Its poor countries that finance the rich countries and NOT the other way around as we like to belive. For every 1 doller we give in so called aid,100 dollers comes back to us in debt repayments of loans that we gave to dictators of these countries.Dictators that we supported and in some cases even installed. The people saw nothing of this money but now have to repay it.Its a myth that we give aid to poor countries.
You are so nice person but I think you got very powerful friends behind your project. because it is impossible without that kind of support to work in chaotic countries like Kenya, Pakistan etc. For ex. Margaret Hassan didnt got protection and her destiny was awful, unfortunately
I really admire Dambrisa's perspective. She wants to hold the elected officials accountable to their populations. Right now Africa is on the brink of amazing developments that we can't deny in West anymore and it looks like all their asking is for us to "back off".
I agree with Dambisa she is a Zambian woman she knows the problems in Zambia and on the African continent. I think it is EASY for foreigners to state they are helping the African continent but it is a form of racism and paternalism. The western world KEEPS the African continent poor. The protectionist policies of the western world and the support African dictators have from western governments is the real problem. The western world wants to keep Africa poor in order to acquire revenue from debts
She's urging, Take out the Aid (Not all but most), force the government to be more innovative, and listen to the people, enact new laws that will provide opportunities for africans to develop themselfs.
Moyo understands Africa, like a Sister her brother, who is always being thought of by the rest as Sikly and Infantish, unable to stand on he's own two feet, always begging to eat the crumbs from the table.
Take away the crumbs, and he will remember he's two feet.
I find it funny how Moyo said at the end that we need to focus more on creating jobs for the people. I was like "you mean by building a net factory, for instance? Employing hundreds of people, especially women? Were you even listening?" Novogratz was trying to agree with her while she was just going "No. I'm right and you're wrong."
And what's with all this crap about "the white lady doesn't know what she's talking about?!" Are you morons just agreeing with Moyo because she's black?
@sugarfoot1001 What that white lady has done for African is more than you will ever do idiot. She lived in poverty in Africa and transformed peoples lives, I am Kenyan and I can testify to that, ask Rwanda people, Tanzania.....
I am sure you are just another speck of dust trying to be noticed for your comments but know the context to understand the story
Clear differences in intellect. One is well informed and the other has no clue whatsoever. Fareeds attention was earned towards the end. The African lady exudes calm and confidence that only a good education can bring you.
Bono is a celebrity and his attention to Africa is not altruistic. It is also offensive because celebrities should not be involved with African economies and foreign policy. It is offensive to Africans that these white liberal celebrities feel they have a right to be involved in African issues.
Re-watching this video, I must say I found it funny at 7:46 where Novogratz starts her lachrymose speech about "all humans being created equal," as if she was suddenly swept up from a debate on the efficacy of aid and catapulted into a Miss Universe contest where such sophomoric platitudes are apt.
All she did was confirm Dr. Moyo's fundamental point about aid being couched in pity and emotion, as opposed to being based on facts, logic and evidence.
Dambisa Moyo absolutely destroyed Jacqueline Novogratz in this debate. And it wasn't even close.
Novogratz's assertion that it is possible to use never-ending flows of aid money efficiently and innovatively is foolhardy, simply because it neglects to heed to the fact that a perennial flow of aid fosters kleptocracy and, most damagingly, intellectual laziness in even the best leaders -- Dr. Moyo addresses it perfectly at 5:28
Frankly, I find Novogratz's comments to be simplistic and sophomoric.
I thought that Ms. Moyo was spot: the aid development model has not been efficacious; no country in the world has developed using long-term aid. However, I am not convinced that aid should be switched off tomorrow.
Jacqueline Novogratz's position, on the other hand, to use government aid and the markets is a very difficult one. I wonder what her motivation is.
On screen, she sounds condescending towards Dambisa. However, Dambisa responded with poise and grace. Way to go!
@BlackTaharqa Complex problems require complex solutions. Moyo is recommending a draconian aid ambargo that would result in the deaths of millions. Novogratz has first hand experience in integrating market-orientated, entrepreneurial solutions that change people's lives. I don't see how anyone could disagree with her. And I don't understand all the hostility.
AIDS was created by the U.S for Genocide. Its given to the Africans through the "vaccinations" that many Africans think is helping them. The Reason the AIDs rate dropped in Africa cause alot of the Africans stop taking the Vaccines cause they no longer trust them. Those so called humanitarian groups are a front for Eugenics. They are murdering Africans and sterilizing them.Indian scientist analyzed one of the needles that they give to Africans and found hormones in them which sterilizes you.
Dambisa got it spot on. Africa has become too dependent on aid to a point where African governments have become lazy and incorporate it in their annual budgets. Most of the Aid is also 'Pity Aid' as its not channeled to productive uses and ends only for consumption. Dambisa clearly points out that Africa needs Aid which is time specific annd will lead to self-sustainability and productivity.
I honestly think that we need to balance what is Aid and not Aid in Africa.
I have been following Dambisa Moyo debates on Dead Aid recently and just need to comment on certain of her ideas. Her recent debate with Jacqueline Novogratz made me think that she hasnt got the Full picture of what is really going on in Africa, or simply she is not expressing them very well.
Novogratz' arguments seemed quite strong at certain times. Though her slightly fake sounding, almost condescending, outreaches weakens her cause.
Both are on the right side of the fence though. It seems to me government aid is more of a valid issue.
Oh and I love Moyos finishing remarks. Especially the part about aid in the end being about pity, and not being the kind of demanding and transparent capital that we need. You can just see Zakaria smiling, the point is so well made.
Dambisa Moyo is correct that the constant flow of never ending aid is counter productive in Africa. If the billions of dollars of money given were so effective, why are billions still given year after year and decade after decade. It is like a merry go round which nobody ever leaves.
And if it is such a good idea to give aid then why the hell is it that africans are begging the west for more money every year instead of reducing their income on aid.

This was manifestly an intellectual mismatch
