Inner workings of the Rare Black Forest Cuckoo and Quail on shared train

i've got a cuckoo clock that belonged to my grandfather. Has a cuckoo and quail movement, threee bellows, gong, cast brass movement held together by nuts. there is no maker's mark anywhere on it, I was wondering how one dates a piece like that
