QUESTION: I want a good pair of headphones (Mainly for GAMING) which is better... the HD600's or the HD595's? OR any other headphones that you may think are better for use mainly for gaming, I want great positional audio, clarity, and bass. Open ear preferred. Thanks :-)
PS: I will be using the ASUS Xonar ST soundcard, has prebuilt amp.
600 are offering wide sound stage, Im not sure if it will fit with gaming, (i had hd515 before) but hd600 are just perfect for music, they are well balanced, also with good bass. Also be aware of noise cancelling, HD600 ofers NONE. (probably for better sound stage)
@sassek hmm, thanks for the reply, I was thinking of going the middle of the road, and getting the HD595's apparently the soundcard I plan on getting should be able to handle the 595's, due to the amp built into it, tho if I do need to get an amp, I was thinking of the Little Dot MK III, what do you think?
HD595 should be fine, also fo reasonable price. I had no prolbem with handling HD515 without amp, they had also 50ohm impedance, and Max. SPL 108dB, 595 got 112dB so they should be even easier to drive without amp. Past last years I've been using them with my diy tube amp, NAD C320BEE, and various snd cards.
Tube amp shoud make music little more comfortable but it's not necessary for non particular people.
btw, tubes are better with smooth music, otherwise take transistor
@sassek cool, thanks for the reply, you sound like you know a fair bit about it, do you have Xfire? if so do you mind adding me incase I have any more questions? not sure if you play games either, but we could do that too :-)
fastz28camaro1981 is my username if you do wanna add me.
@1981z28camaro Dont even consider the HD595. Get the HD598's instead, they sound much better. 598's have a better soundstage than Hd600's, have slightly weaker bass, but have better upper mids, and feel more energetic and engaging. Also, HD600's really do need an amp to make them sound good, while 598's will play ok with your sound-card only. HD600 are slightly better overall (more refined, better bass, more opened), but they cost twice as much.
@1981z28camaro Tbh, you dont have to worry about gaming. Sounds in games are extremely simple to reproduce in comparison to sounds from music, and all the headphones we're talking about here (595, 598, 600) are audiophile open-back headphones. They all have very opened soundstages and sounds feels very 3D, and 598 is the best at that. 598's are basicaly a new model of 595's, but they're much much improved, they're among the 4 best headphones Sennheiser makes. (598, 600, 650, 800)
@1981z28camaro Better soundstage, they feel more open, they have more energy and sound "faster" if you know what i mean (595 were a bit boring). Better bass, better treble, much better mids. More refined, a bit louder. They're better than 595 is every way.
@derbigpr500 well u think i can put beats on gaming btw im only getting them cause im no dj not very picky and well the ones im might get r cheap as hell
@derbigpr500 so what brand should i chose from cause im thinkin denon 2000 cause a dude told me the hd 800 r better for classical music cause of the soundstaging but for rock like a7x he said cause of the bass i should get denons
@illtaketheblame1 How much money do you have to spend for: a) headphones b) DAC c) headphone amplifier.
If you're gonna go for any of the headphones we mentioned so far, you will need a headphone amplifier and DAC (or sound card) , and each of those costs about the same as headphones themselves. Otherwise any headphones will sound like crap.
HD800 is probably the best headphone for classical, but its better than D2000 even for rock. HD800 costs almost 5 times more tho...
@derbigpr500 what about all other brands to listen to avenged sevenfold and tell the highest in headphone that has wat ever i need for that music and is the best for its also
@illtaketheblame1 By the way, if you listen to metal mostly, you must know one thing. Metal music is usually recorded with crappy quality, and the better your headphones are, most flaws you will hear in the music. Metal music production is crap compared to jazz or classical. If you ONLY listen to metal and play games, then I'd suggest you get the Denon D2000 since everything over that price is overkill.
@derbigpr500 i really feel that, for me metal music is just the music i like to play when im at gym with big speakers, or at concerts, but with my new headphones i have really become jazz/blues fan, it makes sex to my ears
@gir1258 I'm not talking about quality of music, I'm talking about quality of recording and how that music sounds. And even the best sounding metal recordings sound like crap compared to quality jazz, rock, instrumental or some vocal recordings.
@derbigpr500 Sorry, I meant to say that many produce quality recordings. It really depends on the sub-genres of metal, though. Many care about getting the highest-quality recording they can.
@derbigpr500 nice, I think I will get it :-) tho I did hear that it's just a fancy version of the 595,(like a special edition version) and they perform identically, they could be wrong tho, what do you think? have you had experience with both?
could someone who thinks themselves as a knowledgable audiophile please answer this: which headphones should i buy, the sennheiser hd600, hd 595 or grado 125i? i listen to a lot of rock, metal and also dance and drum an bass. therefore im looking for something with good punchy bass. plz answer!!!!
Nice entry way into the world of upper class headphones. I have these since they came out a few years back. Also have the HD650 and HD800, the good stuff.
This headphone requires an amp; not shitty DACs that are in Apple products.

@OoohAPurpleTurtle if you are a bass fan go for 650. The 600 is treble heavy and not so bassy. The 650 is bass heavy and treble low.
