bizarre, in every aspect...the sheer skills displayed here IS CRAZY! it#s so out there, it's almost ridicoulous...somebody close my jaw, it's wide open!!!!
Many times over the years, Sheila E never really got the respect she earned. But her band was off the chain. You can't run with prince with prince and not have the goods.
Wooo! That's why I always had respect for Sheila. Of all the girls he forced us to endure, she was worth every minute. She was pretty, cute and silly just like the others but she had seriously noteworthy skills. Not just a drummer. One of the best. That's why she's still killing it in the game and on Tour with Prince in Europe 2day.
There are actually TWO songs performed - Love Bizarre of course, then when Sheila gets on the drums and Karl jumps on timbales they play "Merci For The Speed Of A Mad Clown In Summer".
Baddass musicians! Love this, first time seeing it after being a fan for more than 25! Thanks!
That band was delivering some serious 80's Minneapolis Funk. All talented and peers of Prince at the time, you know, contemporaries. Levi on the bass went on to play with Prince for several years, amazing bass player, Eddie M. was an incredible sax player, some still play with Sheila, like the synth guy, the guitarist rocks, he also has recently played with sheila. On the drums Karl Perazzo who plays with Santana goes on the Timbale's... A-MAZING timbale percussionist! Seen him live, stunning.
@HypeRhymz i saw this guy lip synching on the solid gold clip but i think on this one thats actually him shredding on the guitar and doing a pretty good prince imitation. i can do one too.
I wonder if thats the Escovedo, who fathered Nicole Richie? Just askin'. Best thing about this whole purple movement was that you had great young muscians creating their own lane as far as sound style and fashion hairstyles etc, I grew up out here in the midwest an this shit had errybody crazy white black whoever, it was a huge movement...those are her brothers they all played in her fathers band...
Too funked up !! Incredible prince-style bass playin on this. With a BB2000, bass o' my dreams ! Goes for all bassists who give shit about pick players ahha
I was, and still in love with Sheila E. I seen her in 1984 on Prince & The Revolution World Tour. She is one of the baddest percussionist of all time.
Oh my god! I haven't seen this in 23 yrs!!!! I miss the old school jams and I'm 40 yrs old. The old days in the eighties were fun and safe and full of parties!
oh sfccb69,you are so wrong on this. ask any prince fan. i've seen smith twice with prince, and she is very good.but brownmark always had the funkiest, hardcore bass lines. the only person better than brownmark would be bootsy collins. brownmark has always performed the best with prince,in studio,or live!!!
Hot Damn this is fire..........She had a funky band.I mean the whole place just funky.Go Sheila. They don't make muscians like that no more.WHEW...........I perfected the percussion because of her inspiration. Those were the days.
Thank you so much for this, Sheila, Juan, Eddie, Susie, Karl, Stef, Levi, and Ken are amazing. I also love her second performance of Merci For The Speed Of Mad Clown In Summer.
You kill for this post! These were the early years of my obsession for the super talented performer. I remember the night this aired! Guess I'm telling you my age. Thank you so much for this post. They truly funked this up to the max. The Tonight Show had NEVER had anything this funky on its stage.
