  • Wow! I remember seeing this on TV! how'd u get that? amazing-she was a smokin' amazing talent-that 2nd album that this was from was her best!!!

  • bizarre, in every aspect...the sheer skills displayed here IS CRAZY! it#s so out there, it's almost ridicoulous...somebody close my jaw, it's wide open!!!!

  • whoa! crap picture, stunning performance KOOL!

  • too much cocaine

  • groovin in everyway...shelia e knows how to get it going..

  • groovin in everyway...

  • nice. :)

  • @pinkpostergirl--the hair and outfits went hand and hand with that amazing talent

  • GREAT synchronization...she's indeed the female Prince!

  • MAN THIS SHIT IZ FUCKIN GREAT!!!

  • Amazing

  • I was so close to an orgasm then it finished.... THEN Stevie Ray Vaughan came on for a split second. I spurted.

  • Just heard it recently live with Prince + Sheila. It's still a pretty funky song in 2011!

  • nicole ritchie's aunt

  • @soulburst How?

  • @soulburst many people don't know :)!!!

  • I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!!

  • That's a BAAAAD mama jamma!!

  • Many times over the years, Sheila E never really got the respect she earned. But her band was off the chain. You can't run with prince with prince and not have the goods.

  • This is great stuff. She comes from a well known percussion family. Her father played with Tito Puente and her brother is well known also.

  • Wooo! That's why I always had respect for Sheila. Of all the girls he forced us to endure, she was worth every minute. She was pretty, cute and silly just like the others but she had seriously noteworthy skills. Not just a drummer. One of the best. That's why she's still killing it in the game and on Tour with Prince in Europe 2day.

  • Yes, I remember this performance!!! Thanks for posting!!!

  • Wow. I think I have (or used to have) this on cassette from back when I used to sit in front of the TV w/ my tape recorder. Nice!

  • @justfragvideo I still have the 45'! lol

  • You just don't see stuff like this these days, especially on late night TV shows.

  • Yes they did.

  • My god, they kill that Burbank stage.

There are actually TWO songs performed - Love Bizarre of course, then when Sheila gets on the drums and Karl jumps on timbales they play "Merci For The Speed Of A Mad Clown In Summer".

Baddass musicians! Love this, first time seeing it after being a fan for more than 25! Thanks!

  • That band was delivering some serious 80's Minneapolis Funk. All talented and peers of Prince at the time, you know, contemporaries. Levi on the bass went on to play with Prince for several years, amazing bass player, Eddie M. was an incredible sax player, some still play with Sheila, like the synth guy, the guitarist rocks, he also has recently played with sheila. On the drums Karl Perazzo who plays with Santana goes on the Timbale's... A-MAZING timbale percussionist! Seen him live, stunning.

  • This video makes me feel like a fossil

  • i love sheila e. thanks for the post...

  • Wow music was so great during the 80's!

  • steff burns on the axe

  • OMG she was hot. And talented too.

  • Sheila E. is soooooo sexy.

  • @MrLoglesby I'm wit u on that. i wish i wasn't 14.

  • Just a note. if u listen Prince pre-recorded his vocals for this performance. that dude on the guitar is lip syncing.

  • @HypeRhymz i saw this guy lip synching on the solid gold clip but i think on this one thats actually him shredding on the guitar and doing a pretty good prince imitation. i can do one too.

  • @rosycross pretty cool. you might have to make a video of u doing that.

  • @HypeRhymz meet me at the karaoke club with a handicam and i will 'die 4 u'

  • that getup is tight, why you gotta talk so much smack! Love to see Sheila play percussion, she makes it look so easy.

  • i have a great rare sheila e dvd and also rare prince dvds. message me for details

  • The Escoveto with the glassess IS the father of Nichole. It was said that he and the mother could not afford to raise her and Lionel adopted her.

  • This woman CAN sing...

  • @mzonouzi : You must be hearing something I don't hear..

  • Prince comes to mind everytime I see this .

  • I wonder if thats the Escovedo, who fathered Nicole Richie? Just askin'. Best thing about this whole purple movement was that you had great young muscians creating their own lane as far as sound style and fashion hairstyles etc, I grew up out here in the midwest an this shit had errybody crazy white black whoever, it was a huge movement...those are her brothers they all played in her fathers band...

  • Damn the 80's had nasty fashion!!!..yuck!!!... and think i use to wear that shit!

    lol!

  • forget the fashion. THEY HAD AMAZING TALENT.

    Something we are missing today.

  • Amazing talents. too bad they had to wear those stupid costumes.

  • Levi is playin the SHIT outta that bass!!!!! 2 Funky

  • Great Big Thanks for this post. Funk it up hard - Indeed

  • The 1st songs is Love Bizarre, the 2nd w/Sheila on the drums is called Merci4theSpeedofAMadClownInSummer from the same album

  • Johnny Carson knew all about that love bizarre - no trippin'!

  • Too funked up !! Incredible prince-style bass playin on this. With a BB2000, bass o' my dreams ! Goes for all bassists who give shit about pick players ahha

  • This would be system overload for todays ordiance. The would just explode from musicianship overload. Too much for them. Sheila is bad.

  • HEll yes!!

  • Her sifu Prince taught her that Form! see all of that Prince correography?

  • these are the Best of the Best!!! Amazing!!!

  • the cocaine era, 100 dealers on every corner in harlem...........

  • I was, and still in love with Sheila E. I seen her in 1984 on Prince & The Revolution World Tour. She is one of the baddest percussionist of all time.

  • awesome..........loved this song as a teen in the 80s....used to idoilize shelia e......such memories of a great time x x x

  • Oh my god! I haven't seen this in 23 yrs!!!! I miss the old school jams and I'm 40 yrs old. The old days in the eighties were fun and safe and full of parties!

  • dont stop the funk

  • Mark Brown was bad, no doubt. But nobody beats Larry Graham when he was in the band. Nobody.

  • oh sfccb69,you are so wrong on this. ask any prince fan. i've seen smith twice with prince, and she is very good.but brownmark always had the funkiest, hardcore bass lines. the only person better than brownmark would be bootsy collins. brownmark has always performed the best with prince,in studio,or live!!!

  • A bad woman!

  • no offense darkfunky, but no other band could hang,or even touch the revolution in their prime.

  • levi can never ever touch brownmark!!!!!

  • ahh, but Rhonda Smith puts them both to shame.

  • sheias band was tight. Ok her band kicked ass. They could hang with the revolution. Never saw that before...

  • Is that Levi Seacer Jnr on bass??

  • Juan E's hair always makes me laugh

  • They don't make them anywhere near as good as Sheila E. these days!

  • what's that dance called?

  • Sheila E. > 95 % of the no talent heffer's of today.

  • Hot Damn this is fire..........She had a funky band.I mean the whole place just funky.Go Sheila. They don't make muscians like that no more.WHEW...........I perfected the percussion because of her inspiration. Those were the days.

  • I remember begging my grandmother to let me stay up and watch this. It was a school night. Sheila E. is the bomb!!!

  • Thank you so much for this, Sheila, Juan, Eddie, Susie, Karl, Stef, Levi, and Ken are amazing. I also love her second performance of Merci For The Speed Of Mad Clown In Summer.

  • You kill for this post! These were the early years of my obsession for the super talented performer. I remember the night this aired! Guess I'm telling you my age. Thank you so much for this post. They truly funked this up to the max. The Tonight Show had NEVER had anything this funky on its stage.

  • This is fantastic!

  • This isn't Letterman. It's The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

  • ooops, fixed it.

  • @AmandlaDavis quality is fine with me thanks for the clip
