I don't know how anyone can complain about his chord playing at the beginning. It's a practice that many 19th century pianists would do during concerts or recitals. If anything all it does is demonstrate his unbelievable dynamic control and tone production. I am an aspiring teenage pianist/musician, and if I produce anything half as beautiful as those chords he plays in the beginning I would be very happy. Amazing how he can turn something so boring into something so musical.
It's a musical composition called a RONDO. That you call it a "piece" is meaningless. One could call a sculpture a "piece." One could call a painting a "piece." One could call a Chaucerian Sonnet a "piece." Yet a "piece" is a generic term, applicable to any work. Once again, the composition being played in this video is a RONDO. Got it yet, Mr Hyper-Diaper?
@67goldtops If you want to be pedantic you should probably make sure you've accounted for each technicality. "Piece" or "composition" is correct, though general. "Rondo" and "song" are both subcategories thereof; specific types of composition.
As RONDO is used in the title, my calling it a RONDO is hardly pedantic. Further, If you wish to attempt to interject in conversations of others, perhaps you should first ascertain intent of said dialogue before judging content. My intention was to mock the person I addressed. As for the content of your post, why not add "diddy," "tune," or "jam" to your list? As I already stated, It's a RONDO. That a RONDO can be called other titles does not change that it's a RONDO.
@Fervorum what is allowed and what isn t allowed.... a big question, I don t like personally people who does make bareers with interdictions.... and specially when we have to do with a pianist who creates athmosphere and magic moments, how can you speak in such moments what is allowed and what is not? You missed completely whats going on when Horowitz creates music......
ow what a joy Horowitz have given us.. so happy for me as a 18 years old 'kid' can see those tapes .. from a real master ... he plays Mozart so amazing .... refined in every detail .. and with such an amazing Innocent soul in his music and then those perfect fits to the person him self .. just look at him .. what a most respected man he whas/is ... but still he have that kind innocent look ... ow god he is perfect .. shaped to play those Mozart pieces ... what a god he is

Un pezzo simpatico ma niente di più, non facciamo ora i ciechi (sordi in questo caso) e gridare al capolavoro solo perchè il brano è di mozart. Molto semplice anche tecnicamente
his piani is rigged so he can put no power into pushing the keys and they will still make a clear sound that's why horowitz dosen't use his wrists to play
@AsiankidPRO I just went to Grand Rapids Michigan to play this Piano, that he played. He actually had the keys set for "quick action response" because of his fingers. They had a little bio of the piano and it explained why it flowed so wonderfully. It was amazing to play. It was an experience for sure.
I wonder how the Viennese felt about the Maestro not only not using a Boesendorfer, but using an American Steinway on their stage and not the Hamburg model?
Love mozarts music but get a little bit peed off with the whole cheeky 'childish like mozart' ha ha ha ha HA HA HA! very good. still, the best clip i have ever seen of Horowitz was him playing Schumann's Traumerei in Moscow 1986. The song is deceptively simple, but yet, at the end of the song he shrugs his shoulders as to say "well, that's the best i can do. i hope i didnt mess it up". it shows how much of a child's soul he possessed, pure and simple. that was the greatest piece i have ever heard. people were crying in the audience.
Horowitz was in fact a compelling classicist, an aspect of his playing somewhat under appreciated over the years. To further illustrate this point listen to his 30s recording of the great Haydn E flat sonata.
No tengo el honor de conocerle a usted, personalmente pero deseo comunicarle que esta versión del Rondo que usted interpreta es la mejor de todas las que he oido.
For someone of his age, to make this piece sound like it is being played by the same 20 something year old man that wrote it is utterly increadible. What a feat, and what a gentle and chidlike soul Horrowitz must be to keep that ammount of joy in his fingers. Bravo

He didn't practice this enough. It is quite sloppy as a result. He looks bored to death, as if he can't wait to be done with it. The tragedy is that this is a masterpiece, butchered beyond recognition.

That handkerchief is gross. But he is Horowitz, so it's just fine.
organman52 3 years ago
He may have needed the handkerchief, but it's an infantile troll criticizing the elder genius, so it's just fine.

I think you're absolutely right. I take back everything I said. Horowitz was the greatest pianist, musician, genius ever to grace this planet.

Horowitz was a great pianist, but what about Gould, Argerich, and Rachmanioff? They were great pianists, too!!!!!

Well Mozart was brilljand but not really a pure genius, he lived in the romantic, and everything in that time is excegerated, how ever, he was briljand in composing music !!, and I love this peace, ( and I am not saying that mozart isn't smart, he just wasn't an genius)

He didn't practice this enough. It is quite sloppy as a result. He looks bored to death, as if he can't wait to be done with it. The tragedy is that this is a masterpiece, butchered beyond recognition.
