if you sample and have the right to do so, then you're fine (unoriginal but fine).

if you sample without the right, then you're infringing copyright law.

if you produce something that sounds similar to a hit track, you're unoriginal but a smart businessman at the same time.

it's true that Sanj stole samples without getting the appropriate legal documentation, so he got screwed over (deservedly so).
