The best of the four arrangements of the themes by a LONG way, is this one, Season 2's. New one for each season, oddly. Jerry Goldsmith was furious at how Lalo Schifrin had messed with his tune for this sophomore year, though I am positive he was just jealous that Lalo had done a far better arrangement. Best spy theme tune of them all....for TV that is.
@trdidion Yes. You are correct. Robert Vaughn did star in Bullitt. He portrayed Walter Chalmers, a self-serving politician who attempts to make friends with Frank Bullitt. When the main Mob witness dies during a Mob probe, Chalmers tries to have Lt. Bullitt fired.
This Chalmers character ruined Vaughn's chance to enter politics.
Lat time i saw this show was in the 1980s sometime on my mums rented Phillips TV, i also remember having a UNCLE toy car with man out the side, great cars, lovely theme, always a pleasure.
@GlynisElgey I loved to watch David Mccallum also as i kid on "The Man From Uncle" he played the Russian Agent Illya Kuryakin-what is ironic is that he was not Russian he was scotttish he was born in Glasgow Scotland-either way he was a cool actor
Robert Vaughan is the star of a BBC tv series in the UK, called "Hustle". He plays the leader of a gang of conmen who pull various stunts and rip-offs!
When I was a kid, i wished I was Illya Kuryakin. I would wore a turtleneck shirt to imitate him. I also had the UNCLE P-38 cap pistol that came with accessories--scope, shoulder stock, extended barrel and I think even a bi-pod to turn it into a carbine. It was one awesome toy for a eight year old, I tell you.
Great video! Let’s play a little game If you were able to have your own cult TV channel what 15 series would you select? Mine would be (in no particular order) The Avengers Star Trek (Kirk of course) The Prisoner The Invaders The Man from Uncle Space 1999 Randall & Hopkirk (original) The Saint Blakes 7 The Persuaders UFO (which deserves a remake with new effects please and more alien action) The Outer Limits Sapphire & Steel Red Dwarf And just to be silly – the A Team Yours ?
I am looking for the name of a TV programme or film shown on British TV 1968- 1974 with... A dress in a tall glass case in a rear corner of a Victorian old ladies room or , she is sitting on a chaise lounge in the foreground, and warns a young girl who is admiring the dress, at the back of the room, on the facing left "not to open the case" .
But the girl does when the air rushes inside in a of basic technique of film animation /time frame - the dress dramatically and rapidly falls to pieces
The sixties / seventies INVENTED shows (and everything else that is cool today still)! Since then, everyone else is copying what we developed! Nice to be part of that generation! Star Trek, Wild Wild West, Hawaii 5-O! All In the Family, Jaws, Exorcist, Animal House, Rob & Laura Petrie!! Are you kidding?!?!? Toss in Captain Crunch while you're at it! LOL!!
@179721833 Damn "reality" shows have taken over network TV, but there are some pretty good shows on cable. But there is a lot of crap on network TV!!!
@willardlockejr The reality TV shows suck. The Man from UNCLE was one of my favorite TV shows when I was a kid.Ian Fleming who created James Bond was such a big fan of the show he even wrote some episodes and act as a consultant.
@Isotec1 I still enjoy watching The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Now that was a show that had real actors and real scripts, lots of action and none of the B.S. that you get from watching 'reality' TV, which truly sucks!! That's great to know that Ian Fleming (creator of James Bond) was a fan and that he wrote some episodes and was also a consultant. Thanks for the info because I didn't know that. And sometimes I find myself humming the theme music (lol).
@willardlockejr Unfortunatley, the few good shows get cancelled very quick with bearly a few months or a year of broadcasting, like The Spectacular Spider-Man or Sym-Bionic Titan.
@themetalsonic94 The people that run network TV do not give shows enough time to get an audience, so if doesn't catch on right away, then it will be off the air before you know it. And that's why you can find some pretty good shows on the cable networks. Network TV continues to put out the "reality" B.S. because it's cheaper to produce than to produce a hour-long dramatic series. And that's a shame in inself.
Perhaps my favorite show as a younger teen. My best friend and I would gather to watch it each week, then discuss endlessly! I bought a few of the episodes a few years ago...and they seem some silly now to me; I missed the campiness at 13, I guess. You can't always go back - but it was a great show!
i loved this decade for too: persuaders, man from u.n.c.l.e (my waverley !). the avengers, the protectors..... fun plots, theme toons and good family entertainment.
I had such a crush on David McCallum. I used to say his U.N.C.L.E. name all the time because I loved the way it sounded...Illya Kuryakin. Best decade for TV shows IMO.
I was so nuts about this as a kid, and I saw Robert Vaughn on 57th Street in NYC one day and I nearly had a heart attack! Barely my size, just over five feet. Good thing I didn't see McCallum! A photo of him went on the cover of issue one of my zine, BIKINI GIRL, now in most modern museums. With Sharon Tate! cutecatfaith d com is my website. Thank you so much for this posting, uprated, faved and shared!
@spceman Oh, it was him, I indicated I recognized him and he smiled nicely back. I am just remembering the height incorrectly. My current spouse is about 5'9" and considered "grand" (tall) in France, but to me, he's "little." I also used to wear EXTREMELY high heels in NYC. I had quite a fetish, and did a fair amount of harm to my toes and back for my vanity! But it's true about Bogey and the piano. Vaughn said his favorite thing was eating pasta . . . in Venice! I thought that was great!
@spceman Griffin Dunne is also rather short in stature, rather little. I saw him on the subway and he got off at Prince Street in SoHo, right where AFTER HOURS took place! I followed him a bit and smiled and presented a gold pen and an envelope on which I'd written, "Your name here," with an "x" and a signature line. I still have it! I then waited for the next train. I think he was more careful about stalkers after that, ha ha! Not a word was exchanged except for my "thank you!"
@spceman It's been a trip! I am a character in some books! There are some songs about me! Hee hee hee hee! Yeah, AFTER HOURS, I had to see it several times to "get it," and it was not a "fun" movie, but I loved it. I sort of knew the late Rockets Redglare who was in it. My website is cutecatfaith d com. See ya, I hope!
The 60s and 70s did have the best shows and then, they discovered they could make a shed load more money by forcing cooking shows, and make over shows and house hunting shows and talentless talent shows etc down our throats at a fraction of the cost, and that was that. But, thank god for Jerry Bruckheimer who has revitalised popular cops shows with things like CSI etc.
So -- your opinion, MFU fans: Was Leo G. Carroll's turn as Mr. Waverly inspired in any way by his role as "The Professor" in Hitchcock's masterwork "North by Northwest?"
These were the days 1967, playing being an UNCLE agentas a kid AND Batman with my Duffle Coat done up only at the neck without my arms in like a Bat Cape ! ; Lol i even remember The Girl From Uncle from around that time
Wikipedia says this theme bears a resemblance to Jerry Goldsmith's later more famous score used for Star Trek the motion picture which is more commonly known as the Star Trek TNG theme song
@SueChris381 Well im 14, a rare breed of youth. not the one of the so called 'teen' of my generation. I have a group of freinds who disagree on the modern teen's ethic's and culture. I mean let's face it, in about 5 years no one under the age of 17 will know of the 'classic TV' such as The Prisoner, The Man From U.N.C.L.E, The Professionals, On The Buses and many more great classics.
@AlistairAI Good for you! Nice to hear. Cant beat the old classics. It was a good era the 60's & 70's....in my opinion anyway. My kids are a lots older than you, but do appreciate the old stuff :)
Try watching The Persuaders...fantastic theme tune...have it as my mobile phone ring
@OaGuardian seeing as I just saw an episode where a girl asked what did Ducky look like when he was young and was told Ilya Kuryakin, I would think that they'd go for that idea big time, lol
@ftsjr Agreed The networks put a ton of money and talent into the 60s programs. Great theme songs, good scripts, lots of good locations, westerns and adventure shows. The 70s ushered in the decade of sitcoms, low budget stuff, and TV has never been the same since.
@OaGuardian Yes, that would be funny! They have already done similar gags from other of his shows. On one episode, he came in with a trench coat and hat, exactly like the one from The Invisible Man.
@spideystube On an episode of the British con TV series "Hustle", of which Robert Vaughn is one of the ensemble players, mention was made of a case involving a prospective hits "uncle". A surprised Vaughn reacted: "Uncle!". Slight pause as everybody looked at him then the dislogue continued. :) Thought you'd like to know.
I had a uncle gun it was a gold lugar with scopic silencer clip on stock no 11 badge my mates and i played for hours &hours i was always Illya cause i had blond hair back in 66, and i met david mcCallum in 73 in Ealing when his filming Colditz brought back good memories
Too young to watch the original series but i did read some old Man from uncle magazines and i loved the action packed stories. They could be rivals of the bond films. i finally did watch some episodes of this and was dissapointed . this opening theme also sucks. I wish they would make man from uncle movies as were depicted in the magazines.
Of course you can watch some of these here in full. I got to see them when they first aired. But some of them are really great to watch even today. this was a quality show.
Yeah baby, the Season 2 opening UNCLE theme -- much better than the other seasons. VERY 'cool-jazz & laid-back'. Prime example of the Swinging Sixies!
I, just liked this show The Man from Uncle those guys always killed the bad guy.Now all the bad guys are in the D.C. area.Yes, we need them back to clean up.
@OaGuardian Eh, probably not, movie remakes of the classic retro series tend to fall flat because they loose their charm that they had. Producers put more money into flashy CGI and silly gags rather than focusing on the real strengths of the series that made them so iconic, my best examples being the Thunderbirds remake and the Get Smart movie, the thunderbirds movie was unwatchable an insulting to anything thinking creature. Get Smart, fun, but again when modernized it looses the retro fun.
I had a "Man from Uncle" lunchbox back then ... wonder how much it'd be worth on eBay now? Love this music; the lack of theme song music today is quite telling.
@scottmanduzy lol, I had a camera that turned into a pistol and a radio that turned into a rifle, one of the best things back then was the TV shows wasn't infested with negroes
@shanquilla562 I do not know what that is supposed to mean. I loved the first Cosby show. He was Chet Kincaid early 70's high school gym teacher. Theme by Quincy Jones too cool.
Scottmanduzy, because you've been crying like a pissy little bitch about others exercising their Second Amendment right, you should be locked up for your "Uncle spy gun." Someone as ignorant and irresponsible as you has no business owning any type of gun. You're just the sort who is stupid enough to point it at the wrong people, such as the police, and get yourself shot.
Scottmanduzy, I'm not the one advocating taking away your First Amendment right to cry like a little sissy. You're the one who's all pissed off that we have a Bill of Rights. Try again, idiot.
Same here. I remember getting a small suitcase c/w gun, silencer, screw-on butt, and a badge. I was the top secret agant at school. The invisible ink went down a treat too.
Sounds rather unlikely, but The Man from UNCLE was created by Ian Fleming.

@ftsjr Agreed The networks put a ton of money and talent into the 60s programs. Great theme songs, good scripts, lots of good locations, westerns and adventure shows. The 70s ushered in the decade of sitcoms, low budget stuff, and TV has never been the same since.

@OaGuardian ha ha ha. That would be an awesome idea.
daveibukun 1 year ago
@OaGuardian Yes, that would be funny! They have already done similar gags from other of his shows. On one episode, he came in with a trench coat and hat, exactly like the one from The Invisible Man.
spideystube 1 year ago

MrJakko22 1 year ago
@OaGuardian They did that on the A-Team when Robert Vaughn was on that show. Great Idea you have.
jamdawg 1 year ago
Too young to watch the original series but i did read some old Man from uncle magazines and i loved the action packed stories. They could be rivals of the bond films. i finally did watch some episodes of this and was dissapointed . this opening theme also sucks. I wish they would make man from uncle movies as were depicted in the magazines.
desiguy55 1 year ago
Of course you can watch some of these here in full. I got to see them when they first aired. But some of them are really great to watch even today. this was a quality show.

@OaGuardian wouldn't it also be great if David McCallum made a guest appearance in HUSTLE and have him run into Robert Vaughn? :)

Yeah baby, the Season 2 opening UNCLE theme -- much better than the other seasons. VERY 'cool-jazz & laid-back'. Prime example of the Swinging Sixies!

By far, the best opening theme tune to the Man From U.N.C.L.E. So far all i've come across are the dreadful covers. Thumbs up for this vid

I once saw a multiple choice question, "What did U.N.C.L.E. stand for?" One of the wrong choices was "Under No Circumstances Leave Early"

There is a hilarious reference to that when Dinozo asks what Ducky looked like when he was younger. Gibbs replies.
"Like a young David McCallum."

@scottmanduzy lol, I had a camera that turned into a pistol and a radio that turned into a rifle, one of the best things back then was the TV shows wasn't infested with negroes
shanquilla562 1 year ago
@shanquilla562 I do not know what that is supposed to mean. I loved the first Cosby show. He was Chet Kincaid early 70's high school gym teacher. Theme by Quincy Jones too cool.

@scottmanduzy Did you get the Man From Uncle Spy Briefcase?
prodprod 1 year ago
Scottmanduzy, because you've been crying like a pissy little bitch about others exercising their Second Amendment right, you should be locked up for your "Uncle spy gun." Someone as ignorant and irresponsible as you has no business owning any type of gun. You're just the sort who is stupid enough to point it at the wrong people, such as the police, and get yourself shot.
RadarGuidedVermin 1 year ago
@RadarGuidedVermin well you exercise you 2nd amendment and I will exercise my first as I please Mr. Vermin
