  • Just beautiful music :)) Thank you John Ritter for sharing the music and your beautiful Country :)) xx

  • The best of the best of all his music. This song speaks to me.

  • First time i heard this song i swept away. So much of Fogelberg's music had such a thoughtful and rich quality with a fullness of sound. This is one of my favorites, even among so many quality songs. Thanks for putting it up. So many quality songs he did which never made the airwaves. Depth and feeling do not extend just to hits. This is a great song.

  • Planning a week in Maine this summer, three days in Bar Harbor. Will make a short detour to Deer Isle to pay our respects at the end of Reach Road. Thank you for posting this.

  • One of my favorite songs from Dan. An amazing talent. RIP...

  • When my daughter was little she would hide my Dan Fogelberg tapes because I played them so much. Then when she was married and out of the house, I found my Dan Fogelberg CD in her CD player. His music joined generations, his lyrics are timeless. We later went to see him in concert, he was a special, beautiful soul, I miss him more all the time, Love you Dan! (Kathy)

  • Beautiful thank u but let's face it with a song like that how could you go wrong!

By the way I shared this on Facebook.

  • Had all but forgotten this song....but having heard it again, it brings a lot of memories back. Really a beautiful song that is truly timeless. Thanks DF.

  • This is my favorite song of Dan's, the melody just takes me away, I don't know where and where all my cares fade! I will never get over Dan passing so soon. It'll be 3years soon and still I feel I am missing my best friend.

  • I lived in a Fantasy world in 1981 and DF was my hero. I certainly was not Innocent and I thought that by listening to The Innocent age that I could some how steal the promise land. Death has a way of brining us all down. And I found I never really knew Dan. Did anyone?

    Dan, we miss you...

  • Awesome video, great shots of my home state.........Thank you!!!!!!

  • thank you for putting this together...my cousin patrick was a lobster fisherman who drowned at sea in july 09. Like dan fogelberg, he too left his imprint on our lives. This is really beautiful....thankfully, Patrick's body was brought home by his friend, the sea didnt keep him.

  • :'( I miss Home so much....I was born and raised in Deer Isle. Dan's summer home was just down the road from me in north Deer Isle. :o) Thanks for sharing this.

  • Happy 25th! Good for you! Beautiful photography

  • This song would be a great song for a tribute to Capt. Phil Harris on the Deadliest Catch

  • the man will be remembered for his beautifully crafted music which has the power to move you and believe in greater things. I still love to listen to his music

  • Thinking about Dan today on December 16, 2009. Really miss this creative, brilliant musician!

  • Thank you for sharing. The video is as magnificent as the song. How brilliant a depection of the premise of the song.

  • This is my ultimate favorite tune of all, and thats a hard statement to make..since they are all such good tunes!

  • This song brings tears to my eyes every time. Dan was a poet who thankfully, was also a musician. I will love him always

  • Dan, I miss you so. I still cry when I here your songs. You have left a void in my heart. I will always remember you and your soul touching songs. LOVE YOU!!!!

  • I will always remember Dan Fogelburg.

I went to see his concert twice.

    He was wonderful!

He will be greatly missed. He was a VERY special entertainer.

  • Nice. Just nice. Loved this entire album.

  • Love This Song, Wish I were there!

  • This is my fav Youtube video! OSUFrank, what is the object at 2:30? Thanks for posting:)

  • Thatsjustgr8 This is the fog signal taken at Fort Point Light (5:06) - A River Beacon to aid the growing number of ships navigating the Penobscot between Bangor and Castine, Fort Point Light was built as the first river light in Maine. The light station's fixed white light, a fourth order Fresnel lens with a 250-watt halogen bulb, is 88 feet above sea level and visible for more than 10 miles. The fog signal, a 1200-pound, cast iron bell suspended on a pyramidal tower built in 1890.

  • Thank you for a lovely interpretation of a beautiful song osufrank. The Reach always takes me to Acadia: Sand Beach, Jordan Pond, carriage trails, SouthEast Harbor, Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mtn..... First site on North America to see the sunrise, or so I'm told. Would that every soul were granted the precious gift to touch so many. Thank you for believing in yourself, Dan Fogelberg, and touching so many with your gifted artistry. Just "Missing You." Love.

  • thanks for posting the lovely song and took us to the beautiful honeymoon site!

  • I was thinking about Dan and his music today. A local radio station plays holiday music 24 hours per day until 12/25, so today I heard Same Old Lang Syne, and started to cry. I just can't believe it's been an entire year since Dan had to leave. I've loved Dan's music for thirty years and I'm sad that we all won't be able to hear this incredible musician play and sing into his 80s. Damn prostate cancer! Blessings to Jean, Dan's mom, brothers and family. Dan's music stays eternally young.

  • "The Reach" is one of my favourite Dan Fogelberg songs. I like how the instrumentation recreates the rolling motion made by the sea's waves. It was very sad that he had to pass at such a relatively young age, but his great music will live on.

  • My Scottish ancestors lived on the islands off the west coast of Scotland, and were by neccessity seafarers. Maybe that explains my deep respect, and deep fear of the ocean.

This song has the ocean in it. Sounding like an old sea chanty, it conjures images of cold waves, hard working lobstermen, and days of long ago when men went down to the sea in small, fragile boats.

"Oh Lord; Your ocean is so big--and my boat is so small".

  • Thinking of and missing Dan today and came across this beautiful tribute. Thanks for sharing! :)

  • Ahh yes Beautiful Maine lovely video !I just returned from my cousin's 25th Anniversary celebration in Biddeford . Click on & enjoy !

  • Great video with Dan's classic song. New England is certainly for lovers, and I hope you can celebrate your 75th anniversary in Maine also.

  • Fogelberg was firing on all cylinders when he wrote this one.

  • My Husband and I spent our honeymoon in Bar Harbor too, in 1984 and my Husband also worked in a boatyard on Cranberry Island a few years later. The video brought back memories. Thanks

  • Hey Tina,

Glad you're feeling better about things.

    You like YouTube don't you...

    Your friend...

  • Our sweet Dan,you and The Reach are now as one. The way it should be. You will be forever missed and will always remain in my heart and others. Thank you for the words and music that spoke of love, peace and hope.

  • I was feeling blue today and I came to this spot to hear Dan sing The Reach. Whoops! It made me feel so damned sad. I can't help crying every time I hear Dan's voice. Dan had a beautiful voice. Thanks to the roll of the dice in life, his parents created Dan with that talent and voice and then Dan had what it takes to develophis talent into art that he shared with us all. It used to make me feel better to hear Dan. Maybe in time, I'll be less sad about his passing. Bless him! Hope he knew...

  • I was with a rare friend today, and we were discussing the pettiness that seems so rampant. Who searches their soul continuously anymore and reaches out to touch you? When you feel like no one does, play his music and you know you are not alone. What a legacy to leave. you should be proud. And don't quit searching. I feel surrounded by ?!!?

  • I never understood before

    We didnt comprehend his lifetime

It was like seeing it all happen in timeless motion

He was on loan to us all

Came and when and left us searching

for the questions in our lives

Before we knew he was ageless, and timeless

The song he did not write words to

leaving us all with so much painful wisdom

Your journey was pure and nothing less than sweet. p.f.

  • We are all on loans from god.Time can be a double edge sword. Time is a gift that most take for granted and within that time we must learn to use wisely, because it can end so quickly. Dan lived many life times over and much more than most will ever do while on this earth.I believe with all my being, he was on this earth for a reason!I am truly saddened for everyone that knew him personally.I feel that god takes the good ones and leave the rest of us to wonder! I wrestle with that every day.

  • Peter, Dan's passing has thrown me off balance and brought me such grief and I only knew him through his music. He was special and connected with human hearts and souls. I can only imagine how you must feel and how profound the loss is to your family. Dan's music helped me survive pain. After reading Jean's account of Dan's bday I wept. It was gracious of her to share with fans the private, profound, eternal melding of Dan with his beloved Reach. He's immortal. Love, hugs across time and space.

  • When it seems like our grief is to much to bear and our sorrow is far to deep, family often comes to read the cards, letters, email and posting to lift our spirits. It feels like we smell no more flowers, hear no more song birds, and see no more sun rises and sets. We all have his words, his wishes and the songs he left behind. Papa hold him in your arms, he loved you more than you knew.

    looking down.

    p.f.

  • I lost a brother, my mentor and best friend. It was 25 years ago. If you can erase the could haves, should haves' would haves, you will reach a place where you just plain miss him. And its OK to cry. I still get mad at him too, for leaving me with this mess. It will get better with yime, bur you all need to talk it out, so please do, we are listening. I think Dan's music is based on that, and I bet it runs in the family.

  • @wwwerd1 Beautifully said, my friend. Forever Dan will be the minstrel and father of beautiful, simple melody and lyric. Miss you Dan!!

  • Once in every life time, someone comes along that you feel you have known for ever and a day, someone that understands all within your soul, someone that no words expressed say everything. How, how can I ever thank you for these words. Dan you had this gift. looking down, allowing my tears to drip off my chin

    brother Peter

  • Very eloquent, Peter...Sorely missing Dan today

  • Yes...and the tears are dripping of my cheeks! I hope Dan knew how much we cared about him and loved his music.

  • There are a few things (beings) we encounter in our lifefime (if we are lucky) that are marvolous to behold. Dan's one of them. And I understand lately that he had a Maine coon cat' well, I recently have one that has taught me alot about love. And I am a 52 year old cat lover. MY POINT IS; LOVE. Dan is a talent that I know will ever be appreciated, but you were very lucky to know him. Peace and love to your family

  • Dan loved the mountains of colorado and the ocean. What a perfect harmonious thought..

    what an amazing song!

    I miss him too

    Vee

  • My favorite Fogelberg song.

  • I will take from the reach, all that she has to teach to the depths of my soul. This song stirs up my emotions so much. Especially the ending where there is just music. I get choked up. I feel this song from the depths of my soul. Thanks for posting The Reach by Dan Fogelberg. Much appreciated.

  • Thanks for posting. Thanks Dan for writing a nice song about Maine. Miss you and your music.

  • Oh, how I love that beautiful voice! I miss him so much! Just so wonderous.

  • Beautiful! Thank you! And congratulations on your 25th anniversary! :)

  • such gorgeous photos to put with perhaps one of Dan Fogelberg's most pictoral songs. thanks! Every time I heard this song, I always pictured images like this, but now I can actually see them....lol. Wonderful!

  • very nice...and congratulations on your 25+ years together...Maine is a beautiful piece of the planet....peaceful..........RIP Dan...

  • Nice video. I love Maine and Dan Fogelberg's music. Well put together. Thanks.

  • Dan Fogelberg was a brilliant musician, songwriter, and singer. It's so sad to think of his ship The Minstral without its captain. Dan put his all into his music and art. When performing, we gave 110% like an athlete. I bet being on the sea in his ship was a great mental getaway for Dan...to get away from life and from thinking about everything.

  • I love it!!!! :)
