I see dwarfism more as a possible adaptation of the species, rather than a disorder. Smaller bodies require less food to fuel, ergo, if food became scarce, they would be at the advantage.
Granted right now, food is in over supply for the developed countries, but they are still human, they just have slight variations in their genetics. We don't consider abnormally tall people to have a disorder, they play sports and get paid excessive amounts of money for it.
@rufusangus22 no your actually quite wrong about the amount of food we can eat, with achontraplasia dwarfism its only your limbs that get smaller, not the body, and our foreheads enlarge aswell.
@Littlelew24k8 Shorter limbs is a definite advantage in cold climates; It takes far less calories to heat the limbs and the blood has less distance to travel before it returns to the torso, meaning more heat is retained in the center of your body. This might seem insignificant but in evolutionary terms, saving even a tiny amount of calories heating your body can save you from death in extreme situations. Of course now, its inconsequential, but under specific condition it would be a useful trait.

@dubravajecentar to people with dwarfism dont automatically have a child with dwarfism there is a chance they can have a normal size child fact!!!...and if they do decided to have a family that child wont be messed up.. they can be as normal in health and mind as any other average height person... seems to me you need to get your facts straight before you right rude comments..

Are there any two people who have perfect DNA? I suffer from OCD, social anxiety disorder and depression. My parents come from families of people with mental illnesses. Does that mean mentally ill people shouldn't have children? I notice that the people with dwarfism in this video enjoy life. I wish I could say that I felt the same, especially because I don't have any serious physical medical conditions. But I'm depressed and don't enjoy life, so should I blame that on my parents?

"Midget" is a perfectly honorable word. "Dwarf" rolls off my tongue better though.
Acknowledging a dwarf more than normal size folks make perfect sense to me (its a rare sight).But If their being shouted at and insulted on a regular basis I can understand their frustration....
Dwarfs are funny! I say they should capitalise on it!

I see dwarfism more as a possible adaptation of the species, rather than a disorder. Smaller bodies require less food to fuel, ergo, if food became scarce, they would be at the advantage.
Granted right now, food is in over supply for the developed countries, but they are still human, they just have slight variations in their genetics. We don't consider abnormally tall people to have a disorder, they play sports and get paid excessive amounts of money for it.

@Littlelew24k8 Shorter limbs is a definite advantage in cold climates; It takes far less calories to heat the limbs and the blood has less distance to travel before it returns to the torso, meaning more heat is retained in the center of your body. This might seem insignificant but in evolutionary terms, saving even a tiny amount of calories heating your body can save you from death in extreme situations. Of course now, its inconsequential, but under specific condition it would be a useful trait.

This is really interesting to me! I try to always be respectful towards everyone, but have always referred to people with dwarfism as midgets. I had no idea it was offensive! Now that I know the term can be hurtful will avoid saying it at all costs. :)
