  • I finally found the "Lime" version :)

  • This is one of their most underrated songs.

  • Such musical greatness that one doesn't need a lightshow

  • ME ENCANTA!!!!!

  • Ian is just such a mesmerizing performer, god I wish i was alive to see em play :(

  • WISPRWORLD/YOUTUBE MYSPACE/WISPRWORLD

  • wow…interpol

  • Grand-mal.

  • Some of the melodic gestures in the solo guitar parts Sumner plays here sound like they re-appear in Transmission

  • ian is alive.

  • 0:46 epic move

  • way ahead of their time

  • It's from the 1982 video called "Here are the young men", from a show at the Manchester Apollo in October 1979. "Walked in Line" is a great song, but it caused some trouble for the band. Some thought it reflected extreme right-wing sympathies, whereas it actually was about activities at the time of EAST GERMAN advisors in Africa - though it is equally applicable to all corporate and military apparatchiks, who only follow orders.

  • We wanted lime, we wanted lime, we wanted lime, we wanted lime.

  • haha thats what the real members sang in the pub!!

  • @garysteel1984 some ppl have no sense of humour or do not understand the art of parodies.

btw, JD fans are too sensitive for their own good

  • I've been an avid JD fan since 1980 and I didn't think "We wanted lime' was an insult. Kinda' funny, actually.

    People need to lighten up.

  • @TidesWillTurn true, especially the ppl that gave garysteel and me the thumbs down.

  • brilliant track, the drumming, at half way point, is like military style, obviously perfect for the song

  • Oh YeAh.. Son UnOs DiOsEs¡¡¡¡ LaRgA ViDA JoY dIvIsIÓn¡¡¡¡

  • Joy Division is a life time addiction!!!

  • ive never seen this clip before!!!! totally rare - and joy division in pure raw form. one of the greatest bands of our time - joy division. thanks so much for posting the vid :)

  • he worked for disabled people he was there voice for a moment helped them get their money from the govt. couldnt have be en that bad of a chap

  • wow, this is fn rare!

  • is this from Still?

  • the lyrics always miss the part after "They carried pictures of their wives, And numbered tags to prove their lives,.."

  • I believe it goes: they made it through the whole machine with dirty hearts and hands washed clean. Long live Joy Division/ Long live art

  • I'm gonna sound like an asshole poseur for saying this, but I never really thought much of JD until I saw Control.

  • Control totally missed what Ian and JD were about. It focus too much on Debbie and not there headspace

  • it's just because the movie is based on debbie's book "touching from a distance"

  • Wish it was 1979/80 again

  • I feel myself slowly becoming addicted to this band...

  • Join the club

  • same here its all iv been listening to lately

  • when i first heard them... I was addicted. lol I wish i could draw out the Joy Division followed by my anti drug. lol

  • empathy brother empathy!!

  • No!

  • What a powerful song! AMAZING!!

  • Ian's dancing is on point in this vid. POW!!

  • brilliance on a stick

  • damn look at Ian dance guys....wow

  • @Britannia53 yep epileptic dance rocks man!!!

  • They wanted lime!

  • Comment removed

  • @floralpattern1 I am terribly sorry, blame the guy that wrote the introduction for the fancy edition of Still.

  • they walked in line they walked in line they walked in nine..teen seven..ty nine!!

  • This is not a tribute, I guess you make the song what you want but on joy divisions side its not a tribute, if this song is a tribute then I'm sure the name "joy division" is a tribute as well....if you knew what joy division was you would know better. Look it up.

  • i love the bass on this bands style, so coool

  • drumming is brilliant also

  • I like this video because it's true to the times. Not perfect sound quality. Awkward video. Yeah, that's real. 1979.

  • Hes a great dancer~! :)

  • It's a shame that the vid is out of sync with the sound, though... :-(

  • its the youtube upload process that has distorted it :(

  • it happens very often :(

  • THAT'S where William Hung got his moves!!!

I kid :) Joy Division rules!

  • Brilliant band ,brilliant song, brilliant performance.

    Thanks for uploading this!

  • why are they so fucking good? cause they are so fucking real.

  • was peter hook really an a**hole like he was depicted in control? that's a shame, i can't believe that if it's true.

  • I didn't think he was an arsehole in Control. I call that having a character.

  • not but apparently hes an arsehole in real life:-)

  • I can't rely on the "apparently". I won't judge until I see some more evidence.

  • is word of mouth not good enough??

  • Word of mouth can be distorted at the end of the reception.

  • unique sound

  • Thank you for uploading this.

  • Jooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Divisioooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • tears

  • wow, i cant believe there is a live video of Walked In Line

  • I haven't watched Control yet, but i really hope they include his way of dancing that it seems he does in most performances...

  • control is out on DVD on the 11th of Feb :)

  • that is your opinion... did you ever see joy division, did you ever meet deborah curtis? i did both...

  • why do i have to meet him to understand that the film doesn't show ian curtis full character and phcological state, i've read the book by mrs curtis and noticed the film made omittions like his slight racism. a brave film would have put that in. Control is ian Curtis for the main stream media. and just because u met him doesn'y make you the top authority on all things ian curtis. bareing in mind i'm a big curtis fan

  • he was actully haveing a spazzum, no joke.

  • Nothing sick about the song at all, it just documents the whole allure and mystique of the nihilisim of war, the power and appeal of the thing that makes men 'walk in line'.

The same nihilism that kind of fuelled the whole punk attitude to music and life albeit without the bloodshed.

There's something tragic and inevitable to it really, in the same way that most Joy Division songs are.

  • Well said, CBeans

  • yea well said

  • ians songs are sooo deep

his lyrics are amazing you just dont hear songs like these anymore

  • MAN, i wish i were around at the time to get to a JD concert. Ian Curtis was incredible. now all thats left documenting his life musically is a couple of poor quality videos, and some of the best music ever created. (in my opinion) hey, life fast die young ;)

  • enorme. merci.

  • This is one of the roots of the mistaken belief that JD were Nazi sympathesisers. It's also on Still, the semi-live album released the year after Ian's tragic death.

    "Walk in silence..."

  • The good old days. (read: memories)

  • Ah fuck man I think I nearly creamed myself.

  • fucking aweosme

  • This is such a sick song, They Walked in Line!

  • check out drunk injuns cover off this its pretty awesome

  • Go fuck yourself.

  • So stripped down! To bad we'll never see it again. RIP Ian

  • proper music

  • bliss rock
