Gorgeous horse, but you leave too far forward, and the horse has no impulsion. Those extra reins are used for getting a horse in an outline (usually) and to build up the muscles on the topline. However if the rider is not getting the horse in an outline, the horse just gets heavy in front, like it is now. The draw reins are useless otherwise, and actually make the horse worse.
i thought it was a really good ride :) hey everyone that just HAD to tell her evrything she was doing wrong, please keep it to yourself unless she wants it, but it doesnt say anything about wanting feed back!
amylovesdressage is a bitch. This is a 13 year old on a 5 year old off the track Thoroughbred. Yeah she's going to have some issues with the horses head.
@vamoose05 , take some tips from pasofinofreak and learn to reply in a manner that does not use abusive language. paso explained that draw reins are used (it was difficult to see this from the video) and considering the horses age and history the rider is not relying on these and doing well by not letting the horse become behind the bit. an explaination as to what is happening rather than foul language is much more constructive!
@vamoose05 Think twice before typing wrong facts like these..Off track thoroughbreds are hotblooded and bold they need experienced riders and time for their soul to be in peace. And if you find the proper trainning program adjusted to horse's needs, you can turn them in hunter/show jumpers and eventers. If you check XC horses you ll find many OTTB competing. They have incredible stamina and speed.A 13 yo riding an OTTB is great, riding green always gets you better and better.
@vamoose05 I have nothing in personal with you, I liked ur horse & video, but do not crit if you don't have the right facts about ottbs! They are amazing horses/heroes! Handling stress like racing and perfomance at their best every time. They are very clever horses and most of them are fearless!!!!
you have a bit too much movement in your arms when you canter and your feet need to be a little bit furthur back but abouve all your a great rider! x :D
those are draw reins to encourage him to round out. i dont use draw reins though because as soon as you take them off, their head is back up. i like a german martingale because they help the horse build muscle along their crest so they are able to carry themselves properly.
@pasofinofreak , thank you for pointing out the rider was using draw reins rather than side reins. i don't like them either as in non expert hands the horse becomes heavy in front, but seeing this horse is older and used to racing i can see why they were used, thank you
Really skinny horse

shame to see side reins used, means the rider is unable to learn how to ride a frame, the head is instead pulled in...
