The cuckoos use the famous Regula movements from the Black Forest in Germany.
This action is not 'winding' the clock, but setting it. The best way to set these clocks is to move the minute hand counterclockwise. All of our clocks have a quality modern German movement which allows for easy backwards setting. If you turn the hands clockwise, you would have to stop at every half-hour and let it finish cuckooing.

Are these Sternreiter cuckoo clocks made in the Black Forest? I thought that their alarm clock was made in Serbia.
