  • This video reminds me of watching a video in High School! Haha! ;)

  • which pixel is the vinyl!

  • I love vinyl, but i hate people who are pretentious about it and say "cds and mp3 have no soul" or some shit like this. It's still technology, just older.

  • 240p we meet again.

  • @SexualFruiit hahaha nice

  • Actually to whoever mentioned it 10" Justin Bieber clear pressed Vinyl is around in record stores..

  • what is a laquer?

  • It seems like going to a lot of trouble to improve sound quality a little bit. But that's what audiophiles do.

  • They're called RECORDS! They are MADE out of PLASTIC...VINYL is what ur car seat upholstery is...

  • Incorrect.

  • @seatboi Polyvinyl chloride aka plastic.

  • the reason why vinyl is better than cd and mp3,s in manny way's is becouse, vynil has a dinamic range of 76 khz and stores the sound in original vorm, but cd,s only has a dinamic range of 44,1 khz and mp3,s has cutt off inaudible frequencies.

it,s possible that the master record was digital but then later recorded in annalogue on lp,and that master record is of much hicher quality then cd,s offcourse.

so it,s no excuse to say annalogue is better then digital!!!

  • @johneymute

yes, but you always inherently get vinyl crackle and noise. CD's are far cleaner!

  • @Davoravo86 You don't get any crackle or noise on a half decent player on new vinyl. Analogue will always be better than digital because it's an exact reproduction of sound in a sine wave. The sound is reproduced by vibrations made by the sound. Digital is merely a digital wave, which means it takes X&Y axis points from the analogue wave, to produce a numerical value. The higher the sample rate, the better it is, but digital will never reproduce a perfect sine wave in it's natural form.

  • @repeatedjellyfish Sort of off topic, but same thing with photography. I sure hope film gets a comeback... it's sharper, and more rewarding to know a shot came out perfectly.

  • @AETrainingDavid97 Oh and the smell of the dev liquid floating in the tanks, the stop, and the fix, awesome. I still love my emulsion camera.

  • @repeatedjellyfish It is just a lovely thing all around. :)

  • @johneymute

Dynamic range (softest/loudest volume) and bitrate (khz) have nothing to do with eachother. In case of vinyl you can't actually speak of bitrate because it's analog. Dynamic range of a vinyl is much smaller than CD or mp3. I also think vinyl sounds better because of it's warmth, but that's a personal taste.

  • 03:51 - track id please! :)

  • @pawelek15467

sounds liek armen van helden or funkstar de luxe

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nothing like having a record you can touch, knowing about the record itself and putting it on the turntable and listning to whats in the grooves.

  • :) aloominyum disks lol

  • Just dont put lady gaga on it!!!

  • @killllshot Good one, let's hope vinyl remain gaga free.

  • @repeatedjellyfish Sadly, when I went to the record store, I actually found some albums of hers on vinyl.

  • I'm surprised that the master they use for pressing is so flimsy. It looks like it would tear or wear out fast, but I guess not.

  • I'm surprised that the master they use for pressing is so flimsy. It looks like it would tear or wear out fast, but I guess not.

  • Modern way of creating a analog vinyl disc from of digitaly recorded, or stored, music makes no sense. Vinyl discs of the past deliver infinite definition since it's analog recorded all the way from the microphone or instrument to the record. Modern vinyl makes no sense..

  • @jonnebana - A very small % of new recordings are analogue all the way. Most non dance digital recordings are recorded & mastered for vinyl at 192K/24bit. Dance music can be a lot lower res than this. When playing vinyl from these 192/24 masters, they don't sound as good as analogue, but sound far superior than CD. It does sort of make sense when you listen, but analogue all the way is still the best for recording real instruments. Digital is fine for synths/electronic drums/pads...etc.

  • That is a good way to put it. Some people say that one thing is the best just because it's the latest in tech advance. 192K 24bit is alright quality if you ask me. Most people listen to MP3 and think it's good. It's a matter of personal prefference. But modern vinyl is not as good as the old ones. It not just that it's analogue. It has something to it that's not meassurable. The thing for me is how wowed can I get from what I hear.

  • I know what you mean. I have plenty of very old vinyl (50s/60s) that still sound excellent today. Old style recordings were not as production perfect as studios aim for in todays recordings. A bit more natural & not as processed. Jack White's label/studio/venue is analogue all the way. He loves his analogue sound. Old equipment (mics, desks..etc) too so you get the sound of those older recordings. Dead Weather on vinyl sounds excellent. Using older equipment does make a more natural sound.

  • In the end I would prefer bad soundquality and good artist and not the other way around. Like Dylans stuff doessen't always bring you the hi-fi experiance. But it's one of the riches musical experiences ever nonetheless. Nowadays most music is just crap so a format like MP3 might be good enough then.

  • I wont buy stuff just for the sound either. I have to listen to so much bilge before I buy something I like. And your right, too much crap nowadays.

  • @jonnebanan I agree 100%. I recently bought some new vinyl (but old recordings) and was disappointed with the sound quality. I never knew that modern record cutting machines used digital sound as there input signal. But this certainly explains it. Because listening to these records I had the feeling that they sounded somewhat "digital" even though I knew the original master recordings were made analog.

So to get real analog sound I should just try to get good quality old pressings again.

  • so... all artists have at least one silver record...

  • Pretty Cool Stuff

  • They used to make the master from shellac, interesting to see the newer method with a laquered alloy disc.

  • @silver760 it's called Direct Metal Mastering (DMM), it produces higher quality stampers without having to go through the Mother -> Father -> Stamper process and reduces production time & cost. :)

  • @silver760 Now that's just ignorant. If you hear mud and distortion from vinyl, then you're probably either listening to something that was recorded that way, pressed badly, not taken care of or your stereo system is terrible. Vinyl has a lot more warmth and depth than any music format I can think of.

  • @silver760

You are ignorant to this subject and are showing your ignorance with this comment. Vinyl is far superior in sound quality to a CD or any digital format.

  • amazing :D

  • The way the this voiceover guy says "It" lol :-p

  • 1 0 0 - Thousand kg of pressure ? OMG!!!

  • Awesome!

Vinyls are the best! Fitting music on analog disc is an art, it's fun to watch how a vinyl is made, and vinyls have much better sound qualtiy than mp3 and CD.

  • @MiracleKD18 False.

  • @MiracleKD18 If it is sound preference that you are referring to, then yes some people prefer the "sound" of vinyl (just as some people prefer the sound of tubes). But the "sound" that is usually heard from vinyl and tubes is coloration. While it may be pleasant to listen to, it is certainly not as accurate. The average vinyl recording doesn't have the accuracy of the average mp3 (let alone CD) recording. And even if it did, the average stylus can't compete with the average CD laser pickup.

  • @100PercentGreen Say that to my M44-7

  • Good old times :)

    03:51 ..I like it :D

  • actually, older vinyls weren't made using digital means (no mp3's etc.) maybe that has the "warmer" sound

  • Which year do you think was the best in vinyl production? I think 1973...

  • Wow, why can't they just use the British version in the US. This voice is so much nicer.

  • im glad they use the british voice in israel :)

  • hahaa wow realy:O RECYCLE!

  • lol what does the American one sound like? :P

  • @KefkaticFanatic Men have deep voices, not girly ones like this narrator.

  • @KefkaticFanatic Hell ya! the us sounds like a robot.

  • Full-stop after a statement, please. E.G, "how a vinyl is made."

    Thanks.

  • how much can i get a record player for these days?

    range from cheapest please!

  • You can get a record player, that also plays cd's, cassetes, and has an ipod input for just a little over 80 bucks at target.

  • thanks but I live in Canada

and we don't have Targer lol

although my friend goes to school in Washington state...maybe I'll get one when I visit him

    Thanks!

  • That may be true, but they don't make record players like they used to.

  • with new technologies it can only be better...

  • this isn't the same show aired in the US, is it? i mean he guys has an accent

  • It's the British version!!

  • I have uploaded many hi-quality vinyl recordings of popular rock and pop bands. Click my username to hear them . Make sure you watch them in 'hi-quality' so you can fully appreciate how great vinyl can sound!

  • Morasch (another user name) has a great collection of popular songs. And his turntable has been pimped out so the sound couldn't get any better! And it's a 1979 model. And he said the cartridge alone is over $1000.

  • We'd make great pets.

  • the human is so smart

  • Its amazing how much longer it takes to make a vinyl compared to a CD. But yeah there's a lovely presence to the sound on vinyl that you just cant get on a CD. That and the feel and smell of vinyl makes them something that just feels more special.

  • thats amazing to see :P

  • Do some research 'DUDE' the English language (as borrowed by YOU) has been around for many more centuries than your country. which by the way, if we didn't occupy that country they you wouldn't have it now. Remember that whenever you speak you are using ENGLISH not American. Don't criticise how someone speaks if you are using their language, just because we are more articulate in our pronunciation than you doesn't mean that you have a say in how it should sound. hope your not perplexed now

  • its a correct word. just because americans say it differently doesnt mean that they are right....

  • I know your post is a year old or so, but I must say something.

"Aluminum" and "aluminium" are both accepted spellings and pronunciations of the word; just that one is used in North America (United States and Canada) and the other is used in Europe.

In summary, neither is wrong and it would be erroneous to suggest otherwise.

  • Its fascinating never knew there was so much to it ive always preffered vinyl anyway most of the best classic dance tunes are on vinyl which you cant get on CD

  • now i know-)

  • I can just imagine Karl Marx writing about this process.

  • cool video!!!

  • I prefer the UK version :).

  • me too

  • Thanks!...

  • same

  • this is the best show on TV!

  • cool

  • ha ez megvan valakinek magyarul, legyen már olyan jó, hogy közzéteszi... thx ;)

  • this show is sweet!!!!!!;)

  • tru dat

  • YES love shows like this eat here hors on end lol watch how things are made lol

  • Same footage just diff narrator. Seems like a waste of time to dub in another host lol.

  • i only watched this cause i just found out the narrator is Mike barnes from Hollyoaks, my dad watches this all the time

  • I love "How it's made"! Great episode, but bad quality =/

  • now i knw why vinyls are expensive lol

  • And now you know why digital DJs are scum. Get quick glory for no work. Down with digital djing!

  • Get off the computer if you don't like new technology.

  • It's not a question of new technology. Technology has nothing to do with it because frankly vinyl is superior because the vinyl "system" allow for DJs to read the music easily where the best computer software sucks at this totally!

Its a question of respect. Digital DJs have no respect for where things came from and that is why they have no future.

  • So the original 'cut' record is an acitate? I have several of these...very heavy, metal insides!

  • heh, I've just heard the American version, now for the British version :-)

  • This is soooo great! The moment of birth :)

Thank you so much for posting this!

Too bad they only showed the old school method and not the Direct Metall Mastering (DMM) procedure. But it's ok!

  • Very good video! 5stars

  • Good video...
