@fwwaller I have a little bit of filmmaking experience myself. I can tell you, no bullshit, the average AVGN video can cost hundreds of dollars to make. The rare games cost hundreds alone in many cases. The "A Nightmare on Elm Street" NES game for example usually runs $300-$500. There's also the bandwidth, equipment, editing time, software, (which needs to be updated rather frequently) etc.

Also regarding the points you made in this video. I don't see how Archfiend crossed the line. Two things are clear: James has an exceptionally good revenue stream and the promise of doing a movie and asking for money is typical of ebegging operations. The only saving grace is that James has a history of making films.
Also, I doubt he has a team work on "html codes". He's using a content management system called WordPress; that does most of the work for them.

Typically it's something like a new webcam or computer to help with quality, or video games for them to review on their channel. People act like this is something that is obvious; however, I've been subscribed to people who I had some respect, who regularly do this. I also know lesser known reviewers who don't resort to this tactic in order to get funds for their works.
Watching this video was one of the few instances where I thought positively on youtube's old policy of having only ten minutes or less. It really shouldn't take you 4 minutes to _begin_ making your point. In this case the audience is less likely to know who you are.

@fwwaller I have a little bit of filmmaking experience myself. I can tell you, no bullshit, the average AVGN video can cost hundreds of dollars to make. The rare games cost hundreds alone in many cases. The "A Nightmare on Elm Street" NES game for example usually runs $300-$500. There's also the bandwidth, equipment, editing time, software, (which needs to be updated rather frequently) etc.

@fwwaller Funny, I tend to agree a little bit with that other guy. From a constructive-criticism point of view, you might want to try the following:
1 - Get over being nervous. You sound nervous, and it leads to some stuttering.
2 - Do what the big youtube people do: Record the video in small parts and then edit them back together. That way you can edit the bad parts.
3 - Use cue cards when needed or notes, and when combined with #2, it makes it much better when you edit your video.

Archfiend makes a lot of assumptions but doesn't actually know any facts. He DOES NOT know what James earns in any way. Arch GUESSES. The fact of the matter is that James is an indy film maker. He does not have the support of any film company like Warner Bros or whoever. He's trying to make a feature film on his own, and the only way to make it happen is to ask for fan support. James has not held a gun to anyones head asking for money, he simply asked. And it's the fans choice to donate.

Also regarding the points you made in this video. I don't see how Archfiend crossed the line. Two things are clear: James has an exceptionally good revenue stream and the promise of doing a movie and asking for money is typical of ebegging operations. The only saving grace is that James has a history of making films.
Also, I doubt he has a team work on "html codes". He's using a content management system called WordPress; that does most of the work for them.

There's plenty of reviewers who do similar things as James, and they don't upload videos asking for donations to go directly into their films: Brad Jones, Ed Glaser, and Doug Walker to name a few.

@fwwaller I probably should have elaborated a little with my post. A lot of ebeggers ask for things that seem mild and modest. Typically it's something like a new webcam or computer to help with quality, or video games for them to review on their channel. People act like this is something that is obvious; however, I've been subscribed to people who I had some respect, who regularly do this. I also know lesser known reviewers who don't resort to this tactic in order to get funds for their works.
