@frankyagernull actually, Nintendo once stated they try to refrain from using characters from their anime, such a Pokemon. Ash ketchum was going to be in it but Sakurai stated only game characters hence Trainer Red being in Brawl. Anime characters would not qualify, as Nintendo is a separate company that only gives Nintendo characters in their games. Snake was an exception since Sakurai wanted him. To put anime characters in a game that is strictly for game characters would be illogical given

@Cimmantti wait a sec. Matthew and isaac are both adults, and isaac i know is more of an adult than matt by golden sun 3. i havent played golden sun 3 but Isaac started his adventure at 16 but he later in the game is 17. they could add both of those characters evenly if they wanted.
@frankyagernull the fact that they would go through a shit load of copy right infringements as well as then have to ask permission from the creators of that show, which would be too time consuming. The only other characters I can see partaking in the new SSB would be Square Enix since they have a long time relationship with Nintendo, but that's as far as I will go. Do the research. Sakurai stated no anime characters, if they wanted them, they would have put them in years ago.

Smash is a game to showcase Nintendo characters and characters from companies tied to Nintendo. It's not a popularity contest. Anime characters make no sense in this context; Marth didn't start as an anime, I don't know where you got that idea. He was a video game character you had an unsuccessful OVA made of one of his game plots. This is a Nintendo game. You wouldn't put a popular anime character in Marvel vs. Capcom; you put Marvel and Capcom characters.

The first two Metal Gear games were on Nintendo consoles, and there are remakes of MGS on the Gamecube and a remake of MGS3 coming to the 3DS. Therefore, tied to Nintendo. Plus, Konami is a closely tied company to Nintendo. The art style does not change the fact that Marth started on video games. Naruto did not. Saying the drawing style makes them the same is just BS. And SSB is Nintendo only, unlike MVC. It's entire pitch was to showcase Nintendo All-stars.

Snake represents Konami, a company which is tied to Nintendo through a number of large successes over the years, such as Metal Gear and the Castlevania series.The Fire Emblem anime came out in 1996; the game came out in 1990.A similar art style does not make a game or TV show the same thing. That's false. Namco-Bandai is involved in Ultimate Ninja and Uzumaki Chronicles, but are not involved in the other series and do not own the rights to Naruto as an IP. The first MG was rated in the top 200 NES games, and the success of the series itself is what's important. And as I said, Smash is about Nintendo's history and those closely connected to it. They may allow a Namco character; a lot of people want Pac-Man. Sakurai has said he wants to keep the 3rd party count low.
@LordJackal I'm sure they own some rights to naruto and various shonen jump anime series as they are able to recreate the stories in them without getting their asses sued. And the MG series was totally flipped around and was not of Hideo's doing anyway, and had terrible plot line and didn't even have metal gear in it. MSX versions of metal gear were better than Nintendo and plus there weren't many good nes games out there. And Metal Gear Solid is where he made most of his money.

I know they are third party companies. They are, however, closely tied to Nintendo; Sega because it was Nintendo's big competitor back in the day, and Konami through a series of successful games on Nintendo consoles. Smash Bros. is a game to showcase Nintendo all-stars, and Sonic and Snake are there as guests because of the relevance they have to Nintendo, and due to a request from Hideo Kojima. Naruto has no particular reason to be connected to Nintendo's all-stars.

Tied doesn't mean Nintendo owes them. It means they have a history together. Sonic and Mario are age-old rivals, back in the 90's that was the debate. And Namco is one of the companies that could be represented. There are other more likely companies, though. As for letting anyone in, Sakurai has stated that he doesn't want a lot of third-party characters, and he is going to think very carefully about which ones do get in. He's said he's interested in a Capcom.

Konami has a long relationship with Nintendo. Snake is their mascot and has appeared several times on Nintendo consoles. This is not even close to Naruto, who is not the creation of a video game company nor is he the mascot of any company. Nintendo has no stake in Naruto and vice-versa. Nintendo and Konami have a long relationship, so they put in Konami's best-known character.

You could put baseball players in Smash by that logic. At the end of the day, he's not a video game character. And Smash isn't Soul Calibur, they're about very different things. Soul Calibur is a self-contained fighting game purely about entertainment. Sakurai has stated several times that Smash is about Nintendo's history and world, and has been very stern about third party characters and the role they play in the series. That's the crucial point for me.

I'm not mad, just slightly amused. Several pieces of info have been wrong, and while part of it is opinion quite a bit of it isn't. A beam sword isn't a straight-out lightsaber, and the baseball bat is actually from Earthbound. The sword was an original item created for Smash to add to the gameplay; the concept of an energy sword is hardly limited to Star Wars. Dozens of games use them, from Halo to No More Heroes. It hardly contradicts his goal of honoring Nintendo history.

And there is no Nintendo game in 1999 that had any light sabers in them. placing the beam sword at a straight shot rip off of star wars. It has a different appearance and works in a different way. The only commonality is that it's a sword made of energy, but past that its qualities differ greatly from a lightsaber. Claiming it's a direct rip off of and justification for Star Wars is nonsense. You know that. By that logic, the cracker launcher is ripped off of Mulan's firework cannons.

You were wrong about Metal Gear being a PS only series. I don't know where you got that idea, but Revengeance is being released for the 360. The debate isn't whether the Metal Gear series is more of a Nintendo or Playstation franchise. It's whether or not Snake has ties to Nintendo, which he does. Whether you think the first MG was good or not, several people do, and it is considered a success. That aside, the franchise is successful. On top of that, he's Konami's mascot.
@LordJackal I meant Metal Gear Solid series WAS a PS only game. Kojima only places the games on other consoles years later. He might do the same for 4 but who knows. And I think again that Snake is more tied to the PS because Kojima put the entire HD collection specifically only for the Playstation 3. Why not other consoles? because Kojima feels that Snake has been more tied to the playstation over the years in his career than any other console.
mgs on ps1 has been remade for the gamecube and before you say it sucked it was very good as was the nes game and metal gear solid 3 is going to be remade for the 3ds and naruto sucks

I think instead of Claus, it should be Ninten. Claus would be more or less a clone of Lucas, being that he can only use abilities that Lucas can, including PK Love, which is both of their Final Smashes. Ninten can use other abilities like paralysis and hypnosis, but especially a power neither Ness nor Lucas can use: PK Beam, the Omega version of which could be his Final Smash.

I'm just curious, I've been thinking of Daroach as a playable smash character. Obviously, he's not next, but would you think he's a good idea? He is an antagonist in Kirby Squeak Squad, for most of the game, and he is a leader of some sort. Also, he does appear in Kirby Mass Attack as a side character. He would also have a unique moveset. Ash ketchum was going to be in it but Sakurai stated only game characters hence Trainer Red being in Brawl. Anime characters would not qualify, as Nintendo is a separate company that only gives Nintendo characters in their games. Snake was an exception since Sakurai wanted him. To put anime characters in a game that is strictly for game characters would be illogical given

The only other characters I can see partaking in the new SSB would be Square Enix since they have a long time relationship with Nintendo, but that's as far as I will go. Do the research. Sakurai stated no anime characters, if they wanted them, they would have put them in years ago.

Anime characters make no sense in this context; Marth didn't start as an anime, I don't know where you got that idea. He was a video game character you had an unsuccessful OVA made of one of his game plots. This is a Nintendo game. The first two Metal Gear games were on Nintendo consoles, and there are remakes of MGS on the Gamecube and a remake of MGS3 coming to the 3DS. Therefore, tied to Nintendo. Plus, Konami is a closely tied company to Nintendo. The art style does not change the fact that Marth started on video games. Naruto did not. Saying the drawing style makes them the same is just BS. And SSB is Nintendo only, unlike MVC. It's entire pitch was to showcase Nintendo All-stars.

Snake represents Konami, a company which is tied to Nintendo through a number of large successes over the years, such as Metal Gear and the Castlevania series.The Fire Emblem anime came out in 1996; the game came out in 1990.A similar art style does not make a game or TV show the same thing. That's false. Namco-Bandai is involved in Ultimate Ninja and Uzumaki Chronicles, but are not involved in the other series and do not own the rights to Naruto as an IP. The first MG was rated in the top 200 NES games, and the success of the series itself is what's important. And as I said, Smash is about Nintendo's history and those closely connected to it. They may allow a Namco character; a lot of people want Pac-Man. Sakurai has said he wants to keep the 3rd party count low.

And the MG series was totally flipped around and was not of Hideo's doing anyway, and had terrible plot line and didn't even have metal gear in it. MSX versions of metal gear were better than Nintendo and plus there weren't many good nes games out there. And Metal Gear Solid is where he made most of his money.

And obviously Super Smash Bros isn't "Nintendo only" because you have Konami and Sega characters in it. They aren't like Microsoft and Rare or Microsoft and Valve. The point is Nintendo and Konami and Sega are free to make games for who ever the fuck they want, MEANING they are their own damn companies who run themselves.

I know they are third party companies. They are, however, closely tied to Nintendo; Sega because it was Nintendo's big competitor back in the day, and Konami through a series of successful games on Nintendo consoles. Smash Bros. is a game to showcase Nintendo all-stars, and Sonic and Snake are there as guests because of the relevance they have to Nintendo, and due to a request from Hideo Kojima. Naruto has no particular reason to be connected to Nintendo's all-stars.

And many companies are rivaling eachother now, that doesn't make for instance, Sony tied to Microsoft. =.= Konami and Sega aren't tied to nintendo they simply just have made games on Nintendo, and I'm sure that Nintendo would allow anyone to join their collection especially namco.

Tied doesn't mean Nintendo owes them. It means they have a history together. Sonic and Mario are age-old rivals, back in the 90's that was the debate. And Namco is one of the companies that could be represented. There are other more likely companies, though. As for letting anyone in, Sakurai has stated that he doesn't want a lot of third-party characters, and he is going to think very carefully about which ones do get in. He's said he's interested in a Capcom.

And I'm failing to understand what you mean by being more closely tied to anymore, Because Solid Snake has shown up on Playstation FAR more times than nintendo, I consider him and Kojima considers him a character built for the Playstation only on general grounds. So in comparison to MG, Naruto does belong in just as much as MG.

Konami has a long relationship with Nintendo. Snake is their mascot and has appeared several times on Nintendo consoles. This is not even close to Naruto, who is not the creation of a video game company nor is he the mascot of any company. Nintendo has no stake in Naruto and vice-versa. Nintendo and Konami have a long relationship, so they put in Konami's best-known character.

You could put baseball players in Smash by that logic. At the end of the day, he's not a video game character. And Smash isn't Soul Calibur, they're about very different things. Soul Calibur is a self-contained fighting game purely about entertainment. Sakurai has stated several times that Smash is about Nintendo's history and world, and has been very stern about third party characters and the role they play in the series. That's the crucial point for me.

I'm not mad, just slightly amused. Several pieces of info have been wrong, and while part of it is opinion quite a bit of it isn't. A beam sword isn't a straight-out lightsaber, and the baseball bat is actually from Earthbound. The sword was an original item created for Smash to add to the gameplay; the concept of an energy sword is hardly limited to Star Wars. Dozens of games use them, from Halo to No More Heroes. It hardly contradicts his goal of honoring Nintendo history.

And there is no Nintendo game in 1999 that had any light sabers in them. placing the beam sword at a straight shot rip off of star wars. It has a different appearance and works in a different way. The only commonality is that it's a sword made of energy, but past that its qualities differ greatly from a lightsaber. Claiming it's a direct rip off of and justification for Star Wars is nonsense. You know that. By that logic, the cracker launcher is ripped off of Mulan's firework cannons.

You've been wrong about Metal gear for Nintendo being so succesful when the PS1 version made him so much money he made like tons of spinoffs for it. And that lead to him creating the rest of the series just for the Playstation from then on. What Nintendo is getting now are minimal remakes. You were wrong about Metal Gear being a PS only series. I don't know where you got that idea, but Revengeance is being released for the 360. The debate isn't whether the Metal Gear series is more of a Nintendo or Playstation franchise. It's whether or not Snake has ties to Nintendo, which he does. Whether you think the first MG was good or not, several people do, and it is considered a success. That aside, the franchise is successful. On top of that, he's Konami's mascot.

And I think again that Snake is more tied to the PS because Kojima put the entire HD collection specifically only for the Playstation 3. Why not other consoles? because Kojima feels that Snake has been more tied to the playstation over the years in his career than any other console.

NES Metal Gear I despise, not even Kojima himself could infiltrate the base, and the last boss was a pixelated monitor. MSX was better for the last damn time, may i remind you that Hideo didn't even work on those stupid games for nes, Kojima then continued making MG: solid snake for MSX2 because the NES itself didn't live up...

But he has ties to Nintendo, that's a fact, and as Konami's mascot it makes complete sense for him to be the character that represents them. I think instead of Claus, it should be Ninten. Claus would be more or less a clone of Lucas, being that he can only use abilities that Lucas can, including PK Love, which is both of their Final Smashes. Ninten can use other abilities like paralysis and hypnosis, but especially a power neither Ness nor Lucas can use: PK Beam, the Omega version of which could be his Final Smash.

I'm just curious, I've been thinking of Daroach as a playable smash character. Obviously, he's not next, but would you think he's a good idea? He is an antagonist in Kirby Squeak Squad, for most of the game, and he is a leader of some sort. Also, he does appear in Kirby Mass Attack as a side character. He would also have a unique moveset. I'm just curious on what you would think.
