The reason that the issue frustrates me is because it would be relatively easy to fix. Issue national ID cards, penalize employers for hiring illegals and seal the border. The political will power isn't there however because illegals benefit big business, which provide campaign money to politicians.

To be honest, I don't get why the Americans are voting for McCain. Obama is encouraging international unity, and wants to end the war. Also, almost all of the greatest presidents were democrats, like Roosevelt.
And for your information, I'm a 16-year old European, which means I can't vote, albeit I'd love to. I am not knowledgeable about the 2008 elections, but I DO know that Obama will bring a positive change to the single-most powerful nation in the world.

It's more complicated than that, most Americans are more concerned about specific domestic issues than encouraging international unity. Obama does not talk about this much in his stateside speaches, although I wish he would. As for most great presidents being Demos, some were but the greatest of them all Abe Lincon was a Republican, as was Teddy Roosevelt and Reagan. The Dems had really great ones were Franklin Roosevelt and Kennedy. I hope Obama can be considered one as well.

Europeans would love for Obama to win because he would be great for their economy. Take Ireland for example. Their economy is the fastest growing economy in the world due to the low taxes they put on cooperations. U.S. cooperations have been moving to places like Ireland to avoid the high taxes we already impose on them. Obama wants to increase this tax burden. The heavier the tax burden on the U.S. the more the Europeans benefit.

Yes, it is a problem shared by the significant majority -- many polls have proven that. ILLEGAL(note the word illegal) immigration from Mexico is creating second class slums, taking away minimum wage jobs, creating an an enormous health care burden, and bringing a lot more violence(factually supported) among other things. I'm 100% for legal immigration, but illegal immigration circumvents our laws and provides a slap in the face to those who spent time and money to immigrate legally.

The reason that the issue frustrates me is because it would be relatively easy to fix. Issue national ID cards, penalize employers for hiring illegals and seal the border. My ancestors immigrated LEGALLY, which is a key distinction.. I support immigrants.. This country was built off of it. It angers me however when illegal immigrants completely subvert the system. It provides a slap in the face to legal immigrants who spend the time and money to follow the law. Additionally the shear number of illegal immigrants has brought many problems -- causing hospitals to shut down, monopolizing low paying jobs, bringing more violence, and using government services.

This is a poor speech. No, just because Obama is charismatic does not make it good. You'll notice that Obama never tells us how to solve our problems in this speech. Any idiot can point out what things need to be improved upon.

As I am reading all the comments, I am thinking to myself,"peace" is really a hard thing to create. as long as people think and talk and act based on fear there will be war. I remember once Obama said "it is Okay to be disagree without being disagreeable". Anyway, I don't think Obama is perfect but in thins moment of our life he is our only chance to live in a better, more peaceful world.let's just hope he gets elected.

25 Min speech without saying one specific action that he will take as president--incredible. Obama talks about goals that no one would dissagree with. Who wouldn't want to tear down walls and build bridges?? That's all good, but a kindergartener, while not so eloquently, would come up with the same goal. The question is "How you gonna do it???" Until I hear that, I'm scared of an Obama presidency. Any student of history knows catastrophes can result from good intentions with poor ideas.

I'm of the mind that we do need good intentions and strong leadership. Action comes from ideology. Despite the seeming lack of content, Obama inspires people, with sly rhetoric, to see improvement, not tailspin. In other words, I want the illusion, because whatever he's "really" doing, whatever anyone is "really" doing, is also part of another illusion. I'm saying his image and ideal of positive change will make positive change a reality. Or, at least, it's better than the alternative.

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about living in the Matrix or everyone is a robot or something like that. I just mean that, given the options, we can stand to have a little faith in Obama's ideals.

Since the president can't act our best interests in Europe currently, I'm happy, patriotic even, to see Obama's reception. He has my vote.
