Thats the tune eh! This guy does 360 degree flips as well or used to when I saw him in live Liverpool in1979 .I think I heard 2% Bach for a second can anybody confirm ? It,still am still on cloud nine after this performance . Loud applause .
nils is my inspiration for switching from electric to acoustic guitar! he amazing and ive seen him live twice on his acoustic tours in the uk! nils is a legend and an amazingingly humble man after meeting him twice as well as his friend buck rogers i was amazeed at some of the basic tips they both gave me after a show! brilliant guitarist and SO UNDERATED! one of the greatest guitarists of our time! PLAY LOUD NILS!
Saw him on Friday in Bradford. Gets better each time I see him.... if that's possible. The best acoustic guitar player in my humble opinion. Great show as always. Seeing him again in Sheffield on Thursday. And still might go to York too. Worth every penny.
This man ... takes a just a few moments to completely skin my own self ..leavin bones and shit and what not in the wake of his genius... I cry moon tears.

@alsmed I've seen him twice aswell, only preforming once though. First I saw him with Springsteen, and the other time on the streets of Manhattan actually, after Ringo Starrs 70th Birthday consert, I shouted "Nils, you rock!" and he turned back towards me and shouted "Thanks man!".
@MatteSweden heh...great story...as a guitar player for 30 years...this is an intermediate lesson?....sorry....I'm not even fucking close....I actually got to see him play with his brother Tom in Wilkes Barre PA....and partied with his band afterwards....he is an amazing guitar player....and the most underrated of all time..but I don't think he cares?
very moving, has Keith ever responded to it, in print or personally to Nils?...according to his autobiography just out he did take the advice, and has been off the heroin for 30 years now...
Had this playing full blast in the car as I arrived in Monaghan for the Blues Festival in 2007 -(The Festival had been dead and buried for six long years and it was the rise of the Phoenix for me!)
The song has a very special place in my heart, as a result, quite apart from the fact that it's just so brilliant.
Saw Nils perform it live in Belfast a year or so later -- awesome!
Someone shouted from the back-- "Who needs Bruce Springteen?"-- Nils responded-- "The E-Street band!"
@HoodedSword He's had quite the career first playing w/ Neil Young and then fronting his own band, Grin. Been a member of Springsteen's E Street Band since 1984. Check out his solo at the end of the song Youngstown from Springsteen Live in NYC
Somehow, I have copied that 'close enough for rock 'n roll' whenever I can't get my guitar tuned...
Damn good performance, I love how none of them are 100% the same but it's still undeniable the same song. If I EVER get to Nils' level of handling my guitar, I'll be one goddamn happy person ;)
I know the world is crazy when Miley Cirus last single (I did not knew who she was until a friend with bad music taste told me to check her) has more than 98 000 000 views and this TREMENDOUS-WONDEFUL-ATOMIC-BOMB performance has less than 200 000 views after 4 years. LOL, WHATEVER ??? NILS FOR EVER !
I've been a fan since 1971. The double lead guitar on See What Love Can Do (Grin, 1971) is something The Allman Brothers could only aspire to. And I used to drive my parents to distraction playing Nils' piano riffs on Neil Young's "Southern Man".
nils is one of the most important figures in rock n roll. From 75-89
he changed rock music, few people have followed his lead , a complete spiritual path like a shaolin monk! -piano , guitar, singing and totally into the body, gymnastcs, kung fu etc not to mention the writing, oh the writing !completley unique music continuing the tradion of the stones but with the classical training theres simply 'more' in it , in terms of substance.!
Man, that was comic genius. A 7 and a a half minute long epic song that you have pretty much no hope of learning from watching this, and 'so that's the basic tune...' at the end. I love dry humour.
He really kicks ass on the guitar, I'm willing to go out on a limb and say he's the best when it comes to guitar in the Estreet Band even better then the Boss! That wasn't easy for me to say but its true Nils is just great.
not a great songwriter ? should have stayed in crazyhorse?cant agree, perhaps not the lyricist that neil young or bruce springsteen is, but he is a deeper musical talent than the two of them put together .
no offence but the best of nils is mightily impressive in a way springsteen or neil young cant match.
as an aside i think nils is a totally different kettle of fish to springsteen and young ,just because he's played for them dosnt make the music similer.
I don't think he's lazy I just don't think he was a great songwriter. He had his moments with this song and his first solo album had his best songwriting by far of his solo and grin projects. Plus while I think he's a great guitarist (very underrated) he dose have a tendency to noodle around on his solo albums after the first one...he really belonged in a band where he he was one of like 3-4 writers. Also he should have stayed in Crazy Horse. I can't stand Springsteen, but Neil is god.
Ive been into Brooce (and Nils ) for along time now. And yeah I think Pre Born in the USA was his best but hes done some excellent stuff since. I dont like that he has to play at being Bruce but alot of his fans like the same old sets and stories. But he has always had a change of style from his early Steel Mill days and I rate Nebraska up with his best.
As for Nils, what more can you say, listen to the geezer, Hes the bolocks!!!

the last few 5 studio albums have not been good enough by the standards he set in those years IMO. the neil young/b springsteen thing is controversial.
@inomawthanu 'lazy' (which I also do not see as a put down)doesn't take into account how incredibly hard, & sometimes impossible, it is to push your way thru THE MULTIPLE BARRIERS to the upper tiers in the music INDUSTRY if they are not welcoming you as a pop hit maker , or the next big thing. With WONDERLAND Nils clearly gave them everything they needed to promote him as a fantastic solo artist & it didn't really happen. After that, it looks like they only saw him as Bruce's side man
Wow! I'm a Springsteen fan, and I've even though I love Nils in E Street Band concerts, I've only just thought to look for him on You Tube. I'm so stupid! He's wonderful!
What a massive talent. I have seen the E-Street Band many times. Bruce has always introduced him the same way, "The great Nils Lofgren." There is no other way to describe him.
A very VERY talented man. Compliments Bruce's fantastic songs and lyrics wonderfully well but a great artist in his own right. Search out Nils' magnificent live solo at the end of the full E Street Band version of 'Youngstown'. I consider myself very privileged to have seen that live!! A true meeting of HUGE talents.
What a great great guitar player! Guess I´m gonna check him out for a while..

I have some Martin Logan summits and they sound awfully good on this music. (the summits are speakers)

ATTN GUITAR PLAYERS!! What does Nils mean, it's tuned to 4/4?? (Four Four)
rippleway123 2 years ago
He means 440 hz i.e. standard tuning in concert pitch.
jacklury1 2 years ago
Just before he play Nils said "it's close enough for rock n'roll"
So he wanna say that his guitar is not really in tune, but that's ok for playing rock

Superb!!
Nils came out of the womb with an acoustic guitar in his hand!!
