@onigay786 Couple of reasons.

1) Basically they wern't going to give him a good enough contract.

2) He wanted to move to what was then considered "the best league in the world" - Serie A (bigger challenge - look how easy it was @ Barca for him)

3) I think he felt let down by his teammates in some games and that Barca were not going to get any better (and they didnt get better until a couple of years after he left).

Messi has great speed and dribbling skills but quite honestly he hasn't proven he's up there with Maradona and Ronaldo, Zidane, Baggio or more recently Ronaldinho or anyone like that. I'd go as far as to say he has yet to prove he can turn an important game on his own. It is possible he will get even better and achieve more and then maybe... But in all honesty at Messi's age Maradona and Ronaldo were much better and more influential players.

There is only one better than Pelé and Maradona; is called Ronaldo. He can do everything, great physical condition, lot of strength, a lot of skill and agility with the ball, great field vision, very good passer, extremely fast with and without the ball, awesome mental focus, great and very accurate shot and even with his two legs, good header. The perfect player, the Phenomenon !

@r9alexito agreed x 100...the perfect attacking player...he was Pele just that little bit better in every aspect also had very good vision..ppl seem to underestimate R9's vision...he wasnt the best passer ever, but he was a very intelligent passer n cud split a defense with a through ball if he needed to..he was also brilliant at first time, 1 touch passing..ppl dont remember that he was a suporrt striker / play maker for some years when Romario was the main striker with Brazil..
