just test drove this today! amazing,IMPROVED. very quite while starting up.dont even need to put the key in. The key has a radio signal. all you need to do is press start=] engine roars when you floor it ;p when you get out of the car and touch the handle all the doors automatically lock.i love this car.my mom has a bmw 535 xi right now and it cant even compare to the 550i sedan 2011

I really think BMW went wrong on this. They got scared by the media, and all the negative controversy the E60 have because people don't like change. By 2009, the E60 was well recieved. Now, they give this bland excuse for a sports sedan

Hey, haters... Look at the history of the design of BMW up until the end of the generation of the E46, E39, and E38; all of the small, midsize, and full size BMW's looked alike. That is how BMW distinguished themselves from other brands and made their vehicles popular. BMW is just doing what worked well in the past and is setting up the stage for a very promising future. Damn fine job BMW.
Way better then it predecessor but I would still take the 2011 Infiniti M37/56 over the 2011 5 series. This car was well executed in terms of styling and performance compared to the previous generation but in all the new Infiniti M37/56 won my heart. The 2011 BMW looks mean though. I really like how they made it look like a little to their flagship

The look is not only awful but it's boring as hell. This is not what I expected from a 21st century car. Pretty much the same dash as before and I'm sure it carries on the same crappy, disappointing durability & reliability as before.

This is a car that can't be compared with any other car of its class. Mercedes has even more crappy dash board and since 20 years they never change it. But people who buy those cars they don't go with the dashboard , they go with the Ultimate driving experience of the of car. Drive Honda and be happy with the fancy dashboard.
1- I have never driven any car as good as the 5 series (not even the 3 or 7 series) NONE WHAT SO EVER. 5 series are in my opinion the ultimate driving machine at least in its class. No argue there. Well actually I have owned one. And it was a bag of shit, the 5 series BMW from 2002 had a seized gearbox, then the dasboard came loose and the glovebox lid fell off. BMW's are not as good as they were, and most pundits agree that the new Ford Mondeo is better than the new 3 series BMW. SOOO many people are brainwashed by BMW. The new BMW's and Mercs and Jags, are decidedly average. I suppose that so many GULIBLE individuals will still buy them.

@NakedSnakeBlGBOSS have you ever driven any of these cars? im sure you haven't if you ever drove a m3 around a track its so much more fun then the gt-r. gt-r has amazing grip, fast acceleration, but cant let the tail slide like a m3 can. M3's are more fun, more luxurious and i'd choose the m3 over the ugly gt-r anyday. realistically it just depends on what kind of style you like and realistically m3 gets more fine bitches then a gt-r does.

I totally agree with you (spotswood4444). We owned three BMWs at the same time back in the 80s and 90s; As much as they were fun to drive and comfortable the durability and reliability were rather horrible. We always had problems with them. It's sad how brainwashed people are & they only find out when they buy one, especially a second hand one; withing a couple of years they go broke fixing them every now & then. We have only owed Nissan & Infiniti since the mid 90s & we've never had problems.
Well I thought BMW's were great until I test drove a 2007 5 series last week. It was the 520i. It was so disappointing. It had no power delivery in comparison to a 2 litre vw. Also the interior in a vw golf is of far better quality. BMW's are blown way out of proportion be some.
Apart from the 6 series, all BMW's look similar to each other. I agree that the engineering is very good, but they are so BORING to look at, and the interior is always cheap and tacky. I recently found out from an ex BMW employee that the ROVER 75 outsold the BMW 5 series in Germany in 2004, because it was much better looking, both outside and inside. The interior of the Rover is one of the best ever made. And the Rover came with a BMW diesel engine. so best of both worlds.

I generaly prefer American cars, as I like the styling. I would love a Lincoln Continental MK5, with the 460 cubic inch engine, beautiful and well made.

In the UK we now have Chevrolet dealers an the service that they offer is brilliant, I know that the models sold here by Chevy are basic, but they do what it states on the tin. V Good value for money, with 3 years servicing.

Just open your eyes people! This is how the 5 series should look like! BMW 3,5,7 series looked very similar until Bangle got the Chief Designer post. The rear light design came from the E34, they have just changed it a bit to fit in the 21th century. Look at the front sideways, they try to keep the shark look as far as pedestrian safety let it. The dashboard a bit turned to the driver again. BMW is just moving back to traditions that made BMW famous!
This is a very ugly BMW, just like all of the others except the 6 series. They are so boring on the outside, and so uninteresting on the inside (Badly made interior). The engineering is good but they need to be much more adventurous with the look of the car, as it has basically stayed the same for years. In 2004 even the Germans decided to buy the wonderful Rover 75 in much greater numbers, because it showed style and class, and it had the best designed interior of any car of it's class.

I am not American, but I can tell you that I have owned Mercedes and BMW's, and also Jags, and compared with a 5.7 litre V8 Oldsmobile that I had, they are crap.
The Olds was better made and also drove beautifully, unlike the noisey and rattly BMW. Plus BMW's are very ugly except for the 6 series.

I'm awaiting what should be one hell of a showdown between this and the Infiniti M. Honestly I wish I could afford both. ;) The F10's more traditional design should not go unappreciated. It looks much better than the E60 to me. The interior is light-years better and gives up nothing to any competitor. Could this be the perfect sedan?

For me, it's the type of sea animal that the front evokes. It shows a longer than usual, slightly overhanging, blunt nose.
Mind you, the "sharky" look of all the 80's BMW's now seems acceptable, perhaps because the overhang was more pointy, but a blunt one seems less appealing...to me.
From the begin of the windshield back, looks okay to me, but the front...less appealing.

Most people who comment on this vid and comment on BMW have never owned one. And comparing Oldsmobil or a Rover to BMW is sheer ignorance. The comment below saying Rover sold more cars in 2004 is as relevant as comparing Kia to BMW. Rover went bust and sold to the Chienese, it was as good a car! BMW is the market leader in the luxury class selling 1.2 cars worldwide. In terms of technology and sophistication it is in a different legaue

Well actually I have owned one. And it was a bag of shit, the 5 series BMW from 2002 had a seized gearbox, then the dasboard came loose and the glovebox lid fell off. BMW's are not as good as they were, and most pundits agree that the new Ford Mondeo is better than the new 3 series BMW. SOOO many people are brainwashed by BMW. The new BMW's and Mercs and Jags, are decidedly average. I suppose that so many GULIBLE individuals will still buy them.
And then the boring styling. Always the same.

They started as moneymakers and therefore they haven't got any tradition and as a result of that they have to be revolutionary. Ford Mustang Boss was made with M3 benchmark, and Boss edition is expected to be a lot cheaper than an M3.
On the other hand, BMW M3 costs as much as Nissan GT-R but nowhere near as fast as GT-R. So, M3 has got this more expensive edition, called GTS, which is three times more expensive than an M3 and yet, still nowhere near as fast as GT-R.

@NakedSnakeBlGBOSS have you ever driven any of these cars? im sure you haven't if you ever drove a m3 around a track its so much more fun then the gt-r. gt-r has amazing grip, fast acceleration, but cant let the tail slide like a m3 can. M3's are more fun, more luxurious and i'd choose the m3 over the ugly gt-r anyday. realistically it just depends on what kind of style you like and realistically m3 gets more fine bitches then a gt-r does.

Motortrend sees the light. They even believe that the CTS has better road feel. They believe that the Mustang is more balanced. and they are usually bias tward BMW. You can keep your douchbag mobile. Be my guest, try to change your own oil on your slow understeer prone, overcomplicated car.

I totally agree with you (spotswood4444). We owned three BMWs at the same time back in the 80s and 90s; As much as they were fun to drive and comfortable the durability and reliability were rather horrible. We always had problems with them. It's sad how brainwashed people are & they only find out when they buy one, especially a second hand one; withing a couple of years they go broke fixing them every now & then. We have only owed Nissan & Infiniti since the mid 90s & we've never had problems.

Well I thought BMW's were great until I test drove a 2007 5 series last week. It was the 520i. It was so disappointing. It had no power delivery in comparison to a 2 litre vw. Also the interior in a vw golf is of far better quality. BMW's are blown way out of proportion be some.

Apart from the 6 series, all BMW's look similar to each other. I agree that the engineering is very good, but they are so BORING to look at, and the interior is always cheap and tacky. I recently found out from an ex BMW employee that the ROVER 75 outsold the BMW 5 series in Germany in 2004, because it was much better looking, both outside and inside. The interior of the Rover is one of the best ever made. And the Rover came with a BMW diesel engine. so best of both worlds.

I generaly prefer American cars, as I like the styling. I would love a Lincoln Continental MK5, with the 460 cubic inch engine, beautiful and well made.
But each to their own I suppose.
I do think that all BMW's look the same, if only they were a bit more adventurous with the styling.
I know a guy with a Rover 75 Diesel with over 300.000 miles on it, but they come with a BMW engine.

I am very pleased that you love your BMW.
But I would not have one because I personaly do not like the styling. Also Audi's have a less than fantastic record for reliability in the UK, and the same can be said for Mercedes, who have a very bad record for customer service.
In the UK we now have Chevrolet dealers an the service that they offer is brilliant, I know that the models sold here by Chevy are basic, but they do what it states on the tin. V Good value for money, with 3 years servicing.

In all respects to BMW the car was well executed but i would honestly take a 2011 Infiniti M37/56 over this.

i agree i had a 2002 bmw 745li with 98k miles i should have known it would have many problems considering with how much miles it had on it and the electronics inside are a POS the nav freezes and everything im looking at Lexus now i always was a fan of Lexus vehicles but they cost so much im going to buy a 2007 GS350 with 33K miles

I hope Bmw can find a way to equalize the pressure from exploding airbags soon! As it is now the pressure buildup inside the car will break your ears and leave you partially deaf!

Just open your eyes people! This is how the 5 series should look like! BMW 3,5,7 series looked very similar until Bangle got the Chief Designer post. The rear light design came from the E34, they have just changed it a bit to fit in the 21th century. Look at the front sideways, they try to keep the shark look as far as pedestrian safety let it. The dashboard a bit turned to the driver again. BMW is just moving back to traditions that made BMW famous!

This is a very ugly BMW, just like all of the others except the 6 series. They are so boring on the outside, and so uninteresting on the inside (Badly made interior). The engineering is good but they need to be much more adventurous with the look of the car, as it has basically stayed the same for years. In 2004 even the Germans decided to buy the wonderful Rover 75 in much greater numbers, because it showed style and class, and it had the best designed interior of any car of it's class.

I am not American, but I can tell you that I have owned Mercedes and BMW's, and also Jags, and compared with a 5.7 litre V8 Oldsmobile that I had, they are crap.
The Olds was better made and also drove beautifully, unlike the noisey and rattly BMW. Plus BMW's are very ugly except for the 6 series.

I'm awaiting what should be one hell of a showdown between this and the Infiniti M. Honestly I wish I could afford both. ;) The F10's more traditional design should not go unappreciated. It looks much better than the E60 to me. The interior is light-years better and gives up nothing to any competitor. Could this be the perfect sedan?

For me it is no-BMW, it is just a car with a BMW badge... Just as in 5 GT this car has no own style, soul. A5 is so much nicer, A6 also. M1 concept, Efficient dynamics concept - this is a style that BMW should be build in, front of this cars is so aggresive, so beautiful. Where is E39? E34?...

For me, it's the type of sea animal that the front evokes. It shows a longer than usual, slightly overhanging, blunt nose.
Mind you, the "sharky" look of all the 80's BMW's now seems acceptable, perhaps because the overhang was more pointy, but a blunt one seems less appealing...to me.
From the begin of the windshield back, looks okay to me, but the front...less appealing.
Lots of "rib" action along body and hood.
That's alright.
