@scotlandloose Okay, so guess what I did in Biology Lab today? haha umm we counted the heart beats of the Daphnia....sorry :/ we can be friends now. But only if you improve your spelling skills :) bwahahah
WOW, what magnification is that? Also, do you know what species? I have what I think is Daphnia (pulex?) but I may be completely wrong...you are clearly the bio-student! Any help with identification would be much appreciated, sorry for the poor quality (compared to yours).
This is why chemists and physicists say all that we do is look at things under the microscope and say "Ohh, look! An (insert microscopic organism name)! Isn't it cute?!"
Today, I fished a daphnid out of my culture of pond water. When I saw it with my naked eye, I thought it was a bug. Then, when I first saw it through the microscope, I thought it was a protozoan awaking from a cyst because it was all curled up in a ball! I saw something moving inside. Then it started to come out. When it got out, it started moving around like crazy in its micropond!
that is wrong,my teacher is a scientist.the heart is near the head

so which is the heart, the end of the long tube or the thing that looks like a sardine?
jackerrspk 2 years ago
The heart is actually located near its back to the right of the long tube thing. It's not clear in this video.

Daphnia and water flea are the same thing.

Brilliant photography, to show the daphnia so sharply in focus, at such a high magnification. Amazing to watch!
