was at a salvage yard-had an old magnesium engine block, we broke off a piece, and hit it with an acetelene torch, and dropped it in a radiator valve. probably the coolest thing a VW and a volvo could ever do.

To light a Bunsen burner do you use matches or that metal "thingy" that makes a spark? My junior high teacher said use the "metal thing" -don't know what it's called - and the high school teacher said to use matches always. If I ever go to college I wonder what the professor would say.
Also, why did this video come up when I was looking at "conspiracy" videos?
In school lab I was having some fun with magnesium and then I droped pure magenisum powder 20 cm over bunse burner... my righ sleeve got burned, I lost all hair on lower parts of my hand and got burned. So the lesson of this is: Never ever under any cirmumstance drop pure magnesium powder over bunsen burner!!!
then i don't comply with your rules! mwahahahaha...although something similar happened to my friend....he was sprinkling some over a oil lamp when the sparks traveled up the steady stream of it and flashed a lil on his finger, he was perfectly fine and he said it didn't even hurt....although his finger was burnt just slightly on the top.
@pingpongpung Yeah the result of that would probably be the brightest flash you have ever seen, there would also be a lot of heat created and the entire cup could explode. Something that you shouldn`t try at home or anywhere else for that matter if your life is dear to you :)
I once held a magnesium strip (With thoose twerzer things, of course) (About as long as my wrist to me middle finger (7 - 10 cm)) to a bunsen burner burning blue. Oh man, it lit up like the fourth of july. Except i didnt get burned much...
i new this guy who had a shed full of magnesium tools and his house burned down, the fire fighters sprayd it with water and lit 2 other houses on fire, it was freaking awsome to watch.
search up cancheeb(he makes videos on youtube) he makes flash powder with powdered magnesium and ammonium nitrate from instant cold packs from any store. if you dont know what flash powder is then search it up
Not officially but if your dad works their then Yes I am Right But im not gonna be a dumbass and make a vid of me holding the stuff as proof...or will I...no i wont lol

The MythBusters guys set off 1000 pounds of thermite to try to burn a car in half. To see how that turned out, see my video:

Surprisingly, no one who means to ignite a fire used Magnesium.
I just learned about it in a Science class, I'm now an old styled pyro technician.

Holy-Terrorist:>Aïe, mm i know is dangerous,
the alliage magnesium-aluminium
is good for fabrication flash powder with potassium chlorate, with potassium perchlorate is very good in 70% and alliage in 30%

The fire is beautiful thing to look at. Very bright and white. It's deadly though...How do they put out magnesium fires though? Liquid nitrogen?

Water would do just fine, just takes longer.

@DrModd What if you would attach a cup of magnesium powder to a long pole and then drop it over a bunsen burner?

The extreme heat from the burning mag. breaks up the H2O into H and O, the H burns with the help of the O, lol.
