  • screw that, i wanna use magnesium in an experiment

  • The MythBusters guys set off 1000 pounds of thermite to try to burn a car in half. To see how that turned out, see my video:

    Incendiary Experiments

  • That's why we should use uranium. It's much safer

  • Mercedes used it to mKe their seats lol

  • was at a salvage yard-had an old magnesium engine block, we broke off a piece, and hit it with an acetelene torch, and dropped it in a radiator valve. probably the coolest thing a VW and a volvo could ever do.

  • i did it once during science

    we took a glass plate

    put magnesium on it

    then ignited it

    about 5-10 seconds later

it exploded and broke the glass plate

  • it'll take ur fuckin head off.

  • Yeah, I learned this the hard way in my chemistry lab in college.

  • magnesium burns MAD hot, so hot the military uses it to burn/melt through whatever they want to put a big hot hole in.

  • @nerdlydood

a big hot hole... WAIT WHY ISNT IT WET?

  • as a kid...I lit a mix of magnesium dust and potassium chlorate powder. It was so much more than flashpowder !!. Lost an eyebrow that day, and had an instant sunburn !!

  • mad physics yo!

  • never ever fuckin spit on this while its burning it blew up on me wen i did that

  • LMFAO! THAT WAS ALL TRUE XDD

  • wouldn't it be mad chemistry O_O?

  • You can use ordinary matches, np.

  • To light a Bunsen burner do you use matches or that metal "thingy" that makes a spark? My junior high teacher said use the "metal thing" -don't know what it's called - and the high school teacher said to use matches always. If I ever go to college I wonder what the professor would say.

Also, why did this video come up when I was looking at "conspiracy" videos?

  • @nevaseenamancry its called a flint striker.

  • Has MythBusters taught you nothing? Saying "don't try this at home" just encourages anyone with an IQ lower than 65.

  • Surprisingly, no one who means to ignite a fire used Magnesium.

I just learned about it in a Science class, I'm now an old styled pyro technician.

  • Holy-Terrorist:>Aïe, mm i know is dangerous,

    the alliage magnesium-aluminium

is good for fabrication flash powder with potassium chlorate, with potassium perchlorate is very good in 70% and alliage in 30%

  • The fire is beautiful thing to look at. Very bright and white. It's deadly though...How do they put out magnesium fires though? Liquid nitrogen?

  • Water would do just fine, just takes longer.

  • In school lab I was having some fun with magnesium and then I droped pure magenisum powder 20 cm over bunse burner... my righ sleeve got burned, I lost all hair on lower parts of my hand and got burned. So the lesson of this is: Never ever under any cirmumstance drop pure magnesium powder over bunsen burner!!!

  • then i don't comply with your rules! mwahahahaha...although something similar happened to my friend....he was sprinkling some over a oil lamp when the sparks traveled up the steady stream of it and flashed a lil on his finger, he was perfectly fine and he said it didn't even hurt....although his finger was burnt just slightly on the top.

  • oops, sorry, alchahol lamp...dropping magnesium near a kerosene lamp would be super idiotic X1000

  • @DrModd What if you would attach a cup of magnesium powder to a long pole and then drop it over a bunsen burner?

  • @pingpongpung Yeah the result of that would probably be the brightest flash you have ever seen, there would also be a lot of heat created and the entire cup could explode. Something that you shouldn`t try at home or anywhere else for that matter if your life is dear to you :)

  • @DrModd there is one circumstance:

    you're emo

  • @darkstripeCAT13 And you're. asshole :P

  • @DrModd

    Hehe.

I once held a magnesium strip (With thoose twerzer things, of course) (About as long as my wrist to me middle finger (7 - 10 cm)) to a bunsen burner burning blue. Oh man, it lit up like the fourth of july. Except i didnt get burned much...

  • Magnesium kicks ass. FIRE!

  • the fire is beautiful

  • copper chloride is funner... we did it in class

  • i new this guy who had a shed full of magnesium tools and his house burned down, the fire fighters sprayd it with water and lit 2 other houses on fire, it was freaking awsome to watch.

  • you got a vid off it

  • no... sadly i dont have a a vid of it, if i did i would have posted it a long time ago

  • buahahhahaha!!! true or not thats just good story tellin!

  • That's because water is bad thing to put out magnesium with....

The extreme heat from the burning mag. breaks up the H2O into H and O, the H burns with the help of the O, lol.

  • the hot magnesium steals the O and the H burns in air :O

  • Just throw some water on it & your problems will become much smaller!

  • loololooloollolololololololo

  • kool

  • haha lol

  • Nice!

  • Go physics!!

  • this is chemistry :~S

  • sorry... '.' Chemistry!

  • Where can you keep stuff like this? Is there any safes or tins that are made for this purpose so they wont set fire to my shed lol

  • I own like a 5 pound finely ground bag of Magnesium that i ...(FOUND) what should i do whith it thats entertaining

  • search up cancheeb(he makes videos on youtube) he makes flash powder with powdered magnesium and ammonium nitrate from instant cold packs from any store. if you dont know what flash powder is then search it up

  • lol what do you mean you "Found"???

Where on earth would you get a 5 pound bag of magnesium?!

  • My dad works at NASA Nuff said... (they were machining a satellite )

  • Yeah and NASA is handing out free bags of magnesium... riiiight ;)

  • Not officially but if your dad works their then Yes I am Right But im not gonna be a dumbass and make a vid of me holding the stuff as proof...or will I...no i wont lol

  • Well then... consider yourself one lucky b*st*rd :D

If only a had a bag of Mg, always handy when making pyro :)

  • Yea I am lucky I got like 4 Half gallon zip block bags left fully packed like a kilo of crack lol

  • wait. where did you get it? I'm only getting a fwe strips from the left overs of experiments.

  • flash powder! :D

or burn it, thats always fun.

  • That was the best video Ive ever seen.

  • don't try this at home??

MY ASS!!! i wWILL try this at home!

  • "don't try this at home, Try it at a friends house"

  • if you keep smashing on the magnesium this will happen yes -_- but not if you dont do that... i will still try it at home..

  • \ idk uhhhh that was liek what?? smelted iron or somethign!

  • ferchrissakes, it looks like you're doing it in the house??!

  • so wheres the rest
