You're a douche. You obviously aren't a Sopranos fan. And you don't know David Chase's style either do you? Meadow didn't factor in? How about her being a future mob lawyer? How about the constant fear Tony lives in. Oh, and RITCHIE died in Season 2 asshole!!!
Everything you say is right except the douche part. You can How About you ass off... the show ended with a blank screen. The world stops at that moment. Get a camera and shoot whatever ending you want, then you may have your ending. If not, you have a black screen and for me and millions of others, disappointment.

I like this theory the best. And the episode sucked. Carmela doing nothing, Meadow going to law school-no med school-no law school-no med school. AJ completly getting over the previous week's suicide attempt and complaining that his cushy showbiz job does not utilize his invisible talents. Tony having a sit-down for the billionth time. The only one who did anything of interest was the FBI agent. (And HE gets to sleep with a hot female agent? That's a stretch, too.)
Guess the female agent had the info on PHIL. By sleeping with her he(FBI agent) was able to pass on PHILS location. FBI agents life was a mirror image of TONYS just on the other side of the law.
If you believe TONY was killed who did it? That was NIKKI, Tony would have remembered him from the sitdown with PHIL. NIKKI would not have sat 10 feet away from TONY and stared at him for 5 minutes.
Since nothing explains TONY walking into the restaurant and seeing himself sitting at a booth wearing totally different clothes its anyones guess to what happens.
Sorry to flood you with comments, this character limit is so damn annoying though!
If you are at all interested, I suggest you check out TheChaseLounge . net for some great insight on the series finale. Trust me, we at The Chase Lounge have probably thought this finale out much better than you, and I encourage to reconsider your stance.
Even if clues suggest he is whacked, who needs the stunt of leaving clues. Tony was shot before and lived, are there clues to suggest he doesn't pull through this time? What happens to the rest of the family? Most storytelling sets a character up to impossible odds, and then the character prevails. You choose to assume that it does not happen here. You might be wrong. Point is... you can play mind games all you want. But the show is over and nothing happens. But I respect your opinion.
Years ago, Tony told Melfi that guys like him either end up dead or in the can. Earlier in this very last episode, Tony is told by his lawyer than he will almost certainly be indicted soon. So if we aren't certain that Tony dies in the final scene, we certainly know he will end up in jail soon anyway. Either way, we know the future doesn't look bright for Tony Soprano. That's the point of the ending.
With this ending, you create your own conclusion. Tony dies, if you choose to follow those clues (cause there's plenty of them. And I hope you were joking about the chef having Tony's back, that's a load of crap). Others have said that this ending merely represents what it's like to be Tony - constantly paranoid and suspicious of everybody at every moment. They say the whole point of the final scene was to show what it's like to be Tony Soprano.
Chase has never been a conventional storyteller, and if you expected a neatly wrapped-up ending now, you've no one to blame for your disappointment but yourself. People watch this show for different reasons, some just for the action scenes, others for the realistic portrayal of family, the psychological study, etc. Chase can't please everybody, you know.
Excellent commentary, Gary, I agree with you whole heartedly. The blank screen that all the cast members have called a brilliant stroke of genius was nothing more than a "film school" ending, something like you'd see on "The Lot". I felt ripped off and cheated, thanks for voicing your opinion.
I don't think Chase really cares about feedback from "fans" of your kind. Seriously, have you ever understood what Chase's piece was about? It's filled with the most subtle of touches and little visual clues. If you really paid attention, maybe you'd realize more happened in this episode than nothing. And big fan that you are, you call the boss of the NY crew Richie? Shows the amount of attention you pay to this show, and how much attention Chase would pay to your feedback.
First, YES I got Phil's name wrong because I was so furious. It was a dumb mistake.
So it's a week after the show, and (with Chase's help)fans are finding little hints suggesting Tony was whacked. But REAL fans are noticing even smaller details -- Tony had men all around, so the hit went wrong. Are you blind? Didn't you notice how Tony sort of nodded to one of the chefs... The chef was watching Tony's back. Onion rings were the signal to take out the hitmen. How could you miss that?
The point is, it makes no difference what little hints were planted. The show was never The Davinci Code.... it was story telling. Why should the final episode become this subtle puzzle all of a sudden? The truth is that the show went to black without any resolution.... Maybe Tony was just wounded. Maybe only Carmella got hit? Maybe maybe maybe. The show ended with nothing but disappointment for MILLIONS of people. Now they are playing games trying to undo the disappointment.
Wow this guy is runnin at the mouth and he didnt even understand the ending. This guy aint that sharp if he cant put 2 and 2 together and figure out Tony got whacked.
Most of America thought their TV or Cable Box was broken. So what if David Chase releases all sorts of "hints." When the show ended, there was an audible moan of disappointment from my entire block. He, and you, can say whatever you wanted. The end of the show was a blank screen, and a dead end. If you liked it, fine. Next time you go to the movies, walk out before it ends. You can be a genius then, too.
i can't post links but if you search "Sopranos" on CNN it has videos on the side about the sopranos, and the video is called "Are You Kidding Me?" by Jeanne Moos.
by the way, i'm pretty sure the other producers in the industry realized that the sopranos ending sucked. the producers of "Lost" says they're going to tie up all the loose ends and not leave the viewers hanging.
I agree; Chase & Co. have been jerking off all over the viewers all season, with false foreshadowing (like Janis's daughter in the lake). No, this was not artistic genius, just Chase disrespecting us, and laughing all the way to the bank. No, we can never know for certain what occured (so pundits can stop insisting that Tony is dead.)
sorry for saying you have no life but honestly the no ending thing really isent a big deal. It may have a movie in the future Tony has to build the jersey mob back up. The Lady and the tiger did have an ending i just forgot it.
From what I hear, I think the consensus now is that Tony died. The final cut to black was the moment of his death from his own perspective. So it really wasn't ambiguous at all. Just in case you haven't heard.
another thing is whats the chances of the creator seeing this pathetic vid..Im happy the season dident have an ending cuz if tony died...well that would just suck.. so STFU stop complaining and get a life.
I have a life... I am a writer. And I know what a cop-out is. Even if David Chase didn't see this, at least I got to voice my sincere disappointment. (And it was featured on CNN, so maybe he did see it.)
I think you missed it, his power struggle is with Little Carmine, in the sit down, Little Carmine backed down and admitted that Tony is the new crime lord of NY
ok i do agree with on one thing the last episode was pretty stupid...but why the fuck should it have an ending if an ending happened...lets say Tony got killed...then what...everyone would just say I KNEW IT!!! that ending gave it a perfect oppurtunity to have a movie and your complianing.
Well, the JOB of a CREATIVE PERSON is to come up with an ending that is not predictable but still satisfying. You are saying ANY ending would be a disappointment. I say, any ending YOU think of might be disappointing. But a creative (high paid) producer can come up with something.
I think there's a good reason they did it the way they did. One to keep it open to the viewers opinion. BUT! The other reason is because if they make a movie, they aren't stuck continuing with it in one way or another. If they want to bring back all the past characters, they can do a prequel and maybe bring it up to present and have Tony dead. OR if they want to continue with a trial or him being free, they can pick it up from where it was left off.
Or heck, like you said, they were really focusing on AJ the last few episodes. You know a little more about him, and maybe the movie will be after Tony's death, he decided that he needed to take over the business and get even for his dads death and the movie will come out of that.
Personally I hope there is a movie to close things out. A lot of people think Tony died in the series finale because of a conversation he had with Bobby about death. It appears him dying might be the case. I don't know how much you can trust sources out there, but an HBO rep said "that if you thought the guy in the members only jacket looked suspicious you might be on to something."
So really, by leaving it blank, it satisfies the viewer by letting them make up their own ending, and allows them to go in whatever direction they want when and if they chose to make a movie out of it.
The Sopranoes epsiode was BS and I don't think it had any sort of artistic value that way they can negotiate a contract for another season or a movie. This is a clear ploy for money if they can get the money and contract issues worked out maybe will have a sopranos movie or another season.if not then they'll say there it is!That was a ploy for money and just a litte something to wake up sopranoes viewers who have been vegitated the last two seasons
I agree. The finale was very lame!!! Felt like I had wasted lots of time watching the show for it to end like that. garyapple, is stupid dot com your website?
I liked the ending, and thought it was perfect and genius. I mean, if you think about it, every episode was very open ended. Nothing was ever presented straight up. So by cutting to black at that point, you can take it however you want, just like every other episode. I don't think it could have ended any differently. And after all...look at the uproar it caused and all of the talk. If it ended with Tonys death or whomevers death, do you REALLY think it would be remembered as it was?
The next time you read a book, rip the last 20 pages out and throw them away. Or when you go to a film, walk out ten minutes before the ending. Books and Movies are open-ended too.... UNTIL YOU GET TO THE END. Then, if they are any good, they actually end in a satisfying and surprising way. The series was like a long movie or book, and should have ended in some way.
If you've watched Sopranos from the beginning then you've heard Tony talking about death and that nothing happens when you die, you don't "hear" anything and that everything just goes "black". Thats why the finale ended the way it did. Alot of people don't get that but yeah, Tony does die at the end.
If you want to believe that, then great. It doesn't work for me. Chase went so out of his way not to show us ANYTHING that could give us a clue. It is his idea of a joke on the audience.
The ending was what you make it. No one ever said Tony died in the series finale or lived. A lot of people don't get that. The series finale sucked, after 7 years of this show the fans deserved visual closure.
Tony dies at the end, its why the screen went black. If you notice, each family member walks in and there's a chime from the door, when the door opens for the final time there is no chime and we dont see who walks in, only Tony does and then the screen goes black.
You wish. When the screen goes blank, the show is over. There is no life that goes on once it ends. You can speculate "what if" but the show is over. We will never know because David Chase thought it was funny.
They only hit 3 mgmt level guys, not all his 'soldiers'. I think what they alluded to with the NY guys is that its about money, if everyone is busy killing themselves.... their not earning. It takes some deductive reasoning... lol. They did show something with Carmella.... again if you paid attention. At one point she started looking at beachfront kitchens which alludes to earlier episodes where she had up ads for beachfront homes in Florida. I think the point is kind of obvious.
I thought David Chase was a genius....but now...if they do make a movie, I will be one of the people trying to get the boot leg movie out to everyone as soon as possible.....
I don't want Chase to get one more dime out of the public he so arrogantly thumbs his nose at!
Believe me I felt your pain. Getting whacked or sent to jail would have been too predictable though so I kind of like this ending, plus it opens door for movie I do agree TOO MUCH AJ!!
Completely agree. The final episode was a disappointment.(this is where people accuse me of not being a true Sopranos fan). I have no problem with the show being subtle, or challenging the viewer to put the pieces together themselves, but I thought this ending had too many possible explanations that made me feel uncertain and a little ripped off.
Fuckin kick-ass series though, and they all deserve a lot of credit.
The fact that you draw allusions to Star Wars show your complete ignorance of how this entire series has been crafted and written. What show were you watching the other 85 times it aired?
Personally I am thankful to whoever was behind this great show for giving me years of great entertainment. The last season had its weak moments, but overall the last episodes were well worth it and on focus again. The series might well have ended up with a massive slaughter, but leaving a finale open is sometimes a good option. There may be a movie coming up next after all.Don't take things so seriously is my advice; The Sopranos is over, long live The Sopranos. ;)
I had to say something about your piece of crap synopsis. There are many inaccuracies, but the most annoying is that you keep referring to Phil as Ritchie. If you are going to post a video bashing something, get the facts together first. IT makes you look ridiculous. Good try though.

You wish. When the screen goes blank, the show is over. There is no life that goes on once it ends. You can speculate "what if" but the show is over. We will never know because David Chase thought it was funny.

This video was featured on CNN, pretty cool. Anyways, I really like your arguments. Good job.

Featured on CNN? Where? I can't believe I got Phil's name wrong.

I completely agree!!! Can't be any better...
I thought David Chase was a genius....but now...if they do make a movie, I will be one of the people trying to get the boot leg movie out to everyone as soon as possible.....
I don't want Chase to get one more dime out of the public he so arrogantly thumbs his nose at!

After reading a lot of fan interpretations, I tend to agree with the "audience was whacked" theory.

Believe me I felt your pain. Getting whacked or sent to jail would have been too predictable though so I kind of like this ending, plus it opens door for movie I do agree TOO MUCH AJ!!

I agree...it sucked. It reminded me of the ending from the movie "Contact" with Jodie Foster. AAAAGGHHH!!!!!!

Great speaking..... your arguments are OK but i like the open ending, where are whacked but the suspense life of the familie just continues.

The final episode sucked! Thanks for speaking your mind!

Personally I am thankful to whoever was behind this great show for giving me years of great entertainment. The last season had its weak moments, but overall the last episodes were well worth it and on focus again. The series might well have ended up with a massive slaughter, but leaving a finale open is sometimes a good option. There may be a movie coming up next after all.Don't take things so seriously is my advice; The Sopranos is over, long live The Sopranos. ;)

You could be an extra in The Sopranos. You're hilarious. Love your passion.

richie? don't you mean phil leotardo?

Yes, I meant PHIL. A dumb mistake.

Phil, not Richie...

I had to say something about your piece of crap synopsis. There are many inaccuracies, but the most annoying is that you keep referring to Phil as Ritchie. If you are going to post a video bashing something, get the facts together first. IT makes you look ridiculous. Good try though.

Yeah, that was a major screw up! It ruins the entire video. I agree. That's why I am not producing TV. I don't know what I was thinking.

Wow, are you perfect? Sheesh, I would love to meet someone whose NEVER screwed up in front of people before.
