haha alot of questions here,, but,, Can the netbook actually manage Backtrack//all the tools, like wireshark, metasploit ect? im thankfull for an answer.
Well, I have them both, with Vmware and hard disk install (a triboot of Windows, Ubuntu and Backtrack 4 R1 really). You dont have to do all this sh*t with Backtrack 4 because it has a simple installation GUI similar to Ubuntu. Just make a free memory partition with the Windows tools (right click "computer" in Vista or 7, then "manage" , "disk management" ) to make sure you won't to ovewrite somethng. Download Backtrack 4, boot from cd, choose first option (the splash screen will show up)....\/
...continue from above.....type "startx" (if "screen no found" shows up type "fix-vesa" then "startx"). Then click the "install.sh" icon, for edit partition choose "manual" and install Backtrack in the free memory partition (make sure you make a small "swap area partition").
nice tutorial u guided us well, but can u please care to explain what each of the line does? because i'm not interested in executing any command before completely understanding what it does.
Okay, I have Back Track 4 and my OS isn't really a GUI... it's like a DOS or some shit. It's stupid, I don't have a taskbar, just a command line. What do I do???
@yeroc1337 If you can't navigate a command line you really have no business using Backtrack. This is a specialized Linux OS for penetration testing, not for someone who just wants to get their neighbor's router password and pretend to know what they're doing to impress their friends.
@tothstevenj I would highly recommend you leave me alone and mind your own business. This is obviously a tutorial for beginners, I can navigate a command line, and I don't need BackTrack to get my neighbor's router password, that's completely useless to me. I don't share my skills with my friends. This is my business and I was asking assistance of the creator of this video, so stop trying to act like you know everything, and mind your own business.
Ahh god Windows 7 I guess already makes 2 partitions however it really shows I have 3 partitions already and I don't have a hda I have sda for the devices but no hda im have to look for a video on installing it for Windows Vista/7 I guess XD
nevermind the easy fix was to just delete all the partition and remake them silly netbook and the way Gateway made the partitions should work thou I lost my Windows partition sadly so I have to reinstall now.
What sucks is I went into the Terminal on Backtrack3 did the mount I see no hda or anything im trying to install it on a netbook from a USB External Drive.
try using the qtparted to expand the xp, but most likely there will be three new partitions right in front of it, so you might have to delete the backtrack installation if theres no extra room.
I don't know if Linux has compatibility issues with certain mice because it can't use the Windows drivers.... That might be the problem, what mouse do you have?
I am trying to do this on Windows 7, and the SOB already is eating up two partitions. So I wont be able to have three partitions for BT3, which ones should I create? I am thinking a boot partition and a data partition (and leave swap on the data partition)? Tks, in return, tits...
@Amchoum30 He's not actually installing it to the whole computer, he's using a utility called "VMWare" its sort of like a computer within a computer so while running his regular OS he's capturing only the part of his desktop where the VMWare window is open.
omg ty for this... huge help! can you plz help me with my backtrack internet problems, i have ds=l wired interent and it dont go on back track!!! pitsco!

And it Never work. backtrack is a waste of space and time for it to never work..

in this video he has 1 drive allready
so he started from 2
if you have 3 partion allready
you select 'e' instead of 'p'
which mean you going to make extended partion , enter at first cylender and second cylender
next create primary number 5 then 6, 7
as you wish
roshandeal 2 years ago

Put it on a pen drive or on a shared partition then simply copy and paste it to the backtrack desktop.
