  • @Amchoum30 that coz he is using virtual station, though i like da clearlty about explanation of this guy

  • haha alot of questions here,, but,, Can the netbook actually manage Backtrack//all the tools, like wireshark, metasploit ect? im thankfull for an answer.

  • will this work for bt 5. thanks

  • when i get to chroot /mnt/backtrack3/ /bin/bash it says file or directory not found

  • Will this affect the Data on the previously installed OS?

  • Good job, but surely there's a simpler way?

  • damn, seems complicated

  • Well, I have them both, with Vmware and hard disk install (a triboot of Windows, Ubuntu and Backtrack 4 R1 really). You dont have to do all this sh*t with Backtrack 4 because it has a simple installation GUI similar to Ubuntu. Just make a free memory partition with the Windows tools (right click "computer" in Vista or 7, then "manage" , "disk management" ) to make sure you won't to ovewrite somethng. Download Backtrack 4, boot from cd, choose first option (the splash screen will show up)....\/

  • ...continue from above.....type "startx" (if "screen no found" shows up type "fix-vesa" then "startx"). Then click the "install.sh" icon, for edit partition choose "manual" and install Backtrack in the free memory partition (make sure you make a small "swap area partition").

    ...partition,partition,partition lol :)

  • did that work for backtrack 4 the same way as shown in the video ?

  • nice tutorial u guided us well, but can u please care to explain what each of the line does? because i'm not interested in executing any command before completely understanding what it does.

  • so basically you cant install backtrack without vmware or similar programs.

so basically backtrack is not free??

  • @PreApproved1 nope VirtualBox

  • @alewisgb ...and yes i was wrong, its freeware

  • can someone help me out i keep getting this message. what the heck does this mean.

    NO DHCPOFFERS received

NO working leases in persistent datebase - sleeping.

  • holy shit!!!! your voice is so dam funny!!!

  • I have problem with qtparted, don't work :X

  • how do i remove it because it removed my normal windows boot with grub

  • you're just lying

    You 're using VMWARE Workstation

it doesn't work (dual boot) without it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @serty1987 are you and idiot!?!? Of course it does!! Two of my machines have it dual booted and I have done it several times for friends

  • @serty1987 is this true?? your using vmware?

  • Okay, I have Back Track 4 and my OS isn't really a GUI... it's like a DOS or some shit. It's stupid, I don't have a taskbar, just a command line. What do I do???

  • @yeroc1337 just type startx in the sommand line

  • @yeroc1337 If you can't navigate a command line you really have no business using Backtrack. This is a specialized Linux OS for penetration testing, not for someone who just wants to get their neighbor's router password and pretend to know what they're doing to impress their friends.

  • @tothstevenj I would highly recommend you leave me alone and mind your own business. This is obviously a tutorial for beginners, I can navigate a command line, and I don't need BackTrack to get my neighbor's router password, that's completely useless to me. I don't share my skills with my friends. This is my business and I was asking assistance of the creator of this video, so stop trying to act like you know everything, and mind your own business.

  • @yeroc1337 i hope you figred i out already but if you type in startx into the command lined window it will start the gui.

  • WifiScanner-1.0.2a i'm getting an error help!!

  • kamma

  • will this work using the usb instead of the live cd?

want to install it in a laptop of mine w/o a cd drive..

  • good looking it worked

  • Ahh god Windows 7 I guess already makes 2 partitions however it really shows I have 3 partitions already and I don't have a hda I have sda for the devices but no hda im have to look for a video on installing it for Windows Vista/7 I guess XD

  • in this video he has 1 drive allready

    so he started from 2

if you have 3 partion allready

you select 'e' instead of 'p'

which mean you going to make extended partion , enter at first cylender and second cylender

next create primary number 5 then 6, 7

    as you wish

  • dont worry about hda

    gohead with SDA

  • nevermind the easy fix was to just delete all the partition and remake them silly netbook and the way Gateway made the partitions should work thou I lost my Windows partition sadly so I have to reinstall now.

  • hello friend

if u have two drive allready

u should start from partion number 3

    then 4

make sure 4 shoul be extended

    take remaing space

    then create primary 5

    primary 6

    as you wish

  • What sucks is I went into the Terminal on Backtrack3 did the mount I see no hda or anything im trying to install it on a netbook from a USB External Drive.

    all I have is:

    /dev/sda1 on /mnt/sda1

    /dev/sda2 on /mnt/sda2

    /dev/sbd1 on /mnt/sbd1

    Any Ideals?

  • great vid, helped me a lot

    thanks

  • In the first place i thought it didn't work for me, because I had some problems with the partision par.

When I readed some other stuff I found out that I had to replace the hda that you use by sda. XD

    But thanks great video =)

  • i have a 60gb hard drive 49gb free i put 15gb for xp and now i have onley 2.18gb free on xp how can i get more free space for my xp?

  • try using the qtparted to expand the xp, but most likely there will be three new partitions right in front of it, so you might have to delete the backtrack installation if theres no extra room.

  • control what at 8:29 repepose fast as u can

  • control o

  • great tutorial finally after months of searching i find this video thanks rated 5 stars keep making more.

  • i couldn't pass the step " umount/mnt/hda1.

  • it might be sda you have to look at whatever it says after the mount command, and you are also missing a space between umount /mnt

  • i have a question. I downloaded wordlist file to my pc already but how i load it in backtrack?

  • Put it on a pen drive or on a shared partition then simply copy and paste it to the backtrack desktop.

  • will this tutorial work for back track 4 installation?

  • Help! Lilo.conf is completely blank when it comes up! I'm running a toughbook cf-28 with xp installed what's wrong?

  • make sure you have the right directory and command;

    "nano /etc/lilo.conf"

  • this is awesome! im gonna donate any amount of money ASAP!

  • i want to try backtrack 4 i have 3 for the moment , but i hear that backtrack 4 is much faster .

  • boot crack!!!

  • qtparted cannot connect to X server!!!!!!! Help. :(

  • i have a probelm. when i get it all up and working, i have no mouse control any fix to this?

  • I don't know if Linux has compatibility issues with certain mice because it can't use the Windows drivers.... That might be the problem, what mouse do you have?

  • Never mind that, I just saw that your post was 3 months ago, so I would guess that you either fixed the problem or uninstalled BT.

  • very awesome! I subbed because all your tuts are nice and clear and easy to follow!

  • I am trying to do this on Windows 7, and the SOB already is eating up two partitions. So I wont be able to have three partitions for BT3, which ones should I create? I am thinking a boot partition and a data partition (and leave swap on the data partition)? Tks, in return, tits...

  • Great video, lots of steps, but everything very clear...

    here is 5 bucks

  • how come when i boot mine from cd it dosent ask me to login? i just put startx and it starts?

also when i lock the account... it dosent ask for password?

  • These videos are awesome!

Your voice is easy to understand and the video is clear!

I have one question, what do use for the video capture in the tutorials?

    Thanx

  • what if i cant find my hdd when i type in mount? what should i do?

    Thank you.

  • Favorited, rated 5 stars and subscribed! :)

  • amazing vid he is very professional

  • what screen capture did you use?

  • I think he uses camtasia studio as i've seen in his other vids

  • when you do all this how can you mount your xp partition so that you have all permissions trough backtrack ?

  • Why is there a vmware logo in the vid you running all that on a virtual machine

  • how do you think he run a software wich can capture a screen ?? :)

    Good Work Kivi

  • @Amchoum30 He's not actually installing it to the whole computer, he's using a utility called "VMWare" its sort of like a computer within a computer so while running his regular OS he's capturing only the part of his desktop where the VMWare window is open.
