I feed the wild squirrels. I also stop to assist with any accidents on the roadside. I move deceased ones to a place of safety for predators. Survivors are taken to the local wildlife rahab vet clinic.
We have three in our backyard that fight over the corn and nuts I put out in the winter. The chipmunks are a riot as they get a running start to race past the squirrels to steal food from their piles.
I have 3 grays now and I love them so much! Your page makes me laugh so hard, they are adorable! Mine are too wild to handle as I stopped holding them (so sad) after they weaned. Mine are in a 6 foot cage in a room in my home and will be released this spring. I already dread the thought of spring! Thank you, fellow squirrel lover!!!
Can I just ask? Did you keep them once they were fully grown or release them? They're both very cute btw! I has laughing so much because you talk to them just like I talk to my cat! :)
They were both released. Because they were late kittens I couldn't release them as winter was fast approaching and they'd had no time to store their winter food - also they were too tame and needed time to 'wild up'. So I built a pen in someone else's garden in an area where there were visiting wild red squirrels and they over-wintered there are were released in the following April. That was 2 years ago and they still visit that garden along with other wild ones.
