An excelent idea. You should know what you are getting yourself into. I have been a CNA for almost 7 years, and am currently going to school to be an RN. It may have taken me a long time to go back to school, but I thank god for every hardship I endured as a CNA. I believe the experience I have as a nurse aide will make a better nurse, for both my patients and my CNAs.
I am actually going to become a CNA while in school for nursing..I get they don't get paid much BUT think about it. You don't have a college degree only a certificate? Do you expect to be making butt loads of money? You can always go back to school. It's common sense, with a higher education you make more money and have better opportunities. And if you're in it for the money that was your first problem..Your heart needs to be in it.
Dude you need to move the hell out of Tennessee. My girl makes 17hr at Banner hospital in Mesa, AZ. She has only been a CNA for 2 years. She also does Monitor Tech and Unit Secretary. I do agree with you that CNA'S don't get paid nearly enough of what your worth. I guess it really depends on location and place of employment. Good luck and keep up the good work.
I work as a PCT at a local hospital in Atlanta GA. I am also a CNA . I can not beleive the pay we get. My pay is not much more than what was mentioned in this video. Not only is our work important but is is also very hard!! I wish somehow we could get more money for the work we do. This really makes me not like my job, which doesn't make sense, I like what I do but I don't like the pay! What can we do? Nothing!
Yea I can't wait until I'm finished with college so I can get out of this shit, at my job we are so short on staff that recently I've had to work on my own caring for 20 people. It's bullshit. Cna is a joke.
Being a CNA simply sucks! I dont recommend it to anyone! Low pay, draconian life with bitchy nurses, etc. If your thinking about getting into the health field simply avoid (at all cost) CNA or LVN status. Get your education (go into debt) and become an RN (better pay, boss CNA's around, complain about each other).
I was thinking about getting my CNA liscense because I'm already working with children and adults with special needs so I thought it would be good to beef up my resume. But with the pay it sounds like its not even worth it.
I worked as a CNA and I have 18 to 19 patients every night and I only get paid $9.50 per hour. I just hope that the government will do something about it. We worked hard but they don't appreciate us. Now, I am planning to go back to school for LVN or RN.
i think they get paod low because there at the bottom of the food chain.you can go to school and become an RN..while the trash man just stays the same im not saying they do it to make it fair for the trash man because that would be retarted.thats just how they played it.i worked on landscaping for my whole time i was in high school $11 an 5 hours a day 3 days a week until the 12th grade im about to graduate this year an i would have rather had a job that i could use on a resume. self employed.
oh man im actiolly starting the CNA program spring 2011, i am sacrificing alot of things such as my scholarship being on hold for 1 semester since i need to focus in the CNA program and healthcare certifications class. it is adviced for me that i should not over load myself from having a full time schedule at a regular college while volunteering for my scholarship.. so i guess it would hurt right? but overall im excited :)
I enjoyed your video -- very informative. I have a part-time job at a nursing home (not as a CNA), and old age is not pretty! Best wishes to you; I truly hope you continue your education and excel.
@deathdealer112233445 ---yes but still people need to find out some way to pay shit ---people cant pay off on damn income the Cna makes and they needs to be paid at least $12-13 or so just as much as a LPN or so does
No, you dont understand! People got bills to pay, and to hold a roof over their head. Where do you live? Under a rock I suppose. So it's not ONLY just about the care! I work as a CNA and I bust my ass all the time!! Sometimes, I have to pee so bad but I cant go right away because I have a million things to do. The pay where I work is decent but it could be more.
Wow sounds like the Canadian health care is not too bad right about now. I am a CNA here in Alberta Canada. I had to go to school for a year. We have a girl from Buffalo, New York here and she is blown away. She was a CNA down in the states. She said CNA's here are like what LPN's were in the States. I just started in Feb of 2010 and I make $19 to start then $5/ hour premium for nights so that brings me to $24, weekends add another $3/hour so now that is $27. If called in on day off it's $36.50.
I'll be a CNA next year, but I'll be 18yrs old and it's a temporary thing while I go to college to get to a higher nursing job, either an associates degree or Bachelor's degree :)
You are so right! I think the only way CNAs can improve pay is to form a union and protest for it but it's almost like there isn't enough of us at a local level. Healthcare in the US is a mess
I must be one of the lucky few, the place i work at is a 5-star establishment so i get 5-7 people to take care of, with 7 being max. We focus a lot on patient care and i have enjoyed my job way more than i thought i would have. I have now been working 3 months as PRN making $14 an hour, with shift differential i sometimes get 16$ on weekends and holidays me pay double of my regular 14$. I usually get 32 hours a week.
Fuck yeah, i get 10 people on my assignment just like EVERY OTHER aid. i'm 18, a male, and just graduated high school and only making 9.50 an hour, theyre robbing the shit out of me, i get the most strenuous assignment of residents beasue im the strongest. its bullshit
I agree, Im a CNA in Illinois and I make 10. per hour. It's bad that u have to do all of that strenous work for such a small amount of money and if u want to make some extra money u have to do doubles and damn near kill urself. It's a shame
