I don't really hear it, but this is based in LA, which has a large Hispanic population, so that may have an influence. From my own experience it's not uncommon for Asian Americans (myself included) to adopt speech cues from fellow minority groups that they may be exposed to. Like over here in NYC it's common to hear Asian Americans speak with what may sound like Black American vernacular speech patterns and urban "accents." Just a fun and interesting thing to notice
