Is it just me or does this aircraft have the side profile of a JF-17 and the wings of a French Mirage 2000? It's still a small aircraft which means a small payload compared to an F-15, 16, 18, Rafale, Typhoon II, Mirage 2000, SU-27, J-10, Gripen and even JF-17. For such a long development, at great cost, a much more capable aircraft would have been expected and already in squadron service. And this final one still need a new engine to become fully operational as fighter aircraft.
The capability and the prowess of the indegenous production has gone up by leap and bounds ! BTW the Tejas is among the top 4.5 gen aircrafts of the world , if u guys neva knew it ! Unlike the chinks , we dint copy , and unlike the Porkis , we dint beg nything ! The LCA is goin to help in AMCA devlopment , as it has taught us many a lessons in aircraft making . LCA is better than most of it's adversaries , i wud love the day wen the LCA is tried and tested and emerges out as the winner !
LCA - Still long time from being inducted into service.but indians like to brag about making 5th generation plane when they can't even finish 3rd generation completely! The famous LCA is cruising towards crossing the milestone of 200 flights but the IAF is worried the much-hyped fighter will again fail to meet the already revised deadlines.

India has become such a country, whose every indigenous project ended in failure with the waste of thousands of failed hours. Now india has inducted LCA in IAF in hurry even with its limited capability and defects just to save its FACE.
IAF has decide to induct 20 LCAs by 2017 with limited capability even lower then MiG21. India is repeating the same story of arjun and Murat.
LCA has some major problems even after its induction, the most important one being a lack of thrust; the test flights have only reached M1.4 and 4Gs, not exactly impressive for a multi-role fighter. The Indians don´t know which engine to fit in the LCA since their "indigenous" Kaveri-engine is years from working, if it will work at all.
Int. Jet-engine companies are trying to fix it, but it seems to be at a dead end. Any new engine they choose will require major redesign of the fuselage.
tejas basically fuselage air frame wise very good question about 1 kaveri turbofan 2 radar system 3 payload and night time flying capabilties ? but Indan research is very good matter of time it will improve with out to much out side borrowing thats true. @shumayelahmed get your basics right u paki. its going to replace mig21's in IAF. HAL has introduced may advanced computer systems in final version of LCA which makes it 4.5 gen. No fighter plane is 4.5 gen without advanced flight computer systems (remember india has AWACS).

In IAF there is a divide on LCA. Some want to turn the LCA into a advanced jet trainer due to its failure as multirole fighter, others are still convinced that it could be a success and some want to produce despite its drawbacks and just use it as a point defense fighter like the F-5 Freedom Fighter or the MiG-21 (which it is suppose to replace). Now that would be a achievement, producing a 1960´s MiG-21 kind of fighter in 2015.
ADA has taken v.long to develop the LCA. A 25years lead time to develop a fighter aircraft is unrealistic.IAF was never enthusiastic about inducting LCA.The aircraft's combat performance was dismal and so was its weapon load and Engine problem.Its high pressure hydraulic system was prone to frequent failures and its engine & a fly-by-wire system has serious defects. During its prototype tests the LCA prototypes were grounded for many months on many occasions.It has failed in many flight tests.

Induction of LCA in IAF faces delays due to following problems.
1-Local Multi mode radar program ended in failure.
2-after completion of MMR,The integration issues of an imported radar to the aircraft needs to be resolved.
3-Integration of a complete weapons suite needs to be resolved.
4- Complete Weaponization of LCA still pending and it is not confirmed & some sources said that one prototype of LCA was blown up while firing a missile over goa.
I appreciate our engineers' hard work in bringing our own fighter to a success but there are some places where they could really show better performance: aesthetics. The fuselage could be made to look a bit leaner by slightly lengthening it, the cockpit could be made as a single piece bulbous canopy to enable better 360 degree view, the painting scheme could be the blotchy pattern used by NATO and the canopy could do some stealthy coating.
The Indians don´t know which engine to fit in the LCA since their "indigenous" Kaveri-engine is years from working, if it will work at all. Remember when in Jan.2009 after mumbai attack two SU30 entered in PAK airspace and JF-17 Locked SU30 and push them back.First Indian Govt. said that their SU30 entered in PAK airspace by mistake but as they come to know that SU30 was intercepted by JF-17 they denied all there statements.

What you have indicated is correct, they wanted higher thrust, they wanted change in some avionics which can be obsolete in the coming decade, and air intakes re configured for greater airflow. ADA actually suggested these to airforce and airforce is not thrusting on HAL because HAL is behaving as though it did it. But, yeah, these changes are in line, F414 recently selected. It makes sense to go with f414 when HAL has some knowledge on f404.
@Howard0Hughes LCA is underdevelopment from more than two decades since its conception; the LCA has yet to reach production status. Instead, it continues to perform endless flight tests and most of these tests were also failed. Difficulties with its flight controls & power plant (kaveri engine) are still there and the worst of which was the collapse of the engine during high-altitude tests.
I would say that LCA was a flawed project in its early years however due to vast spending on Indians point of view, they couldn't afford to scrap it hence the reason the project is still crippling forward today.
Kaveri will not be available as it has failed. Now Indians are inviting foreign manufacturers to submit proposals and help. No one knows as to how many more decades will pass before Kaveri becomes a reality. GE is available but for this LCA required to redesign completely.

LCA development is good. But as an Indian I think we cannot be complacent. Was it not for our foolish politicians LCA would be inducted in IAF 10 years back. But anyway we go to at least 4+ gen aircraft. Now we need to get 5+ technology ASAP. We have base technology which was the most difficult phase to pass. We need to develop our own indigenous engine . Kaveri Engine sadly is not used. It will not be easy and its very ambitious but certainly possible.

@saurabhsood84 I've read a lot of good things about the Tejas. But, I've also read that, while it's a good plane, it's incomplete. In particular, some reports indicate the current GE F404 engine isn't powerful enough to push the Tejas past Mach 1.3. The F414 engine should fix this, but it's not out yet. Kaveri appears dead in its tracks. What is the IAF going to do to solve the engine problem long term?

@raksaaa. SU30 is made in russia. Russian jets are flying coffins. Russian jets are very cheaply made, they are completely unreliable. Russian jets engines shuts down while irs air borne. Look at mig 29, mig 27 and mig 21 these useless jets are grounded most of the time.
for your information the Su30 MKI is made in India by HAL under full ToT. And it has proved to be a very reliable machine. IAF Su30 MKIs made mincemeat of USAF F15s and F16s during Cope India and Red Flag combat exercises. The only a/c that can challenge and I would even say beat the Su 30 MKI is the F 22 Raptor. But India is working with Russia for the Su T50 FGFA "Raptorski" (raptor-killer).
If india cant produce Teja in active service then Buy FA18 Super Hornets. Hornets is long ranged fighter jet compared withn teja. hornet is also very heavily armed. GOOKS ( china ) will get a big surpise if they want to take on FA18 Super Hornets with their shiity SU 27 and SU29 and even SU30.

air intakes are designed for each aircraft based on the required air inflow to the engine in use. There is no difference with older air intake or newer air intake models. wat matters more is the ability to hide engine exhaust and blades from the forward section of the aircraft, so that it don't get exposed to radar of enemy aircraft, as that si strong radar section. LCA got Y shaped duct air intake which hides engine blades being exposed in front cross section.
air intakes are designed according to the require volume of air inflow for the particular engines. your so called old design or new design doesn't matter, wat matters most is the ability to hide the engine exhaust heat and turbines blades from direct frontal cross section of the aircraft, in a way it cannot be detected my enemy aircraft, as it is a strong radar cross section. LCA has Y duct shape air intake design so it naturally hides engine blades.
if u want to make some cheap allegations, by looking at outer beauty, I am sorry I cant help you. do some research and learn something before u make any arguments here.

Is it just me or does this aircraft have the side profile of a JF-17 and the wings of a French Mirage 2000? It's still a small aircraft which means a small payload compared to an F-15, 16, 18, Rafale, Typhoon II, Mirage 2000, SU-27, J-10, Gripen and even JF-17. For such a long development, at great cost, a much more capable aircraft would have been expected and already in squadron service. And this final one still need a new engine to become fully operational as fighter aircraft.

LCA is almost a failed project.
India has become such a country, whose every indigenous project ended in failure with the waste of thousands of failed hours. Now india has inducted LCA in IAF in hurry even with its limited capability and defects just to save its FACE.
IAF has decide to induct 20 LCAs by 2017 with limited capability even lower then MiG21. India is repeating the same story of arjun and Murat.

LCA has some major problems even after its induction, the most important one being a lack of thrust; the test flights have only reached M1.4 and 4Gs, not exactly impressive for a multi-role fighter. The Indians don´t know which engine to fit in the LCA since their "indigenous" Kaveri-engine is years from working, if it will work at all.
Int. Jet-engine companies are trying to fix it, but it seems to be at a dead end. Any new engine they choose will require major redesign of the fuselage.

In IAF there is a divide on LCA. Some want to turn the LCA into a advanced jet trainer due to its failure as multirole fighter, others are still convinced that it could be a success and some want to produce despite its drawbacks and just use it as a point defense fighter like the F-5 Freedom Fighter or the MiG-21 (which it is suppose to replace). Now that would be a achievement, producing a 1960´s MiG-21 kind of fighter in 2015.

ADA has taken v.long to develop the LCA. A 25years lead time to develop a fighter aircraft is unrealistic.IAF was never enthusiastic about inducting LCA.The aircraft's combat performance was dismal and so was its weapon load and Engine problem.Its high pressure hydraulic system was prone to frequent failures and its engine & a fly-by-wire system has serious defects. During its prototype tests the LCA prototypes were grounded for many months on many occasions.It has failed in many flight tests.

Induction of LCA in IAF faces delays due to following problems.
1-Local Multi mode radar program ended in failure.
2-after completion of MMR,The integration issues of an imported radar to the aircraft needs to be resolved.
3-Integration of a complete weapons suite needs to be resolved.
4- Complete Weaponization of LCA still pending and it is not confirmed & some sources said that one prototype of LCA was blown up while firing a missile over goa.

I appreciate our engineers' hard work in bringing our own fighter to a success but there are some places where they could really show better performance: aesthetics. The fuselage could be made to look a bit leaner by slightly lengthening it, the cockpit could be made as a single piece bulbous canopy to enable better 360 degree view, the painting scheme could be the blotchy pattern used by NATO and the canopy could do some stealthy coating.

The Indians don´t know which engine to fit in the LCA since their "indigenous" Kaveri-engine is years from working, if it will work at all. Jet-engine companies from both Russia and France have trying to fix it, but it seems to be at a dead end.Any new engine they choose will require major redesign of the fuselage, thats a few more years of delays. If the LCA ever becomes operational, lets be optimistic and say 2015, it will however be hopelessly out of date.

What you have indicated is correct, they wanted higher thrust, they wanted change in some avionics which can be obsolete in the coming decade, and air intakes re configured for greater airflow. ADA actually suggested these to airforce and airforce is not thrusting on HAL because HAL is behaving as though it did it. But, yeah, these changes are in line, F414 recently selected. It makes sense to go with f414 when HAL has some knowledge on f404.

Instead, it continues to perform endless flight tests and most of these tests were also failed. Difficulties with its flight controls & power plant (kaveri engine) are still there and the worst of which was the collapse of the engine during high-altitude tests.

I would say that LCA was a flawed project in its early years however due to vast spending on Indians point of view, they couldn't afford to scrap it hence the reason the project is still crippling forward today.
Kaveri will not be available as it has failed. Now Indians are inviting foreign manufacturers to submit proposals and help. No one knows as to how many more decades will pass before Kaveri becomes a reality. GE is available but for this LCA required to redesign completely.

The Tejas has yet to reach production status.Instead, it continues to perform endless flight tests and most of those are failed. LCA will be outdated by the time it comes out in full production and India induct it into the services completely by 2015. Actually its already outdated. What a waste of time and money. I can’t figure out India when it comes to projects like Arjun and LCA. The Arjun-project started in 1972 and now almost 40 years later all they have to show for are prototypes, same story with LCA.

LCA - the world's Famous LAST CHANCE AIRCRAFT becoz
1. LCA cant even pull more than 17 degrees AOA meaning it has a limited angle of attack JF-17 can pull the same amount as a F-16.
2. LCA isn't even for all weathers recently in an airshow in India in 2009 LCA wasn't able to take off in rain.
3. Its too costly meaning its no longer a replacement for ur flying coffins.
4. It has been 27 years and u only have produced 6 prrototypes (the longest aviation project in history).

6. Its also got thrust problems.
7. Its 1.5 tones more heavier than planned.
8. LCA at present is only pulling 8 Gs and IAF's requirement is atleast 9 GS.
9. Because of engine and thrust problems it cant even carry full load of weapons.
10. LCA needs new engine means the whole plane is require to redesign.
All these facts are stated on "Indian Ministry of Defence".

LCA development is good. But as an Indian I think we cannot be complacent. Was it not for our foolish politicians LCA would be inducted in IAF 10 years back. But anyway we go to at least 4+ gen aircraft. Now we need to get 5+ technology ASAP. We have base technology which was the most difficult phase to pass. We need to develop our own indigenous engine . Kaveri Engine sadly is not used. It will not be easy and its very ambitious but certainly possible.

@saurabhsood84 I've read a lot of good things about the Tejas. But, I've also read that, while it's a good plane, it's incomplete. In particular, some reports indicate the current GE F404 engine isn't powerful enough to push the Tejas past Mach 1.3. The F414 engine should fix this, but it's not out yet. Kaveri appears dead in its tracks. What is the IAF going to do to solve the engine problem long term?

@raksaaa. SU30 is made in russia. Russian jets are flying coffins. Russian jets are very cheaply made, they are completely unreliable. Russian jets engines shuts down while irs air borne. Look at mig 29, mig 27 and mig 21 these useless jets are grounded most of the time.

for your information the Su30 MKI is made in India by HAL under full ToT. And it has proved to be a very reliable machine. IAF Su30 MKIs made mincemeat of USAF F15s and F16s during Cope India and Red Flag combat exercises. The only a/c that can challenge and I would even say beat the Su 30 MKI is the F 22 Raptor. But India is working with Russia for the Su T50 FGFA "Raptorski" (raptor-killer).

air intakes are designed for each aircraft based on the required air inflow to the engine in use. There is no difference with older air intake or newer air intake models. wat matters more is the ability to hide engine exhaust and blades from the forward section of the aircraft, so that it don't get exposed to radar of enemy aircraft, as that si strong radar section. LCA got Y shaped duct air intake which hides engine blades being exposed in front cross section.

air intakes are designed according to the require volume of air inflow for the particular engines. your so called old design or new design doesn't matter, wat matters most is the ability to hide the engine exhaust heat and turbines blades from direct frontal cross section of the aircraft, in a way it cannot be detected my enemy aircraft, as it is a strong radar cross section. LCA has Y duct shape air intake design so it naturally hides engine blades.
