@chikunejowdo I disagree with you on two terms. Taekwondo does has an emphasis on kicks but there are hand techniques (knife hands, ridge hands, elbows, etc.) in TRADITIONAL TKD. Before the politics, before the Olympics, before the different organizations. Secondly, have you ever hit wood that's almost an inch thick full of knots? Traditionally, boards are to demonstrate correct technique over brute force so students didn't have to hurt their sparring partners. Never to prove how strong you are.

@hacchichu oh i agrere tottaly with traditional tkd, but how many people still train the old ways? it the same with kung fu, everybody wants wushu now, why? cuase its "flashy" people today really dont know or understand what good real martial arts is, they think jumping around is good.flashy kicks, or acrobatics. as for the boards sorry i have never meet a karate/TKD teacher who hasn't got messed up hands or arthritis from years of hitting boards.IT is pointless,

I agree with you! Board breaking has its own philosophy and is another debate in itself. You cut the material, you hold it correctly, you break it, you discard it respectively. Also over the years you learn body mechanics and if you simply can't break it, replace it with new wood. It depends where you are and who you see but from my experience as long as you are aware of what you're doing; it shouldn't be a problem.
