Ok, I like Joy Division (sometimes), and I like Fall Out Boy (pretty much all the time). There is nothing whatsoever wrong with this cover. The idea of a cover is that you play a song that has some sort of meaning for you, whether it's the same meaning as the original artist or not, and you interpret the existing music to reflect your personal views on the subject. You can't do a cover wrong so long as it still sounds decent.. Which this does. I personally enjoy Patrick's voice more than Ian's.

There are a number of things that make this a terrible cover. The original was full of emotions and anguish that culminated in the suicide of the band's frontman (and writer of these lyrics). There is none of that emotion in this version. It's almost as though Fallout Boy turned this into a happy pop-punk anthem, and it absolutely destroys the song.

Can anybody explain to me why everybody hates this cover? I personally love it! And compared with the original - to my ears, although one is actually bleeding right now (not from music, and it was completely unnecessary to share that with you but there you go) it sounds better - vocally. Patrick Stump is a fabulous singer in my opinion, but we all have different views. Great cover, FOB!

Ok, I like Joy Division (sometimes), and I like Fall Out Boy (pretty much all the time). There is nothing whatsoever wrong with this cover. The idea of a cover is that you play a song that has some sort of meaning for you, whether it's the same meaning as the original artist or not, and you interpret the existing music to reflect your personal views on the subject. You can't do a cover wrong so long as it still sounds decent.. Which this does. I personally enjoy Patrick's voice more than Ian's.

Personally I hate this version of the song. I really don't think they've captured the darkness of the track at all... The song strikes such an emotional chord and really portrayed a hard time in Ian Curtis's life... I love FOB, but I do not think they've done this song anything near justice. And I don't care if I sound like I'm getting on my high horse or defining what you should like. JOY DIVISION ARE BRILLIANT, and if you like FOB you should see how much they influenced them.

There are a number of things that make this a terrible cover. The original was full of emotions and anguish that culminated in the suicide of the band's frontman (and writer of these lyrics). There is none of that emotion in this version. It's almost as though Fallout Boy turned this into a happy pop-punk anthem, and it absolutely destroys the song.
