Hi, nice video btw, I have created a concrete guitar, if you have chance please visit my channel, I'm conducting a sound comparison test between my concrete guitar and a solid bodied wooden guitar, and would appreciate as much feedback as possible. Thanks!
I have access to a cnc machine, but I've chosen to make my own template instead of just buying one or using a cnc. Buying a template or cncing isn't really making a guitar in my opinion.
@StreetxLights I found a website that had warlock templates as well as the mockingbird! I just can't remember where. searching my 'history' turned up nothing! sorry I wish I could be of more help. It DOES exist, try google.
Good, and actual expert because I have a question as somebody wanting to get into guitar building(hope you don't think this is stupid). On an electric guitar, does the material used to make the body have a significant effect on the tone.
I had a friend make one using a cow skull and it sounded good to me(at the time I was a beginner guitarist though).
@bobthedistroyer Well, if I ever successfully make one I will be sure to demonstrate it here on my channel and you'll be the first to know about it xD
So you can watch just the segment that tells the part of the process you need. It seems that several of the segments for guitar building show options (like the whammy bar), or things that might not be needed by someone who already has their tools, or already has already selected the wood, style of guitar, etc.
His name is Frank Pope, founder of FBI Guitars, has been playing guitar for more than 30 years. He's been building them for more than 10 years, & has constructed more than 30 finished products to date. He currently builds guitars for a small, closed group of artists.
Check their website. it says there that his name is Frank Pope. now all stfu about it
Thats a very simple way of doing things, but personally I dont like the standard scales of pre-patterned templates. My flying V has a scale length of 26", which is easy to do if you've read Melvin Hiscox's book
You from PG? i recognize that name. But what i want to know, is what the BODY templates have to do with scale? You can always make the neck fit the body with a different scale.
almost everyone will tell you that fitting the neck to the body is the hard way, lol. Its general practice to have a neck first so you can plan the location of the bridge AFTER you've cut the neck pocket. Pre cut templates assume youre building to a specific scale length and give you a pre measured location for the bridge, which is fine, but as I said, mine has 26" which means the bridge has to be in a completely different place.
Well, thats what i meant. i just said it backwards. If your using a longer scale, you can still use the same templates, even if the template is for a different scale. You can rout your neck pocket, then just move the template up or down to accomadate for the bridge position. I have done that with over 20 guitars.
If you go to the template website you can see high res photos of guitars built with them as well as a pic tutorial of carving a top with a router. I have no connection to them other than use of their products.
Frank, do you know if there is something with the Template Website? I don't know if you have anything to do with that site, but it is offline, best I can tell.
