Oh dear god! I've recently become a big fan of The Beach Boys but This AIN'T The Beach Boys! Way to drag the name of a great band through the soggiest sewers ever known to man Mike Love! Well if Mike Love wanted a legacy he got it - Summer In Paradise. Not exactly a legacy anyone wants. Idiot.
@otacon17x He didn't fuck up Smile. Listen to the tracks. He sings his ass off on them and, while he questioned Brian's direction with the material, he NEVER said, "I'm not doing these songs," or refused to go along with what Brian was doing. Pet Sounds came out, did it not?
@theSuperMetroid02 No. It wasn't. Mike went along with it because he trusted Brian even though he wasn't sure if it was the right direction for the group. He didn't "kill" Smile, Brian shelved it because he couldn't finish it.
Extreme juvenille statement. We all know Mike has his assinine moments, but so do we all.
Not a Mike fan, but to see them together would be a once in a lifetime experience. I will just not be real interested in Mike on stage. My eyes will be focused on Al, Mark, and Brian!
I hate mike love. Not only did he rob the world out of Smile, one of the greatest achievements in music history, but now he's out there dragging the Beach Boys' legacy into the dirt.
I hope he gets pneumonia. I don't necessarily know what that is, but I want him to contract it.
@harrisonhedges Believe what you want. Mike Love pretty much bullied Van Dyke off of the project, and Brian stated the number one reason Smile got shelved was because Mike hated it.
@theSuperMetroid02 The Beautiful Dreamer doc is filled with inaccuracies and is extremely Brian-centric. It's an obscenely glorified take of his side of the story.
He also says in it, repeatedly, "The guys didn't like it." We know Dennis loved the fuck out of it, Carl and Bruce were diplomatic but still were floored by the music, Al and Mike have both spoken fondly of it since even if Mike has said he questioned if it was the right direction.
@SteamGrace : Congrats on your comment re that uber-jerk Mike Love. I couldn't agree with you more. Other commentators HERE are incorrect .. it WAS Love who robbed us of the 1967 version of SMILE .. not drugs. BW was musically quasi-coherent & OK, despite his ingestions .. but Love got to him emotionally .. which was always Brian's achilles heel. Another of my favourite BBs / BW expert fans has stated "there's a place in hell reserved for Love" .. I sure hope so ...
@colindominy Mike was opposed to Pet Sounds, too. It came out. Brian shelved Smile. Mike questioned direction, but SANG his fucking parts as assigned. The blind Mike hatred while blindly praising everything Brian, far from a perfect human being, ever did, is somewhat sickening.
omg! - clearly this is the baywatch edition - yikes! - Brian's a whale! Carl's alive but barely - Love's bustin' some of the worst rhymes evah! even most of the women are kinda skeevy - When? I guess I could look up when carl died and just back date a few weeks - repeat - omg!
Say what you want about Mike Love, but he is the Beach Boys!!! Whatever has happened it is brian Wilson refusing to rejoin them. And Love still puts on a great show. I was at Epsom last night and he and Bruce rocked the house down.
@policemanandrew Hey Mike, how's it going? I dont blame Brian for refusing to tour with you. You ruined the band he created in every way possible, and Brian's too good for you. You had your chance, you and the other guys could've been on par with the Beatles if you had only helped Brian release SMiLE. But you just had to fuck it up, didn't you? Well, I hope the hundred or so car/beach/surf songs you wrote since then was worth it, asshole.
@theSuperMetroid02 He didn't "fuck it up". Listen to the tracks. Mike sings his ass off on them, as does everyone else who were supposedly "against" Smile. It was Brian's decision to shelve it, the pie was too complex for his mind to properly put together. Mike questioned Pet Sounds, too, but there it was, out in 1966. No one ever mentions that.
@runnersdialzero333 : no, you're off the beam, friend .. you need to do your research in more depth .. the literature is all out there nowadays . so go look it up .. then you'll get the right angle on things ...
@BooNube : Couldn't agree more with your sentiments & comment, regarding that uber-arsehole Mike Love. You are spot-on !! It amazes me that there's actually a significant-minority of Mike Love apologists / fans out there .. like this guy runnersdialzero333, below. Maybe they're family-relatives of that horde of love-children (no pun intended ) that ML has fathered over so many years & so many failed marriages.
And just when the world thought Mike Love couldn't bring the 'Boys down any lower than a Fat Boys duet, he gives us an quasi-rap ode to Baywatch.

this video is way too tna. I mean beach boys were about girls in swimsuits but not in a overtly sexual way

@HarveyBacktheBeatles well mike was the second biggest horndog of the band so it does make sense unfortunately

This is so damn sleazy, so very Mike. I wonder how much Carl and Al enjoyed it? Somehow I don't think they would have.

So where is the show that goes with this?
Typical Mike Love mentality. Male chauvinist behavior. Stuffing a video with scantly dressed women and chanting about summer promiscuity.
I love the Beach Boys and would pay big money to see Brian or Al.
But NOT MIKE LOVE-less.
