  • BEAUTIFUL...so beautiful it moves me deeply..WOW !

  • I don't care for religion, but...wow..........

  • Really beautiful, I lose myself in the voices and almost leave my body!

  • this really forms the religion beautiful dunno about some people here but reminds me of the crusades

  • I wish our churches still kept these practices. There is no need to 'modernize' religion.

  • @ITSbigwillystyle yes you have reason..listen greek orthodox chant!!

  • Blessed is the soul who hears the Lord speaking within, who receives the word of consolation from His lips.

Blessed are the ears that catch the accents of divine whispering, and pay no heed to the murmurings of

    this world.

Blessed indeed are the ears that listen, not to the voice which sounds without, but to the truth which

    teaches within.

Wise is he to whom truth manifests it self, Not in signs and words that fade away.

Blessed is he who believes. †

  • not as good as the last concert in 2009... :D

  • not religious at all, and have no idea what they are saying considering I don't speak latin which is what I'm guessing they are singing in. I just love this though, the energy is pure love, no matter the person, or thought.

  • Beautiful!

  • I love catholic Church

  • ¡Qué hermoso canto!

  • essai

  • c est vraiment trop beau !!!

  • Beautiful.. Even the manner of stealth in which this video was taken is very charming. I wish I could have been there too.

  • I could sit in that Church for hours as long as the Chant keeps going on and on and on..

    so peaceful!

    Peace!

  • im so jealousss. they sound so beautiful.

  • the catedral is beautiful ... and so the song... the atmosphere is"t just wonderfful. love it God Bless You

  • That must have been so haunting! :)

  • I wonder if that's Latin for "Ruuuudy! Ruuuuudy!"?

  • Not a chance. This is the REAL Notre Dame, not the phoney one that promotes pro abortion leaders and staged its' own anti Rome reformation during the 1960s led by a rather dubious priest who sold his soul to the devil.

  • Anyways, it's so sad that now adays hearing Gregorian Chant is a treat. It's very sad how this part of the liturgy was changed.

  • It wan't changed (officially). Gregorian Chant still 'has pride of place.' It was the iconoclausts (i.e. the bshops who effectively abolished it. Thanks God for Benedict XVI

  • Women are allowed to sing there? Surprising for Notre Dame.

  • It's counter-tenor!

  • that's pretty rare!

  • Not so surprising; singers of the 'maitrise of Notre Dame' are mixed. For gregorian interpretation, they use alternance between male and female voices, solo and groups. Gregorian is plain chant and the real surprise would have been a polyphonic interpretation :-)

  • for what?

  • From Wikipedia: construction began in 1163.

Construction of the west front, with its distinctive two towers, began circa 1200. Over the construction period, numerous architects worked on the site (...) Between 1210 and 1220, the fourth architect oversaw the construction of the level with the rose window and the great halls beneath the towers. The towers were completed around 1245, and the cathedral was completed around 1345.

  • Thanks.

  • +~+~$

  • sounds good but why doesnt high pitch mean holy? just sing from ur soul, doesnt matter how u sing.

  • So beautiful. <3

  • the best church

  • what period is that cathedral from? that is one piece of art

  • its the notre dame cathedral in paris

  • Its from Gothic Period

  • Moyen-Âge.

    Medieval times, the crusade....

  • nice... that cathedral mustve seen pretty nasty things in the past

  • i was there, sitting in front and all i can say; c'etait tres, tres beau.

  • That would be so amazing to hear that at such an amazingly beautiful cathedral. I would be awestruck!

  • Going to searach for Castrato. I was a Choir boy who loved to sing, when my voice broke - I had a difficult time, I can Falsetto now. Something pure about a mans voice, not being mysoginistic, but the whole choral thing sounds so pure with the ranges of the male species. Women sing beautifully, they give depth were men dont, in the soprano - blah blah etc. Does anyone get my drift? Maybe two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc are clouding my expression. Thank you for posting - David x

  • Cheers ^^

  • so beautiful song

  • *beautiful

  • wow.. how beutiful and mesmerizing

  • oo! omg i now what the french says! lol im buzzin! !its very beautiful, but too short.

  • c'est très beau mais trop court, dommage qu'il y ai ces bruits de fond inévitables dans ces vidèos publiques

  • do you mean that this video shouldn't be seen in public? but it's beautiful...

  • he says its very beautiful but to short, and to bads there are sounds in these publics videos

  • 'it's beautiful, but too short; too bad that these compilations of sounds unavoidably have terminations in these public videos'

  • yep no women chanting here

  • I wonder what the lyrics are saying

  • They are making fun of all the people who don't understand Latin.

  • amazing!

  • beutiful...

  • gregorian chant can't be sung by women. This isn't gregorian chant.

  • True, Gregorian Chant is strictly for male voices, but since it is a form of prayer, anyone can prey. I am pretty sure that young men would sing an octave or two higher; I am unsure when Castratos (Sp?) came into the picture.

  • You're right. It started adopting a polyphonic sound around

the 14th century. Women and kids sang up an octave. They added pipe organ to the mix too.

  • Yup. Around that time, many people had the mindset of your initial comment, resulting in two classifications of composition: Ars Nova, honoring the style in the early 14th century and monophonism of Gregorian Chant, and Ars Subtilior ("more subtle art"), honoring new ideas that further distanced some composers from the Catholic Church. So in reality we're both right.

  • you know not what you speak. No female chanted in this.

  • It was a woman from 0 to 115

  • I stand by my previous statement; no woman is chanting this. Nor would one ever be allowed to chant, in the Halls of Notre Dame. Keep in mind where this chant takes place and the doctrine that this Cathedral upholds.

  • The beginning is so beautiful, definitely music to my ears. So peaceful and heavenly.

  • wish I was there, sounds so beautiful

  • good to see this footage, its a coincidence as on my only visit to notre dame cathedral and hearing the sopranos and choir encouraged me to start the spirit of voice festival, take a bow son!

  • I agree with you, I am surprised there can be so much hate filled comments in youtube comment sections. This was a serene presentation of gregorian chants and look at the comments they have filled the lower part of it with.

  • this is an actual mass. what great footage. i love Gregorian melodies, the tones are so pure and clean. crazy to think that the cathedral of notre dame is over 800 years old.

  • what a beautiful building. i love the music.

  • wow thats cool, it looks like this place was packed!

  • oh how I love Notre-Dame ! My favourite place in Paris and the whole world. It is so...mystical

  • sorry, wrong comment!!

  • According to a prominent American intellectual, the best way of combating terrorism is to stop participating in it.

  • Something in this voice is , this can some magic....

  • Something in this voice is , this can some magic....

  • this is so pretty....

  • Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

    Matthew 5:43:44 (KJV)

  • I attended mass when the cardinal of Paris was there and must say that is the most beautiful moment so far, for me

  • I agree all we have to do is be kind to those who want us dead or converted to a perverse way of life but not until they bring down our institutions. Bin Ladin and Gadan the American both stated that we need only convert to islam to have peace. Perhaps you will be the first as a gesture of peace after all it is such a small token?

  • in the karan it says that all non muslims are infedils and must be killed

  • all non muslims are Kuffars look at what they say about the kuffars

  • like khufu the egyptian pharaoh

  • Seriously, you should show more respect even if this is youtube. just hurling comments like that gets the whole comment section dirty, and for Gods sake this is Gregorian chants, you can listen to this and at the same time go so low is quite sad. people can only pity your ignorance.

  • It is a grave error in your part to take those examples as the ideal constants. To begin with how many muslims do you know personally? and how many have you befriended or even tried to do be so, your comment is very much a sad one under such a beautiful presentaion of gregorian chants.

  • wow, great, you take risk to film this

  • love this stuff!!!

  • The latter, I am inclined to think. Surely we can never love God enough.

  • when you go to monasteries, you will hear the monks say in their respect languages "God have mercy upon me a sinner." repetitiously because not enough people in the world say those words.

  • This is beautiful...

  • philos god is calling you please god will bless you in heaven he will give you a home and a great palace, great things await please im begging you be humble and spread gods word have faith and you will be blessed i'll be praying for you

  • This is the kind of mass I would not mind sitting through! If only mine were as unique as this one :P

  • Even having lost faith, I still enjoy gregorian songs. They have a calming effect.Peace !!

  • i am sure that if you ask for it, faith will be given.:-) it may sound simplistic, but as it is said, "for birds do not fly towards a non-existent land...and blessed are the homesick for they will find their home."

  • It's beautiful.....

  • So peaceful and the power of prayer in our lifes !

  • amigos...grandes gand phatandes...nonu hilandes...magnificat

  • Splendid!!!!!!!!!!!! -_-!!!!!!

  • Beautiful! :)

  • who's singing?

  • My dad.

  • amazing

  • If you go to Notre Dame, watch the rose window while the priests sing. Listening to the music is one thing, seeing a picture is one thing, but going to Notre Dame is another. The effect is like the Star Gate sequence in 2001: Space Odyssey, only more so. It's a totally overpowering audio/visual stimulation. It seems insane to say, what with movies/videogames, but trust me there is no drug that can compare to the otherworldliness of Notre Dame, and the center of that rose window.

  • hello, where can I this clip downleaden. thanks

  • Magnifico! Enleva a alma aos céus!

  • I would like to go to the Notre Dame. I never been there, but it looks amazing.

    I love those chants too.

  • Love gregorian chant.

  • so amazing!! have you visted since then?

  • Beautiful indeed. My thanks for posting this.

  • beautiful!! love it

  • great video. Notre Dame is incredible. It was okay to video during this?

  • Yep, there was no problem filming during - I just used my small digital camera's video option. So it was unobtrusive - it wasn't a church service, it was an evening music thing.

  • dont use the F** word here...please respect the religion..if u dont like it then dont listen 2 it...dont even bother yourself...cuz ur bothering us....

    its amazing....very nice...

  • This one is not nearly as good as some of the monastic music out there. I'm disappointed... 2/5

  • go fuck yourself. who the fuck r u to say such sort of bullshit about religion?

  • peace be with you...

  • What beauty.

  • Thanks for posting! Just what I was looking for... I was at Notre Dame right around this time -- there is nothing, NOTHING, like the ambience there at Christmas!

  • LOL! I always thought Gregorian chant was scary but this one was pretty

  • Notre Dame Gregorian Chants 12/28/06

  • That was recorded on my birthday. Thank you for sharing this video. I am a new Catholic (confirmed Easter, 2007).. I love the Gregorian Chants. They are so very centering.

  • Welcome home! Swimming the Tiber River is not easy. I was received into the Church at Easter 1996. "Adoro te devote" is my favorite chant.

  • i like it also very much! soon i'll post a video with this song!

  • I have a recording of some Belgian monks singing that is perhaps fifty years old. For some reason, it is simply the best.

  • thank you.

  • Purely from Heaven. Thank you!

  • sublime

  • Gorgeous! At my church, we have a "Chant Club" - learning to read medieval notation is great fun and not that hard!

  • nice

  • If anyone knows the hymn or chant that these beautiful choirs are singing, could you post what you believe it is here? I'm familiar with Gregorian Chant and Latin, but I just can not make out the words..even as the monks pass in front of the camera. Thanks!

  • Peaceful!

  • Gregorian Chant is my passion. I love to sing it. This has inspired me to sing more! Thank you for posting this beautiful and sacred video! What a "live" experience it appeared to be! God bless you!

  • Where can I find this on CD format. I need music for my junior project and This piece sounds especially good!

  • I love how the acoustics sound, just bouncing off the walls. I know I'm not describing it properly mainly because it's late at night but I hop eyou all know what I mean.

  • Heavenly

  • Thatis gorgious music.I'm not a big fan for rap or rock and especially gothic rockand metal,no offense.I wonder if they sing the music that gives people goosebumps.

  • That's awesome!

  • beautiful!!!

  • God-gifted voice....Can't desribe even with pics or with words....Perfect!
