they will chase you ....they are desperate to find shade in your shadow so as you run away from them they appear to chase you but its your shadow they want.....
these spiders crawl on a camels belly and then begin to eat/bite their way trough the belly of the camel until they reach the fat/blubber and intestines.
i used to have 1 that lived in my back garden, i was going to go to the corner shop on my camel, but the spider had already ate my camel..i was so upset..
They get their name because they have actually been known to grow to the size of a small camel, they form a camel style hump as well and they lose four of their legs and begin to stand erect just like a camel. They wiill even spit at you if they're in a bad mood.
that arachnids is have different size in different areas,so dont be sure about their size. trust me they became really big in desert, probably you catched just a small one.ofcourse its not man eater but a big one is really pretty scary as you wont see around.
I caught one of these in Redmond Oregon in 1983 and had no idea as to what it was. And yes, they do exist here in the western US. I kept it in a terrarium and fed it grasshoppers which were quickly ripped apart with voracious jaws with not 2, but 4 large fangs! I learned of what it was at the library, a nocturnal Solpugid or Solifugid, more kin to the scorpion than the spider. Anyway, I set it free and never saw one again.
It's called a Solpugid and is not a spider at all. They do NOT inject anasthetic venom and eat chunks of human flesh afterwards. They have NO venom. However these things do have very powerful jaws and can inflict a painful wound if taunted, and like any other open wound, can become infected if not cleaned of outer bacteria. Just another bad rap for a misunderstood creature.
I've heard about the myths of this creature, and as said, they are just myths. However, they sure as hell look like spiders. They're scary to behold, man! Just look at it! D:
well actually jewshpwns was the closest, the camel spider belongs to the solifugae order of arachnids. They are very close to spiders but are not actually spiders. Kind of like how scorpions are still arachnids but not spiders
Yep. Those fuckers can run 10 miles per hour. My uncle was in Iraq and was walking about his camp on patrol and noticed a full-grown camel spider was following him the entire time, stopping when he did and walked when he did. Don't get alarmed when they do this, they only follow you to stand in your shade. If you run, they'll run and they WILL stop when you stop. Unless, of course, you're a lizard and it's lunch time.
They aren't even SPIDERS. Your uncle was obviously a little tired and loopy from being in Iraq because they're not fast spiders, they have much better things to do than to follow people around, there were probably a lot of em. They aren't poisonous, so you shouldn't be afraid in the first place, they're just really scary looking. Even tho I am placing the facts, I would STILL run and scream like a 6 year old girl if I saw one.
I know they're not spiders, they're solpugids or something. Besides that, they do run pretty fast. Maybe not 10 mph, but they're definitely not slow. And this is what he told me. I know they aren't poisonous, in fact, they don't even have an anesthetic to numb stuff either. They just kinda eat it. But yeah, they are pretty freaking scary looking.
OMG that's the spider from the scorpion king!

Actually, they can achieve leg spans of 5 inches or more, and they are arguably the most vicious consumers of any invertebrate - I've had one.

That's not a spider; it's a camel cricket. For a great narrative about its powers, read The Red Hourglass.

I read somewhere that it's closer to a scorpion than a spider lol. I dunno though, I'm no expert :P
alchemist940 2 years ago
You read that because they inject the actual poisonous venom through their tails. The mandables don't actually inject venom.

they've also been known as wind scorpions for years and years, but then someone comes along and says "it's huge and ate my camel."XD
xJasenx 4 years ago
Most of these claims are false or greatly exaggerated.
1. Camel spiders top speed - 10 mph.
2. Size: Up to 6 inches
3. They have no venom.
4. They don't jump.
5. Called camel spiders because they live in the desert.
