  • R.I.P MY DEAR UNCLE JO! ITS LOVELY TO REMEMBER THE GOOD OLD DAYS AND THE FOND MEMORIES I HAVE OF YOU!! AS I HAVE ACCESS TO A COMP NOW AND CAN LOOK AT SOME OF THE LOVELY VIDEOS OF YOU! THE "LATE PATRICK'S DAUGHTER" PATSY... XXX

  • What a singer and storyteller. Have you ever witnessed passion and feeling like this. Absolutely

    Beautiful. Ian, West coast Scotland.

  • Never have I heard anyone sing with such passion about their home town. I sat in the quiet of my room and listened to this all the way through and spilled a few tears at the end. I remember hearing Joseph Locke on the radio when I was a child but only saw him once on the tv performing at the London Palladium in the 90's. He still had a great voice.

  • I remember seeing placards of Josef Locke outside Blackpool's South Pier in the fifties. I doubt that his stage performances then would have bettered this one. Great stuff Jo.

  • PLEASE could we have Locke's "Maire my girl" back for another week or two. It's one of his loveliest songs and although the truly kind soul who uploaded it said it was by special request there are many of us who long for it to stay awhile. Tingleykid

  • He lived here in Kingswood in the 50s. The local mammies ostracised him 'cause he was alleged to be a bit of a ladies man. RIP Joe.

    Sorcererflyer.

  • Joe a ladies man??? lol thats aputting it mildly.

Thank God his voice lives on.

I was so lucky to have met him several times.

  • I loved him singing "Count Your Blessings."

What a voice at his age!

    Miss you, Joe!!1

  • he,s ma dads favourite tenner go on !!!!!1

  • Such a powerful emotive song. A heartfelt metaphor not just for Ireland, but for places & people all over the world where traditions, values, morals & decent behaviour to others, have been usurped by the feckless unprincipled forces of so called 'progression'.

  • @hiyadroogs You have said it all, oh so well. I'm wondering how much lower we can sink.

  • @ch0okz1, How much lower can we sink? We'll soon find out if Labour gets in again! Thank you for your kind comment my friend. : )

  • Good old Joe......

  • Bless his memory - a great singer and a credit to Ireland

  • Thanks Bramptonjp for the info.He was a great talent, have you seen "Hear My Song"??

  • He sounds like there is a Northern Irish accent here, does anyone know what part of Ireland he hailed from?

  • He was from Derry (Londonderry), he was a solider in the Irish Guards and a policeman in Ulster (Northern Ireland), a POP star in the 40s/50s in England, (Ulster, Northern Ireland, Ireland) should be proud to have produced such a talent

    .

RIP Josef McLauglin, a credit to Derry and Ireland

  • @bramptonjp It's Derry! Not Londonderry!

  • Josef Locke is my great great uncle (possibly great great great uncle). He is related to my grandmother, part of the McLaughlin family. I never had the pleasure of meeting him though.

  • A great rendition, you can see the feeling put into the song. Even though he was late in his life you can can still hear the voice that made him so famous. I became a Josef Locke fan after watching the 'Hear My Song' film. I was only 13! My father told me once he had been in Josef Locke's house.

  • It's so wonderful to hear this song. The fountain pub belonged to my Grandfather, my grandmother worked in the shirt factory. My Father has wonderful memories of Derry too, they will live forever as a tribute within this song.

  • My mother also worked in the shirt factory in Derry and she told me that Josef's sister worked there too and Josef would bring in his sister's lunch if she forgot it. Mum loved him singing "I'll take you home again Kathleen" as that was her name. What a lovely voice he had!

  • Great Joe!!!!!! A lot of people couldn't sing half as well, at half your age, then.

  • All Jo's greatest can still be obtained on audio-cassette.(In GT.BRITAIN)I first saw him in 1956. He loved to Sing.! And much love he gave out. Thank You Jo. Rest In PEACE.

  • Even considering his age, he sounds great. I grew up with a Joe Locke on the RCA and am better for the experience.

  • anyone know where i can get more footage of this great singer got a few cd's but not got any dvd or vidoe's on this guy so powerfull a voice would love to just sit back and enjoy his talent

  • Joe had a much better voice than this Video shows. This was recorded near the end of his career. I have recordings of his earlier years and intend to upload them soon. I hope you will enjoy them. I had the pleasure of singing with Joe on many occasions especiall the duet "The Keys of Heaven" sometimes known as "Madam will you walk".

  • my grandaddy is a dubliner and he wud appreciate this..........that town that he loves so well!!!!

  • Saw him in Blackpool many times. Just the greatest

  • a great singer

  • one of the best a class act

  • that man sang that song as if he had lived every moment of it!! Very few ,if any, of todays performers could cause an old toughie like me to reach for a tissue!! A few more like him, and this world would be a sweeter place!. God Bless him.

  • i grew up in Dublin in da 50s and me da was a good tenor in his days so the house was filled with great music such as Josef Locke --thank you for puttin' this up - misty eyes indeed

  • great , first time i seen him on tv 20 years ago ,i thought this old guy wont have a voice ,boy did i find out ,best irish singer ever /

  • An object lesson in how to sell a song, and also in how to make the very best of ageing vocal resources. A true professional.

  • Good old Joe ! He was fun amd a fine artist.

  • Many, many thanks for this moving clip. It shows what a great and important singer with long experience can create from a fairly simple song. He gives us every word and every deep felt mood. Phenomenal and with the sweetest sound.

  • @klokheten I wonderif anyone knows if J.L sang about the hands of Big Ben and I think he made a referance to the old queen mother
