  • To tell the truth the mere knowledge that some can get a full scholarship for atheletics and go to school either to party or drop out has always disgusted me. I don't know if a complet overhaul is needed, though it may be for the best. But I have an idea for a moderate, sensiable change. The athleates must first be accepted based on thier acedimics.

  • @ r9nger

thats right, but do you really think this was the point of this stroy?

  • rahul is not a muslim name.... i highly doubt that anyone born in Makkah would be given that name.

  • I think college sports should be dropped altogether. Our kids can't afford this anymore. The basketball coach at Temple makes over $650k! What college professor makes that kind of money? Schools build stadiums and sports centers with the profit of the tuition price.Since tax payers support the tuition system through gov student loans, none of the money should be going towards sports. We need to end the collegiate sports system, NOW!

  • Definately subcribed

  • I used to take the idea of god seriously, even after i became an atheist i would still think about the idea sometimes. Now I just find it ridiculous. Atheism isn't as rejected as people think it is, it's the mindset of the future.

  • Wow 3 hatred lol great video

  • Re: Athletic Scholarships

You have to consider that the athletes might end up bringing money into the school through ticket sales for the athletic event. This money could be used to help financially needy students.

  • the muslim one doesnt make much sense considering allah is god but in the muslim language

  • @KrazyEngima

    Which "muslim language"?

  • @Quintinohthree

I think he means in the Arabic language.

  • @Quintinohthree im pretty sure its all over said allah

  • cool show, very diverse. both within itself + in the context of other channels w/a similar theme.

taht's good advice about the iron too, i'll keep it in mind.

    kthxbai

  • Well written story. Strong message. I liked it. Presentation was a bit bland but that allowed me to do other things while listening so visual presentation is not a big deal to me.

  • according to the bible god already knows all from when your born till you die,so much for free will

  • only 1 more subscribed for 3k

  • Awesome!!! Keep it coming!!

  • The first thing to do is realize and accept that not everyone needs, wants or should go to college. Apprenticeships, trade schools, etc can give people great career training without the massive debt ...and they would probably be happier on top of it because they spend more time learning the important stuff and don't have to waste years in "diversity studies" to get a good job.

  • @GrapplingIgnorance Although one can disagree with some of the specifics, the overal method of eliminating most teachers and offering a government subidized option to pay the students able to demonstrate competency without the aid of teachers should be offered. Although the existing system need not be completely replaced, it is in dire need of updates to take into account IT.

Teachers should teach, not act as babysitters. How much time do you spend on discipline and clerical tasks? Too much.

  • @GrapplingIgnorance Let's look at a case study shall we? tinyurl-com-6k69reu (pdf) In the sample, 50%-53% of the students who enrolled in online classes were able to succeed vs 60-65% of the traditional courses.

Despite the lower success rate, this shows that the students in online sections of classes (in that instance) succeed at comparable rates to the traditional sections at a fraction of the cost and prior to factoring in the pre-existing material (videos, lectures, auto-graded tests).

  • Thumbs up, shared and added to a box on my page called belief is powerful. It is the beliefs that man has about "god" that manifest what we see around us today.

  • 1. Videotape classes and publish classes/material online available to anyone for free (Berkley/Stanford/MIT/khan/Harvard have done this already)

    2. Fire the teachers

    3. Pay the students the teacher's salaries+state subsidies for completing the courses

Conclusion: Students getting paid instead of having to pay = win/win for society and for the students

  • @MonotonePeanut Ummmmm, I'm curious how these students are supposed to be paid for attending classes, when we can't even afford to pay teachers- oh, and how are they supposed to learn since step two requires you firing the teachers?

  • @GrapplingIgnorance user-StanfordUniversity, user-MIT, user-khanacademy, webcast-berkeley-edu-courses Record classes from the top ed facilities by the best teachers and for the best students and show that to everyone (links above). The teachers for most schools would be replaced by free online education and the state would pay students who successfully completed courses & passed tests.

  • @GrapplingIgnorance Education is free, what costs money is the degree that signifies education. People aren't motivated to learn online, so get the state to motivate them instead of paying someone to say the same thing seven times a day, year after year. Implemination will likely be hybridized, some can go to class and watch, some can from home. Currently fully online classes do exist at my college, the potential for growth is enormous. Not all students need face-to-face comm to learn.

  • @MonotonePeanut Parts of what you say are true, others are inaccurate. Education is not free- information, resources, educators, beuracracy etc. all have costs. Those who can actually benefit from on-line classes are few and far between. People who get full on-line degrees have a much lower tendancy of being fully qualified, and as someone who's taken them I see why. Calling a teacher's job "saying the same thing seven times a day year after year" is a gross oversimplification.

  • @GrapplingIgnorance Knowledge is free in that sense, it's the degree that costs money. Since the state is already paying a large sum of money to educate the population, it might as well pay the students to motivate them to graduate, now that such a system is possible given modern IT.

There are a million ways to do the actual implementation, but people would be a lot more motivated to learn if they were paid to do it, especially the lower tier that needs the money and degrees the most.

  • @MonotonePeanut I'm sorry, but it's not realistic to say that the state already spends a lot of money to pay for schools/eduators etc, so we might as well pay students to go to class. It's incredibly impractical, especially when considering the ever shrinking education budget and compare it to other areas of federal funding.

  • On the note of post-secondary education, I think it's more than just the scholarship program which is broken. The whole education system needs an update.

I find myself agreeing with a video posted on 'TheRSAorg's channel, it's currently the 'featured video'. Obviously, the suggestion that we move to a more individualistic, and lateral thinking oriented system, is a little vague, but it's a start.

Aside from that ... I think physical prowess, is a poor reason to get into an academic institution.

  • Everyone should end every video title with what episode it is or what video it is. That would make keeping track of them so much easier!

  • If God decides to kill 50 kids because they made fun of a man for being bald, it's good. And if God decides to send otherwise good people to hell because they didn't believe in Him, even though the God made no effort whatsoever to meet the person or to even show the slightest tangible evidence of his existence, then it's good. Even if we would consider such behavior psychotic when not in a religious context.

  • The argument for Christians would be that God is the decider of what is good or evil. Meaning that God can do whatever he pleases, no matter how sick or psychotic we would normally consider it, because God is good. (continued in next comment).

  • the playing field is level, all people have the oppertunity to repent and place their faith in Christ, the problem is no one wants to do that read Romans 1. I understand your line of thinking, I used to hate God too. Please try to put your hatred of God aside and give the gospel of Jesus Christ some seriuos thought.

  • I like the little floating banana in the upper left of the screen during GI's portion.

  • maybe it's time for amercica to stop having an army that is more powerful than any 3 nations combined and invest more money in public schools just compare americas education rates ,crime rates, and poverty to Scandinavia........ bloody socialists and there government education

  • @judoisoww That very well may begin to happen. Maybe not to an extreme, but the budget for defense will be cut. The Sec. of Defense has already pinpointed many programs that should be eliminated. It will be an interesting time over the next few months...

  • @ProportionalResponse i hope so i'm not an american but i couldn't imagine not having social healthcare and youthalowance to help me get through school australia isn't a socialist country but we have social justice at least and we don't pay excessive taxes

  • @judoisoww I agree with you on health care and education. Many Christians also agree that health care is the most important human right. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for example explicitly stated that. Unfortunately, some Christians follow the Republican party or society's opinion above the Bible. Very few today even understand what the Bible says about justice in economic areas. But, throughout history, Christianity has started and led more human rights movements than any other entity.

  • @TruthIsLife7 i'm not sure i would agree entirely but i cannot and won't deny the black church's (a christian denomination) part in freeing the slaves and the work of organisations such as the salvation army. can you please give me some more specific examples of human rights movements backed by Christianity?

  • @judoisoww The Quaker's played a huge role in fighting slavery as did many others. I know nearly all in my my denomination from top to bottom strongly opposed slavery and some helped to free slaves.

John Weidner helped rescue ~1500 Jews and others from Hitler in France...about as many as Schindler did. Many Christians, including some leading Protestants strongly opposed Hitler.

Christians pioneered education, orphanages, the One Campaign recently (it started as Jubilee2000) and many others.

  • I'm not sure about this "Bananas of Reason" username. I'm an atheist and have been a fan of Grappling Ignorance's videos.

Some religious people may say that you guys (and other atheists) are banana for thinking that there is no god.

  • @Petemoss1976 We talked about the username at some length. The biggest advantage of inserting the Bananas name into the name, is that it offers a great chance to tell the Ray Comfort story about Bananas. Plus, I like how the name stands out. Other names that we thought about were very generic.

  • Great stuff guys. Keep it up!

  • Fantastic video, fellows. Glad to see this up and looking forward to many more.

  • The school/college system in the US is shit! When I hear that people aren't getting into their desired colleges because they don't have enough money, but do have great academic experience, then that means that the system over there doesn't exploit the potential of the people! Here in Norway, colleges don't cost shit, instead, you are judged by your performance/grades at high school. You still have to pay for your own apartment though, duh.

  • I unplugged my iron, but now all of my shirts are wrinkly :(

  • @bottlezone Iron first, THEN unplug.

  • Love the video. Can't shake the vibe I get from the music, though, sounds like it came from a cheesy early 90s movie soundtrack. But if that's what you're going for, great!

  • @sumrblizrd We are looking for a pernament theme, that is composed just for this series. We used this, beacause it was royalty free. If you can compose a piece, feel free to send it to us. We'll be picking the one we like from the submissions. =) It's a great way to get your name in each episode.

  • god had a plan but it was too perfect. then he did some bad cocaine and drank too much. That's when creation started.

  • This videos are so good! keep them coming.

  • oh my god Red Pill and me have the same Beard thingy.

  • Tuition rate is going up because of government. Government has no lending standards when it comes to giving out student loans. Thus universities can raise prices without worring about pricing people out of the market. Government involvment often results in higher prices and lower quilty(education) while the market results in lower prices and higher quality(electronics, oil before "the man" broke up standard oil)

  • @greenghost2008 I don't think I buy that argument. Do you have sources to back this up? Numbers? Examples, etc?

  • @greenghost2008 Do you have sources to back this up? Numbers? Examples, etc?

  • @SpiderWhiteYT Can you justify why there should be government at all? It seems odd to have a monopoly inc ontrol of society rather then several private insitutions. The state is the problem. Anarcho-capitalism is the solution.

  • @greenghost2008 Government=violence market=voluntary

  • @greenghost2008 green. You made a statement about the university price, and when asked ot give some stats, you changed the topic to justifying the need for Govt. Please provide stats and ref's to back up your origonal claim. That is the only way you'll be taken seriously. TY

  • @ProportionalResponse This thing doesn't let you reply with links. Basically if government should handle this industry why not all industry? That would follow your unstated princible Government should run industries.

These loans cause tuition to rise because now universities can raise price without pricing out their customer pools. Also it increases defaults(people not being able to pay their loan back) do to the fact that government loans have absolutly no lending standards.

  • @ProportionalResponse no lending standards = extremly risky loands that wouldn't be logical under a voluntary situation.(voluntary because all taxes are violent theft and fear market lending isn't backed up by such theft)

  • @greenghost2008 How is having several private institutions in control of society any better? And because a society where power is held by the few than the people is better?

  • @SpiderWhiteYT It wouldn't be a sitatuonf of control by merely protection. check out free domain radio and its podcasts. These insitutions would have to satsify and compete to satsfy their customers and there are ways to protect people using little force. blacklistening in a society where public property has been abolished.

  • Comment removed

  • @greenghost2008 In your example there is still be a need for force to protect the public's safety from harmful products. If you want to ingest toxic food be my guess, but don't give me this "GOVERNMENT IS BAD BECAUSE IT FORCES YOU TO DO STUFF" shit when your alternative is almost the exact same. BTW, you can just provide the name of the video and/or website you use to backup your argument instead of a link.

  • @SpiderWhiteYT The FDA makes things worst because people are dieing because the state doesn't allow them to try experimental drugs they(patients) are willing to try. The state props up big corporations and lends to business not operating as well. In a total free market I really doubt business would poison their food in mass. Would Mcdonlads stay a sucessful company if its company was linked to cancer over and over again? of course not.

  • @SpiderWhiteYT Your arugment looks like this to me There is a problem gov fixes all problems it goes into food posion is a problem ergo gov keeps us safe protecting it

let me prove you wrong. War on drugs=fail war on terror=fail public education=fail welfare state=fail nationalization=fail It doesn't seem like a bad idea to simplify it and say State=fail.

  • @greenghost2008 When did I state the gov't fixes all problems? The gov't has a place and making sure food is safe is one of them. The state also makes sure the drugs we take are safe to take.

  • @SpiderWhiteYT I saw your channel. I like Unschooling as well.

  • @SpiderWhiteYT look up mises schiff lewrock free domain radio .coms

  • @greenghost2008 And the fact that you can eat food that has been certified as safe for public consumption is all the proof I need, really. Well, that is until regulations become lax at the behest of these private institutions.

  • @greenghost2008 Also, electronics are incredibly high. Hell, gaming consoles alone cost upwards to 500$ with the cheaper ones ranging from 150$ - $200 and the equipment itself notably the Xbox360 isn't always the highest quality equipment either. I am not saying the Government should be making TVs, but the market isn't some perfect system that always provides top of the line products at some low cost.

  • Those students with athletic scholarships should be held to the highest of academic standards! I understand that collegiate sports are an important part of our culture, but I often feel that colleges are forgetting what they are here to provide - AN EDUCATION, not mindless entertainment for the drooling masses of idiots. If one receives an academic scholarship, and he or she either leaves college early or fails his or her classes, it should then become a loan that must be repaid.

  • very nice!!!!!!

  • as a first year college drop out with over $2K in student debt, i think that all high school graduates should be ENCOURAGED to take a year off from school and just work. not PUSHED into college and mindlessly put into a completely different setting where most students don't even want to be taking half the classes they HAVE to take.

  • @ClingyThingy I don't know if an across the board rule should be put into place, HOWEVER, I'd love to see kids take a year to work in some non-profits. Maybe work an exchange process, where they do it for a year, and then that non- profit pays for books for 4 years. I think it would help build character. Working for a year, helping others may give new students the drive to take those classes. Food for thought at least.

  • in 1989 I saw an interview with Madalyn Murray O'Hair, and she did not seem the evil person, I had been told she was. So I decided to look at my faith, and tried to figure out something that would invalidate it for me, thinking I would think of none. After a few days of contemplating various things, I worked this exact argument against religion, out on my own. Unlike some people that it happens slowly for. This argument hit me like a ton of bricks. I have been an atheist ever since.

  • I just had to pay through the nose for my school. I have 10 left for gas and i don't get paid for another week and a half. Definitely could use some help with the college thing : /

  • @tamc1337 I know how that feels.

  • Awesome video again guys, and I like the format. Definitely looking forward to more from this channel.

  • @TheLizardLass awwww (blush).

  • What's the solution to our educational system as far as affordability? German citizens don't even have to pay anything to obtain a college education. Wish we had the same privilege here.

  • how can a human be born in to a wasp home?

  • @bjam89 WASP = White Anglo-Saxon Home

  • @Nilsy1975 White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Home

  • @Nilsy1975 ah thanks that makes a whole lotta more sense

  • Best part is that in the title it says (Ep 1) suggesting there's more to come. Yay!

  • @Razorhawk72 Yes. We are going to try to produce regular videos. Thinking about every 2 weeks. Stay tuned to find out more =)

  • @BananasOfReason "We are going to try to produce regular videos. Thinking about every 2 weeks"

May I suggest putting MrsDarkMatter2525 in charge of your video production? You guys will be cranking out videos at an amazing rate.

  • @BananasOfReason Many of your criticisms have been answered a LONG time ago already. Dr. Plantinga of Notre Dame (and others before him) solved the problem of evil if God is good and all powerful. See esp. videos 2-4 here:

    my_playlists?p=FF4DF93F306FA0C3

MUCH that exists in this world has NOTHING to do with God's plan whatsoever. What you are claiming is like saying that North Korea was the plan of Thomas Jefferson and the intent of democracy.

  • @BananasOfReason

Every two weeks? Believe it yourself.

  • Quality start lads

  • Grappling,

Great speach on the pitifully disgusting university system! We have a similar crisis in Canada. Imo, there should BE no damn scholarships of any kind. They are too few and do not fix the greater problem. The system should be affordable enough so that scholarships are not needed.

  • @MrStillmans What a wonderful world that would be.

  • Tuition should be state funded with a mandatory B average. If people cant sustain a B average they should have a choice of technical schools, military service or national service.

  • cool videoz comrades

  • god bless your channel

  • great vid

  • thumbs up

  • Hey, rich Christians don't have it so easy buddy! Do you even know how much a needle whose eye is big enough for a camel to go through costs!?!?!? I couldn't even afford gold spinners for my new Ferrari!

  • @MacabreManifesto go figure i got the needle but not the camel lol

  • Hang on. If you equate GI with Kenny (which was amusing) don't you have to kill him at some point in the video?

  • @bdf2718 Kenny doesn't die in every episode.

  • If banana's are the divinely inspired food, that God wanted man to eat then why can't we survive on bananas alone? And why would God get the credit if WE actually cultivated seedless bananas, with the plantains that came before being mostly seeds and so tough that you had to cook them? And why are the ones that we have now, still so fucking disgusting (or is that just my preference)!?

  • I've gone bananas, truly great, thumbs & faves, I will leave this as the autoplay vid on my channel.

    thanks for a great vid.

    PEACE OUT

  • @roblesterfilms Aesome man! Glad you liked it =)

  • I enjoyed this video.

  • The banana fits perfectly in my hand, it was made for me. WOW so does something else.

  • banananana

  • But but but... I don't LIKE bananas. Can I have cookies?

  • @AtheistApe5 In regarding the actual contents of this post/video. The cookie joke was made before watching what you fellows made.

  • @AtheistApe5 Cookies of Reason are served in the stand around the corner. They contain as much reason, and as such are an equally good mental sustenance :)

  • @AtheistApe5 only if you behave LOLOL

  • First....and awesome!
