It's nice to see how the country pressed forward post 9/11. With the worst possible attack imaginable, people could have stayed inside and made one less patriotic year for December 31st 2011.. but you all saw what they did. They came out... celebrated, and EVERYWHERE, in the crowd, you see SOME symbol of the red/white/blue.

After watching the beginning, I was thinking about those pathetic terrorists. I'm sure they weren't expecting this - for us Americans to have a happy New Year's ceremony while remembering and dedicating those who were lost on 9/11. This ceremony symbolized that we are NOT going to bow down to terrorism and its makers. I could just imagine the stunned and unhappy looks on their faces if they were watching this.

I loved 2002 that was a great year for me. I was much happier back then.

I was 14 years old and I still had my Mom and my Dad in my life.

We were a family and were all happy. Just last year December 10, 2010.

I lost my Dad he died at 42. And my Mom is with a guy that dose not care about me. I would do anything to go back to 2002 wen things were alot better.

KAMIZKAZR I am sorry you lost your dad. I lost my mom too just a couple of months ago & I was diagnosed with Cancer myself. Death is just a Door It is not to be feared or despised. I miss my Mom horribly every day &also get angry at losing her alot. But it passes & I know I feel her around me as I continue on here & I know even more certainly that I will see her again when I pass through that door. This was the last year that my father and I ever watched the Ball Drop together.

He passed away of cancer on April 12th of the same year, and when the 2003 Ball Drop came, I turned in early.

Fuck death. Why do people have to pass, especially loved ones?

At least my father and I watched this one last time. I miss him so much.

The style of the numbers on the countdown screen always seem to reflect the mood or tone of the times. Here after 9/11, it was stars and red, white, and blue. Last New Year's Eve, in the middle of this hard recesion, the countdown looked 80's-esque - an allusion the last time that things were quite tough.

and at the bottom of One Times Square, those 3 countdown screens totally looked the same as the 2008 ball drop.
