  • choooooooooooooon got to love the slipmatt

  • i LOVED this tune!!!! memories!! :)

  • nice job Matt

  • Big fish, little fish cardboard box, about 4am. well that's how I remember it ;-)

  • my best years

  • to the track uploader - ur exactly right in what u said in the description.

can i just say...a great all round (& classic) hardcore track by the Godfather of Hardcore the one & only DJ Slipmatt.

and as for THAT DROP @ 2:34....WOW it personifies Old Skool

  • oh yeah remember musicmaker dancing on stage with his glitter suit on to this track at Helter skelter in 94....swweeeet memories ...1993 1994 vintage happy hardcore years...then it went to bouncy...At least we have the memories!!!

  • BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES OF MY YOUTH OF LISTENING TO FUSION ,OBSESSION, DREAMSCAPE,HELTERSKELTER TAPE PACKS,THE ROOTS OF HARDCORE BETTER THAN ALL OF TODAYS BOUNCY SO CALLED HARDCORE SHITE SPEEDED UP FOR TODAYS YOUTH THEY CAN REMIX AND REMIX THESE CLASICS BUT THERE NEVER BE AS GOOD AS THE ORIGIONALS WITH THE OH SO COOL BREAKBEATS THE VIBES OF 92 TA 95 WILL NEVER DIE

  • @ubergodufo What a load of waffle, without the new beats and new remixes of these classics they'd slip into the obscurity and dying memory of a couple of old has been ravers.

Without the new generation loving Hardcore it would DIE and without Producers like Darren Styles and Hixxy remixing over and over the Genre would become obsolete.

THANK YOU Ravine, Cotts and all the over YouTube DJ's that keep these tunes alive and in the ears of our Kids.

Because of u HARDCORE will be here TIL I DIE!!

  • @rom. Bollocks, pure and simple. 21st century remixes just cash in on the originality and quality of the early 90's Ubergodufo's totally right, the whole era is looked upon with great fondness by all those who experienced it. It wasn't just the music it was the attitude and IMO that will never be regained. Jungle got overgrown, happy hardcore got sad. The genre will not become obsolete because too many people had too good a time and remember it well.

  • @stratfordtony42 - I was at clubs with these tunes, so I know first hand how the music progressed Thanks m8! I've been there and aside from the commercialisation some of the DJ's like Darren Styles, Hixxy, Scott Brown, Dougal etc.. have enhanced and improved on a great platform provided by these guys. Jungle / Hardcore & Dance emulated into a HUGE industry. Giving us Trance, Dub, Garage, DnB so what are u on about? How can live in the past like that? Love the past but stay with us in the now ;)

  • @stratfordtony42 dont forget most jungle/happy/hardcord took samples from tunes in the 1st place this has sampled the paino loop from jimi polo (better days) like the new mixes or not they are doing the SAME thing thats always done

  • @romfordmassive are you stupid? its wankers like hixxy that killed it in the first place. him and dougal going venu to venu week after week playing the same bullshit sets over and over and over, only changing by remixing proper music. they are a joke and should have never been allowed near a rave.slipmatt is one of the masters, hixxy was a parasite.

  • @ubergodufo You're absolutely correct and romfordmassive should know better.

  • @stratfordtony42 - Why should I know better?!

I do know better "Clearly". I was at Global Gathering 2009 and 2010.

I've seen the 90's music then and I'm in the music now. I'm not a "HAS BEEN" dreaming of the past when I used to be a RAVER. I AM A RAVER!

I'm hardcore, pure and simple and you 2 can dwell on the golden days and brag to your Grandkids about raves all you like, but I'm taking my Grandkidsraving WITH ME. LOL!!! YEAH!!!

I'm A RAVER BABY SO WHY DONT YOU SAVE ME!!!??? LOL

    PEACE XXX

  • What A Tune!!

This Classic Is Selling On E-Bay Along With 9 Other Absolute Gems.

To Find Them Search:- Happy Hardcore Records For Sale X10 Very Rare 12" Vinyl

  • no-one can dispute this . seminal.

  • I luv this tune!!! Slipmatt rulez!!!! Old skool neva die!!!

  • I luv this tune!!! Slipmatt rulez!!!! Old skool neva die!!!

  • aint the original congress 40 miles ??

  • @loffycarter yes

  • happy piano junkies skip to 0130 :DDD

  • Ive uploaded the original and posted it as a video response for u all, now u can compare and stop moaning lol

  • yeah this definitely isn't the original version that was pressed up, it never said slipmatt in the intro.

  • The synthesizer sounds almost the same as Elevation - Can You Feel It.

  • @hoody232 yeahh, that is a great tune. love the piano

  • Somehow it doesn't start off the same as the one I had on vinyl. Damn I had all four of them, it was 3A that got me, such tunes.

  • I have this on vinyl, and it does not have the 'slipmat' wording in it! I have a few smd vinyls. Vinyl 4 ever :-)

  • oh my fuckin days!!!! siiiiik choonage!

  • pure quality tunes today just dont cut it

  • does smd stand for suck my dick in this case?

  • @Lilmiss2shoes lol no, slipmatt dubplate

  • @djbazia Easy with the insults lol, although when I used to play this out it might have served me well if it did loooool! Always DID wonder what it stood for though, thanks for enlightening me. In electronics SMD stands for surface mounted device and I wondered if it was that

  • @djbazia My copy aint got the 'Slipmat' sample in it though

  • @Lilmiss2shoes

    your fucking retarded

  • @klime13 It was a joke. And that backfired.. *you're.

  • why am i sober? :/

  • er you didn't get it off your vinyl, I had the vinyl and it never had the "slipmatt" scratch at the beginning, that's from a mix, you downloaded it alright :/

  • @shuyasixsixsix it might not be from a vinyl but it doesnt sound like its from a mix either - it plays end to end no other tune comes in

  • @klmattydub Might be from the SMD compilation CD (only released in Australia!!). The version on there has a different intro to the vinyl version

  • The piano loop is taken from Congress - 40 Miles and Jimi Polo - Better Days. Those 2, and this, are very good songs.

  • @Duco1991 Jimi Polo first - 1989 if I'm not mistaken

  • I loved this tune. One of the best happy hardcore tunes ever!!!!!. Thanks for uploading and brining back some old memories.

  • For me this tunbe changed my life. I'm form Spain and in this country, we don't know the rave of the 93 to 95. In spain in this years the tipyical techno music wa "maquina or Bakalao". I love happy hardcore & rave and i Search the name of this tune arround 10 years. Finally this is. Really Tank's yoy DjBazia.

  • Yes!! dj sy and mc ruff parada wolności łódź 1997

  • Comment removed

  • @Crombienation17 SMD Vol 1 Side A

  • is slipmatt still spinning vinyl?

  • @tompaaz Not sure if he still spins wax but he's definitely still Dj'in.

  • probably the first happy hardcore tune ever produced here

  • this is another belter

  • Never mind happy, it might of made you smile but, this was proper hardcore jungle with yer hands in the air stuff!!!! IMHO Quality !!!!!

  • JUNGLE ACTUALLY AND NOT HAPPY HARDCORE.

  • Paaarttty Creeew

  • w pizdu ZJEBANE!!

  • This tune changed my life.

I used to hate rave music back in the early 90s (i was only 10/11 at the time) then one day (it was 93 i believe) my older bro gave me a Ratpack tape, this was the second tune on side B and i listened to it so many times i broke the tape. Still sounds a good now as it did then.

Big Up to this tune for gettin me into the rave scene :D

  • This is the digital & original dubplate version....I left the intro off of the vinyl!!!

    From the horses mouth :-)

  • @thedjslipmatt what ever hapend to LIME????????

  • @thedjslipmatt I owe you a beer or 2 this tune changed my life! ( mostly for the better)

  • absoluuuuuuuuuuuuuutely love this tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuune, hands in the air massive OI OI

  • Its just a reworking of the piano from the earlier hardcore tune 40 Miles by Congress which was a far bigger relase and top 40 hit in 1991 whereas this was just a little underground tune in 1993. Slipmatt done far better tunes than this as well. Plus the beats on this are pretty much hardcore jungle not happy. MC Lethal's Ravedigger surely counts as an earlier happy hardcore tune? although to me happy really begin till 1994 '6 Days on The Run', 'Toytown' etc, this is just oldskool.

  • DDFF

  • I just want to go back in time and move to the UK. I had to hear this stuff and pay sick amounts of money and when I would play it people in the US were like what the hell was that. Awesome breakbeat shite

  • This and 'Crowd Control' by Ramos & Supreme basically pioneered Happy Hardcore .

  • Pure classic.

  • top class collection had loads of these records lost over the years top man

  • tens across the board, the hairs on my neck are up !!!!!!

  • I have to agree the first Happy Hardcore release, although ppl will probably disagree :-) thanks for sharing it brings back soooo many great memories :-)

  • were did it all go wrong from this quality style,to shit my 7 year old boy wouldnt listen to,and they have the nerve to still call it hardcore.

  • its pretty cool because you can really hear the presence of both jungle breaks with a 4/4 beat, a great example of when house and jungle were one.

  • only 40 miles away from love ..........originals good but this is better.

  • goosebumps anyone, dont dis slipmat, hes done more for hardcore rave than most

  • I love hardcore man shame i was born 1985

  • Well i was a care free 16 year old and we used buy an 8th every friday with our pocket money and get in stue's Escort and jet off down the A47 to this edge tape by Carl Cox and when this came on well Stue used to go over 90,such a summer tune 93' Wiked!

  • likewise, except, 17..16th..Mum's Renault 5...M6..Obsession tape by DJSY..Charlie used to go over 90.

Probably youth all over the country were doing something similar!

Amazing we all survived. Unfortunately the renault 5 didn't :-)

  • @Drumscience1 Reminds me so much of me. But it was other tunes like ruff in the jungle and outta space. 1/8th of puff some LSD, in me mate steves yellow escort, down the M2 to margate at 3am just to see the beach. :D

  • @Drumscience1 Happy days man, I can't remember being a 16 year old. I still remember these tunes though.

  • @Drumscience1 Remember when stu touched you in your special place in that a layby!

  • @bensolloway Yeah i remember it well,ya mum was there and you were filming at the side of the layby......

  • @Drumscience1 Hahahahahaaa the slag!

  • @Drumscience1 Remember when stu touched you in your special place in that layby!

  • @Drumscience1

I bet you mean every day ;-)

  • I remember the first time i ever heard this.you cant beat the old school. And slipmatt is one of the legends.Had the honour of dancing on stage to a few a few of his sets.Awesome

  • happy hardcore my first and only love

  • Whoi gives a F*K what they are called and about the added 'slipmatt' at the start ..when i was djing in these times these 3 discs were the records to have and hard to get and no matter what anyone says slipmatt was the man and main attraction at any DECENT happy hardcore rave ...love you slipmatt LOL

  • somebody post the other side please!

  • toon!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is not like the orginal the start is different it didn't have that stupid "slippmatt" thing going on at the being o well still a good tune

  • no mate i made tht mistake too lol

the version on a lot of albums is acually a 96 remix with a harder bassline.

tht was the first time i heard the original too,...its ok but ah bit behind me growing up lol

  • I want to do it all over again, thankingyou for posting this beauty.

  • it means SUCK MY DICK!!! lol

  • great memories to this track!!!

  • smd means slipmatt and demo !!!!

  • "SMD" stands for Slipmatt Dubs. SMD Pseudonym used by Slipmatt to release a short series of cheeky breakbeat happy hardcore tracks

  • Comment removed

  • Slipmatt and Dougal?

  • someone invent a time machine i miss the 90's

for me the scene was 91- 97

  • if you find one can i come? for me it was 89-94 then stared to go down hill :(

  • Never known a feeling like it, a disco biscuit at Dreamscape and this tune playing.

  • slipmatt is the dugs baws people

  • is that ur website?? back to the oldskool?

  • i thought that too, cos the quote in the box has been copyed and pasted for that web page.......

  • the site aint mine but i saw it on that so i jus copyed and pasted the image and info, but the tune is from my own vinyl

  • or insanity clause

  • its a shame oldskool raves arent goin anymore fukin hate all this new hardcore shit we need a blast from the past...schizophrenic lox check it out proper oldskool or prove me wrong

  • They're not? Where have you been mate?

  • 1:32 sample from Pianoman - Blurred

  • you will find that this was released before pianoman aka dj salmon had mixed his track

  • the piano sample is from 'better days' by Jimi Polo

    Peacex

  • great

  • Am i the only person that plays the terrorize mash up on the other side?

  • No you're not as i prefer the B side too!

  • when it gets to 1.32 put your hands in the air and look to the sky and rave on

  • @nickeg01 No it really kicks in at 2.35.My mate had this on vinly and loved it but the happy hardcore scene later went a bit naff in my opinion.

  • ''all tunes off my vinyl, i dont download!'' damn straight pirating is wrecking all scenes, so many great tunes will never get released by labels as theres no money in it anymore. People need to realize this fact and stop fucking it up and pay for some shit.

  • dudes got a point :)

  • thanks dcdesignadmin and boo me all you like others the thing is I have stopped djing and going to raves a clubs so it doesn't effect me it will effect all those still going out, and if you rely on tunes from the past (such as slipmats tunes etc etc) scenes will die a boring death.

    ps vinyl rules.

  • well done mate i agree with you i feel exactly the same way bout it spot on mate

  • I love it! started going to Raves n the mid 90's, and would dance like a loon to tunes like this!. Pity the music got far too fast and bouncy.

  • The best part of this tune for me was the synth riff @ 2:35...it screams hardcore!!

  • i hear what ur sayin mate, happy and jungle did exist side by side. therre were alot of tracks like bukem & peshay 19.hz, cloud 9 mr logic, international rude boyz drum programme remix, that really shone the light for jungle techno, jungle and darkcore.there was just a massive facelift of hardcore in 93.

ps the sweet sensation by shades of rythm (ray keith remix)?? cos dats tuuunnnee!!!

  • absolutely buzzing record

  • Slipmatt is a legend, the original crowd pleaser DJ and producer.

  • "wicked track"

  • I had the SMDs 1-4 they are all good sides A and B Though I liked this one and SMD 3 best.

Slipmatt was my favourite DJ, He used to come Kinetic, Diehard and Quest often, Being from the midlands they were the only places I used to go, but used to get tapes from my local record shop of other places like Amnesia, Dreamscape, Helter Skelter as well as my local clubs. I used to collect Flyers I had hundreds of them

  • There was no such thinng as happy hardcore or drum & Bass just hardcore.

That was when it was best and us brits changed dance music for ever!

  • i agree there was no drum and bass back in 93 but hardcore became an umbrella heading for happy, jungle and trance alike in 93, hardcore was more on its own late 91 and 92, but there were still fractions of gernre but it was all followed under the banner of hardcore!!!!!!!!

  • Agreed! but some tunes like - Sweet Sensation (remix) had a D&B beat and an uplifting piano. Lots of choones of 93 did come to think of it.

  • Alot of the happy tunes from late 92 and 93 were drum and bass licks with an uplifting sample. Nookie's early work is a classic example.

  • i got the light blue one 2 which is just as good!!

  • SMD Or The Label SD Is All False Titles. What Are The Correct Titles To These SMD Records? Justin Langford.

  • Your a tit

  • Slipmatt Dubplates

  • CLASSIC TUNE

  • Ive got this

  • when happy hardcore was good

soon went shit circa 95 mind...

dreamscape 10 set from Slipmatt a good example of good happy hardcore

  • I have a tribal gathering tape from 93, Slipmatt and Top Buzz. Currently working out how to get it uploaded on here if poss. abslolutely corking tape, Slipmatt was a legend

  • I was bang into my drum and bass, but still loved the happy vibe, till it went all techno shit. This was one of the last good tunes the time. World Dance was quality for the best mix of Happy and Jungle.

  • yeah man ! i mean Bukem is still my hero but you are not a true jungle head if you can't appreciate tracks like this.

We just had DJ Future down on friday for our night in exeter , he used to play room 2 at World Dance and he rocked it ! rave is rave there is no label

  • Awesome

  • This was my record 'before' the decks...possibly the reason I got the 1210s

  • This is very good! It drives in perfect@

  • ROxx

  • 10/10 For Old Skool Jungle. Good Old Skool Track On The Dreamscape 24 Cd Are You Ready For The Old Skool.

  • is pianoman blurred sampled from this ???

  • hmm, is this "slipmatt" modified version really on the picture shown?

  • the pic for this wasnt on discogs at the time so i searched it on google n grab the quickest pic. annoyin thing is that it got the "backtotheoldskool" on it, so ppl might think i got it from there.

this is from my vinyl, the original smd#1

  • CLASSIC !!

The break down at 2.35 is one of the all time best IMO nice one.

  • a start of set classic

  • this is not the original

  • Top tune, reminds me of the Astoria. I've got the happiest memories from those days but i'm also sad these days are gone. Still we were blessed to have been there.

  • this tune is awesome. I liked the uk hardcore remixes of SMD on the "Hardcore 2007" album but the old ones are better

  • DjBazia, your spot on with what you said in the video description about the music at the time.

Hardcore had dark tracks and happier tracks, and this was one of the defining tracks that spawned Happy Hardcore. Which was quickly jumped on by record labels such as Kniteforce and artists such as Luna C and Jimmy J.

Basically Happy Hardcore almost broke off from the scene, and that left the darker and heavier tracks which spawned Jungle Drum and Bass.

    But Oh! the memories..

  • you are a legend slipmatt

  • That is where i heard the riff from, doesnt mean to sayhe was the first oen to do it. Let;'s not forget i didnt get into music til 98 so for me im travelling back in time and feeling the rave vibe for the first time, and loving it more than the retarded shit that people pass for music today (keane, coldplay, all the rest of it!)

  • Used to put jumping beans in me trainers for this one............lets do it!

  • wicked tune, ive this 1 and the blue 1 which is shit hot!!

  • holy monket peanuts wish a was back in a sweaty club twisting up to this belter

  • Just stumbled across this on the Tube. I've got this in me record collection somewhere but i haven't heard it for time. An absolute blinder of a tune and the B-side aint too shabby neither. AWESOMES!!!

  • Hi DJBAZIA, good fuckin on you mate! Just trawling around all your vids and lovin it. Am an ex raver from the '91-'94 days and this tune... the piano anthem part... Oh my fcuking god!!!!! I have goose bumbs listening to here for the first time in 14 years! I have lost my wistle, my dummy, my white gloves but those days are in my soul never to be lost. Long live 1992!!!!! Cheers Dan p.s. Anyone got any disco biscuits? mmmmmmmm

  • hahaha all bout the disco biscuits m8 i neva heared ne1 bar me call em that i even got discobiscuit in the title for me myspace xD

  • well, i do try :)

    thnx, means alot

  • its still fuckin awesome to this day

  • i finally know where i heard that piano riff form. Its from fat boy slim's song for lindsay from his first album. Its been bugging me for days!
