  • beautifull!

by the way revolution is also very romantic and unique decade

  • the pic at :59 is breathtaking!

  • @dzert91 these photos were all taken by a scientist / photographer commissioned by the tsar. They were all taken in the period between 1890 and 1905. They show Russia prior to the 1905 revolution and pre-industrialization.

  • Why is this called Russia Before the Revolution??? It has nothing to do with Russia before the revolution.

  • Beautiful pictures. What a different world was then.

  • I love these images, but they should be accompanied by a traditional Russian folk melody, not by this famous 20th century English composition by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Can you imagine photographs of England accompanied by an old Russian folk song!! Please Please give these pictures the music they merit.

  • Very beautiful video. What is the name of this sublime music? Thank you for posting.

  • @mayatatyana1 Just in case no one has answered your question, the music is by Ralph Vaughan Williams, a 20th century English composer, and it is called " A lark ascending". It is supposed to conjure a warm summer's day, with the sound of skylarks singing above as they rise steadily on the warm thermals. For us, it is very much the sound of an English summer, but only as we have grown up with it being associated as such. It was voted the nation's favorite piece of classical music last year.

  • I meant "I would not have guessed had they not told me". I have Jewish relatives as well, and some of my ancestors were Jewish, although most were christian. The fact that I am related to Jews has NOTHING to do with my political stance as an Anarchist. All I have to say is fuck you to the haters and racists who spread gross falsities to demean a people battered by history.

  • Is that merchant from Uzbekistan?

  • I believe it a traveling rug merchant from Uzbekistan.

  • Beautiful images.

  • i hate jewish bolsheviks

  • Thanks for posting! I had already seen these pictures on some other website, they're fascinating, so old yet so vivid!

  • Very nice!

  • Beutiful! This really captures the beauty of Orthodox Russia. May God forgive the destruction and sacrilege of so many churches and holy icons in the years since these photos were taken. May He also grant mercy to the Russian people who allowed this to happen.

  • very nice video and so interesting! thanks so much for posting!I love Russia but I admitt the old one much more....

  • O , this is just awesome! most excellant, great pictures and the music was outstanding!! Thanks for posting this wonderful video!!! 5 stars

  • I'd heard about Prokudin-Gorsky's work before, but this is the first time I see so many of his works together, so I'd like to thank you deeply for this video. Its hard to get a image from imperial Russia, and you provided me with many of them in living colour! Bolshoye Spacibo!

  • Thanks for the many rail shots. I have used a few of these photos when we were runnung mostly slide shows.

  • You make a GREAT! video,it's too interesting.

And a good point. There are photos of the turks regions of Russia.A region that is mostly forgotten of Russia, because we think specially in Moscow or forests, etc.

    What is the music?

Some photos seem to be almost exactly the same at the nowadays.

It's too sad the year 1917 although, much death and horror, the civil war,not well known, but too terrible, bolsheviks, the destruction of culture.

Thanks to God christianism has returned to Russia.
