The South was doing well because of natural resources such as cotton. To light a fire under the North, slavery was touted as the issue. Abraham Lincoln did NOT free the slaves in states that were fighting on the Union side but only in secessionist states. Kinda kills his stated motive.

The South was doing well because of natural resources such as cotton. To light a fire under the North, slavery was touted as the issue. opposed the growing power of the Federal government and the loss of their personal freedoms. I am glad that the North won that war, but ONLY because it ended slavery. If slavery had not been a part of it, the South would have been 100% in the right.
All of that aside, being against a war that ultimately ends slavery doesn't mean you're for slavery unless you believe that slavery couldn't have been ended without war. We'll never know for sure, but Ron Paul thinks it could have ended without war.

Consider the expansion into the West form the perspective of two differently minded coalitions of States. Had the North and the South not fought over the issue then, they would certainly have gone to war over it at some point. The two views on the matter of slavery were and are irreconcilable, and the entire economy of the South was based upon it.

During the invasion & subsequent occupation of Iraq & Afghanistan you killed over a million Arabs, most of them civilians. The production of Opium also skyrocketed. Ron Paul was still running for President, up until after the last primaries in June 2008. It was really disgusting to watch and listen to all the media people lie about that, and to insinuate that Paul might be using the money on himself was truly sick. Bill Maher definitely is an un-informed, two-faced opportunist, to use Paul's popularity in the summer of 2007 ("he's my new hero") but a year later lie about his candidacy and let guests insinuate about the money. Sick.

Happy now Bill? Paul's money went to ensure he wins his Congressional seat as long as he wants it AND to start and fund the Campaign for Liberty (in case you probably missed it, since all you do is trash conservatives these days, while ignoring Obama continuing most of Bush's policies) which is now making progress in Congress at holding the Fed accountable to the People.
I used to like Bill but he's just a shill with an agenda now. No different than Olbermann or OReilly.

First of all it was the head of Stormfront who donated $500 to Paul, not the KKK. Still a racist organization, but at least Stormfront has a relatively recent history just of racist propaganda, not 150 years of lynching people based on their race. Second, I'd rather Ron Paul have the money than Stormfront. Third, nothing he's ever said has (and the newsletters were not written by him) has even been remotely racist and he denounces racism as an "ugly form of collectivism".

Ron sent me a letter because I supported his campaign for president and in it he explained that he had to keep his presidential account separate from the congressional race he was running. My understanding is that most if not all of that money was spent on the Campaign for Liberty and other associated political education efforts. Not to mention the rally up in St. Paul.
