On the America CV-66 we called it R2d2, Sea wiz, or phalanx. This was the most most beautiful weapon at night to watch. Then we cut the Marines loose from their hatches (under lock and key) and then they would put on another great show! Alll in all a good night knowing that nothing is going to get by!
@cal45deserteagle and how exactly is that a waste? Rather spend a thousand bullets on rockets or grenades rather than take one in the face. That was one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while
This weapon isn't designed to be precise one hit-to-kill weapon. It forms curtain of fire to protect ship (or base in this situation) from incoming missiles. It is basically a last line of defense when all else fails.
This would be awesome at a baseball game. Nobody gets a homerun ball!
