  • I recently discovered that this song was actually some kind of a note-for-note imitation of one of Muddy Waters' song...Combined with Robert Johnson's lyrics...I think we can all agree this is a one of a kind mix it just fits perfectly...Oh yeah by the way I love this song it's a very nice blues. Thanks for posting!

  • god I love this song

  • Which open tunning is that ???

    HUM !!! Anyone knows ????

  • open G

  • love this song

  • tough to pull off with 1 instrument, aint none like mr. clapton, most are either pickerz or singers, very few are both.giutar players reconize THIS,he is a badass player and sanger

  • This is, in my opinion, one of the best Clapton's versions of Robert Johnson. A simple yet beautiful slide work abd a great interpretation of the lyrics. No need to compare Johnson's and Clapton's versions, both are indeed awesome songs.

  • I also have to say that I far prefer both the singing and the guitar playing in Robert Johnson's version of this song.

  • i prefer clapton's version to be honest.

  • Nice to hear Clappers playing this piece, not up tp gallaghers standard but good all the same

  • slide is the best sound in the world and sound 100x better on resonator guitar

  • i cant watch this video

    this video was good iZ

  • This is definitely well-done by Eric. His voice can't match Robert's but he did well. Thumbs up

  • but his guitar is better

  • I dunno, I wouldn't automatically say EC's guitar is better than RJ. RJ seriously took acoustic blues further than I imagined was possible. If he had access to an electric... man, that's something to ponder.

  • RJ probably plays guitar better but i like EC more thats why i like guitar better

  • Robert Johnson is almost too intimidating to try to emulate. I can get my head 'round Clapton more easily. So yeah, in a way Eric is more of a role model for my guitar playing...

  • wtf? do you even know how to talk at all?

  • wath do you mean?

  • This is the best cover I've heard so far.

  • it sounds like there's a meteranome ticking in the background

  • That's Clapton tapping his foot.

  • thats his foot

  • blues can't make money !

  • just poppy blues for poppy listeners that's no good for the blues

  • you know this is just a cover right? this was written by Robert Johnson. possibly the greatest blues man who ever walked the earth, and who also started the 27 Club.

  • I'm on your side, brother. This is sanitized, pop blues.

And I ain't some kid born yesterday. I know fair well this is a Robert Johnson classic.

  • Its actually a Son House song. When were you born again?

  • >>When were you born again?

    Two days ago.

  • clapton plays rock n blues

only this song is pop blues

  • I haven't read the older comments before I wrote mine. Some people already said the same thing (about Rory Gallagher). Too much is boring! But I'm a woman and I love Rory more than Clapton although Eric is perhaps the better musician. However, I'm mad about blues.

  • I think the version by Rory Gallagher is much better.

  • to each their own..

  • Not exactly funny.

  • That nerd is one of the best guitarist in the world. Douche!

  • No ass hole is not Bill Gates is Eric Clapton and is God!

You Know hoy to play the six strings instrument?

How to play like him obviously

  • fuck you

youre lucky im not in youre country

eric clapton can play way better then you can so get fucked

  • hey thats a pretty good comment, i think. he does kinda look like bill gates. and i like eric clapton, but its a little presumptous to call him one of the "best in the world." i mean hes got good blues chops, but there are plenty of less-famous virtuosos who could blow clapton outta the water.

  • CLAPTON IS GOD MOTHER FUCKER!

  • Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil,Gänsehaut, geil!!!!!

  • "I've been mistreated" oh yeah...cool

  • ckeck my stuff : magormojo

  • no danger .... his voice is better as older ..usua; withmale performerers //// Elton .. Bill Joel ... but > ERic has it now .... bravo

  • His voice has gotten better and better as he's gotten older. More soulful, more depth, more humanity. His playing has become less flashy; more soulful, too. It gives hope to humanity.

  • yeah, like Joni Mitchell, and in my opinion Bob Dylan. It give you a sense that they've been there, done that.

  • On of my favorite songs.

  • One*

  • I prefer his voice! He's got an amazing voice

  • First time i heard this was in a pool hall in Chicago. Hadn't heard it in years, and I found this. I must have listened to it 100 times by now, and It never gets old.

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • Its a Dobro

  • its a resonator acoustic, im not sure of the brand. it might be a Dobro since they specialize in resonators, but i doubt it. It might be an old martin, but im not sure.

  • Absolutely gorgeous, I've loved this song since i first heard it, luvd it so much I sang it for my vce exams, with this song I pushed through my improvisation and I wanna pik up the guitar!

  • there is just no energy here

  • pay your gas bill !

  • This song reminds me of Son House's song Death Letter!

  • Clapton has more soul than any one white man should ever have. He is a true blues player.

  • Yeah. Him and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

  • You're absolutely right mate. SRV is the best blues guitarist ever

  • you're incoherent, man.

Hendrix and SRV ain't no replicas!

  • I'm not saying hendrix is.I mean that SRV is an Albert King Jimi Hendrix copy

  • I gotta disagree. SRV has a totally unique style, attack on the strings, tone, improv approach, etc, etc.

He was a one off and a great talent.

  • thats completely ridiculous. upon that basis, jimi hendrix is ALSO an albert king copy. do you know just how many riffs Hendrix "borrowed" from albert king? this is the BLUES man. SRV isn't copying albert king, because albert king didnt write most of those riffs either. borrowing and trading riffs is a tradition in the blues. going all the way back to robert johnson. you think Johnson came up with even half those riffs? its all traditional.

  • licks not riffs

  • wow....just....wow....does it really matter?

  • i got what he was saying ,but it's wrong..he was saying stevie copied king and hendrix...stevie was like a melting pot of blues phrasing...imo

  • Nice interpretation of a classic bues song!

Clapton is a realy good player, technical perfect,... But he had no emotions in this song. Rory Gallagher wasn't a perfect player, but he had the sound and the emotion. So I think Rory was the best player in his time

    RIP

  • I'm sorry but this may be the most off the wall statement I ever heard. I listened to the Gallagher versions and they can't touch this with a 10 foot pole.

  • Rory had so so much more soul playing it and if you listen around he managed to play this same song in sevral different ways

  • This song requires alot of practice to get it sounding just right. This is why Clapton is so accomplished, he can play electric, acoustic, Nylon or Dobro with a pick, botleneck or fingerstyle.

  • I like this one, usualy I don't like the new stuf of clapton, Preffer the cream stuff though blues ^^

It is funny, he always said blues has to be rough and hard and now a days he make's crap blues.

  • clapton is a really mod :)

  • Awesome, i love this version!

  • When did music become a competition? Both Rory and Clapton do their own INTERPRETATIONS of a Robert Johnson song, no one version is better then the other because each person has a different view of the song.

  • I totally agree with you DeltaElite. Music (and certainly blues) is about emotions you bring into it, not a technical skills competition.

  • I totally agree with you!! Really smart opinion!

  • Sigh, children comparing musicians again. How sad.

  • Rory who?

Rory doesn't know Delta Blues technique. His version is what I would expect at the local Guitar Center-- you know right before you laugh and walk away... Delta blues style is about economy of motion and no "wasted" notes. His singing has something less to be desired. He sounds like my uncle singing in the bathtub.

  • exactly man we watch the god clapton. Rory who?

  • Yes man!!!

  • Djeez man at least show some respect for Rory. He was a real bluesman compared to Clapton... Rory was the best Delta blues player of his generation. I don't even know why I am replying to your shitty comment... Rory was the best !

  • Clapton's unplugged version of this song was meant to be a dedication to the works of both Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters. That is why the song sounds similar two both artists style's. The Guitar is a Dobro F60 model. If you think that's cool check out the one Doyle Bramhall II is playing on "Terraplane Blues" with Clapton.

  • This song is what made me pick up the guitar. Check out my version and let me know what you think!

  • anybody know what kind of guitar that is he is playing

  • Yep. Clapton kicks ass. Rory's doesn't even sound like the original. You wouldn't know it was the same song.

  • CLAPTON É SHOW !

  • i like this song an i love eric clapton but the rhythym is exactly "feel like goin home" by muddy waterss...right?

  • The only phine movie of walkin blues..

    The rest does really sucks

  • Try Rory Gallagher

  • This is the only good version of this song on youtube. the rest suck so much.

  • look up deltabluestips testing out my stella gambler, that should change your mind.

  • check out rory gallaghers, i like this one better but rory is a damn good bluesman.

  • agreed, i hate eric clapton but he does a good job here. Everyone else butcher r.j. terribly. Even eric clapton missed the boat but at least this sounds like a blues song

  • no doubt clapton is a god but wor rory's verison kicks this ones arse

  • Try Rory Gallagher

  • I don't care what anybody says, that is a great version of Walkin Blues. I usually don't bring race into it, but if Son House, Robert Johnson, and Muddy Waters were sitting around jamming, and they decided to let a white guy play, it would probably be Eric Clapton. He's not always the flashiest or even the most low down, but he gets it. And that vid there shows it.

  • Rory Gallagher

  • clapton plays like a god but hey, the rhythm is from Water's blues called Feel like going home

  • Yeah its good, but Go Rory!

  • ledge

  • his thumb doesn't go both ways. check rl burnside--that's why it sounds wrong.

  • i hate mtv

  • the last two posters must have smoked crack...

  • lol true.

  • nice version, but rory gallaghers version is better!!

  • hm, hard to say for 2 simple reasons, first of all gallagher plays it more a standard accoustic blues while this one is much more the delta blues, then claptons version is much much nearer to the original recording by robert johnson

for me this one is leagues better, even if the singing might have been a bit more powerful, but well clapton is not buddy guy^^

  • very cool but

    Rory's version kicks ass

  • Clearly don't have the Blues. This was really good. Clapton's got a good feel for the Black man's blues.

  • not only that, Clapton's got his own blues. Check out his lifestory man, he's gone through some tough stuff. But he took the energy required to pout, and learned to play the blues.

  • yes it is in G,i know cuz i play it

  • muito bom....

  • the tuning is open g..no doubt about it

  • Right you are. Open G tuning.

  • nah gotta be E

  • It's G im pretty sure

  • its in G

  • g=blues pretty much :D

  • what is his reso tuned to?

  • I think its tuned in G

  • My uncle Vinney is better than all.

  • Dont go that far. Hes good genius is Robert Johnson.

  • Clapton is a genius.

  • This song is not from EC neither from Robert Johnson. The original version is from Son House, and then Johnson done his version. It is a pity that you have Johnson as the best, but Son House blows him a way with just one note.

  • Son House is a complete genious but he himself recognised that Robert Johnson blew HIM away.

  • There is only one guy who can top that! Nice!

  • and whos that?

  • Robert Johnson himself!

  • no man ur all wrong, hes talking bout me

  • sorry but you can't reach Robert Johnson^^

  • lol, i knew that

  • I agree and after reading clapton's auto...he agrees too!

  • Compare how many years a prodigy like Clapton has performed and then think about how advanced Johnson was...and by the way Clapton's voice is never really considered like his guitar ability but is also super-natural.

  • Now here is the real Eric playing blues - and deserving the accolades.

  • EC is the reincarnation of Robert Johnson !

  • Robert Johnson is amazing, flat out amazing.

  • love his slide work XD

  • this song is fun to play

  • What happened with the other videos of "Eric Clapton- Unplugged part 1,2,3,4 etc..???

    excelent video.
