  • Just read the book and I have a feeling that im going to hate this movie

  • Something like this WILL happen. The elitist scum that control our world want the population drastically reduced. Look at how many man made viruses/diseases have sprung up in the last 30 or so years. Scary....isn't it?

  • The general is the first Embarrassing actor in this flick. His Over-Acting was silly and without serious direction. Sitting in an office chugging Johnnie Walker isn't how generals cope. And even his mental expressions are way off base for anyone in this situation. So the General sucks.

  • When I was about 15-16 and cut my leg with a saw - I found out that I was not really Squeemish about human injuries. I am just one of those that don't get sick when I see physical injuries - and I should have gone into Medicine I guess. So when I see actors throwing up at the sight of some things Physical - I kinda understand their point. But in an emergency situation - one has to put off and out of their mind their Squeemish attitudes. It isn't Strength - it is common sense and survival.

  • "We didn't get out in time after all" that is a very creepy line, every time I hear it I get chills.

  • If Hal didn't turn off his pumps this entire mess might have been avoided.

  • @AaronCherr Never thought of that. But I find it hard to believe that if they had stayed in the compound, that it would've never gotten out and still infected people.

  • @TheBookWorm1718

It's implied that the government would have called in an airstrike on the compound...but Flagg was the one manipulating this situation so it's likely it would have gotten out no matter what. However, that's only in a Dark Tower sense...if this were just a situation in our world Hal keeping his pumps on would have saved mankind.

  • @AaronCherr Maybe. However, you've got to wonder...how many people would they come into contact with on their trip in our world? Yes it's an airborne disease, but if you cough into the air....it makes it communicable, wouldn't it? The pumps remaining on may not have helped at all. However, I've never read the book so I don't know if it states they never stopped on their way. I'm analyzing fiction but...you never know.. they are creating some scary things we have no idea about....

  • @eyeslikedeceit Yeah I was thinking about that too. Okay, say the pumps were left on and they all die in a fiery mass...that's okay for Arnette, it keeps the flu from spreading any further, HOWEVER, Campion had already crossed what, 3, 4 states? All those people that he would've infected, it would be too late for them and all the other people they would've encountered.

  • I'm reading the book right now, and I can tell it's gonna take me a while to get through it. King writes long books, and the copy of the Stand I bought clocks in at over 800 pages. to put things in perspective, the whole sequence of the car crash here, which takes about 10 seconds total, took up two pages in the book.

  • love the flick but molly ringwald is horrrriibbllee in this lousy acting

  • thanks for uploading these.

  • So is it Swine or Birdie flu? :b

  • @Maeztro313 Man, I first saw this on TV a couple years ago in winter when we were just getting over the swine flu, and we heard them call it that here and I was kind of like 'AHHHH!'

  • All these guys are great actors/actresses. I would take this movie on its worst day then the current movies on their best day.

  • Country don't mean dumb, but then you gotta wonder about that guy who figured Campion's wife and kid died and he got that sick from 'some bad chow'.

  • @TheBookworm1718 the campion virus or whatever its called is highly contagious. The family that was infected with it went halfway across the country while having to stop in public areas for food and rest.

  • @PyroGamer321 Yeah but they were wondering HOW he got from California to Texas, even though he didn't have as close up contact with it as the scientists did. The guy is shocked that Campion made it so far and inquires if he was dead or alive when found...something tells me they were not counting on him being able to live so much longer than the other people at the base.

  • @TheBookWorm1718 well.. it IS just a flu after all. Each immune system is different. The plague also had victims who lived an unusually long time with it and took longer to die than the typical case. They just had better immune systems.

  • So what's the big thing about Campion managing to make it from California to Texas?

  • Anybody notice this is supposed to be June but in the rain you can see their breath?

  • And now there has been a "super virus" spreading around that even Antibiotics can't eradicate... makes u think

  • @hardnphirm87 Antibiotics don't work on any viruses.... They only work on bacterial infection. and before you say same thing. Bactria are single cell organisms...... viruses infect cells rewrite the DNA to produce more of the virus that gets released to infect more cells.. That's the short version... there is more to it then that... but you get the gist..... I hope

  • @MysticKnight38 Ok a super bacteria. wth ever.

  • @hardnphirm87 Actually there are some of those. The most common one would be Quinine resistant strain of Malaria. Viruses are defiantly the more nasty of the two. Two good examples would be Bubonic plague and Ebola with Small pox running a close third..... Bird Flu is another .......

  • BOOOOOO *thumbs down* STICK TO THE SCRIPT!!!!

  • Who cares about the words. Beggars can't be choosy :P. Thanks for posting the movie :)

  • aint the plague weird? those fleas just try to eat and that man is dying

  • I love Gary SInise in this. Totally Lt. Dan Era.

  • If only Stu hadnt shut off those gas pumps...

  • Flagg is actually the imp of the Crimson King, check out the Dark Tower.

  • @southern2716 when they talk of Jesus free people from Demons thats what we now call shizcophrenia, it was just mental illness

  • There never was a single demon called 'Legion' - that term refers to demons (plural). I wish that people would 'GET' that. When Jesus cast the demons out - he sent them into a 'herd' of pigs, not just one, ...that should be a clue to people with a brain - which I know is a tough call for religious folks. However, for those studying religious-mythology, it's obvious.

  • @MrTenshihanQuinn I know this; I'm just quoting Stephen King. In his fictional universe, there is a single demon called legion. SK is actually pretty confusing when it comes to Flagg. He says he's legion, but also the imp of crimson king, and a sorcerer who used to be mortal, along with a whole bunch of other identities. A lot of SK's work doesnt make sense because of inconsistencies like that.

  • @bumoffhtestreet I doubt they're accidental. I think Flagg is the nemesis in so many books because King believes evil takes a lot of different forms, and he becomes different things to different people. In the world of The Stand, a world without magic, he would be seen as a demon or devil. In the Keystone world of Roland, a being familiar with magic, Flagg would probably seem a lot less intimidating, especially since Roland has faced him so many times previously.

  • i think personally that either binico del toro, william dafoe or kurt russell would be great at playing randall flagg

  • Just for reference, Randall Flagg was the imp of Satan, or a prophet of Satan, just as Mother Abigail was a prophet of God. Flagg was known as 'The Walking Dude' or 'The Hard Case' by his followers.

  • @EvilPundit Flagg was actually the demon Legion. The one Jesus cast into a herd of pigs in the bible. Can't remember what page exactly, but this is explicitly stated by King.

  • @bumoffhtestreet I thought that was in Storm of the Century Andrei lenoge?

  • its apollo 13 SK style

  • Can you actually shut off gas pumps that easily...?

  • ed harris, What ???

    fantastic .

  • I just finished reading the book......

  • I have read.... Carrie, It, Misery, Under The Dome, Delores Clayborn, The Body, The Green Mile....Movies: Misery, it, Carrie, The Shining, Thinner, Cujo, Cats Eye, Green Mile, Langoliers, kingdom Hospital and a couple more I cannot remember.

  • "You can't outrun the Dark Man." Mickey Rourke as Randall Flagg.

  • the dark man sounds racist if u think bout it

  • @TheDanrox110- Well, I can see that. But that is not what the name is supposed to mean. Flagg is "The Dark Man" as in, "evil".

  • @Jurassic0Al I like "The Walking Dude." Or is that just in the novel? Anyway, Cheers!

  • @CARDUELIS999- Oh, yes. That nickname fits him well, too. I believe he is referred to by that in at least one film version of "The Stand". Not sure which one.

  • i thought they did a nice job on the casting, stu, larry, flagg and trash and lloyd are how i pictured them

  • If they remade this on HBO and made it a 12 episode miniseries it could be amazing

  • Darkman, eh? Randall Flagg vs. Peyton Westlake.

  • @IggyHazard

i didn't care for the guy they cast as flag for this series. he looked too much like my mullet wearing co-worker. couldn't take him seriously.

  • Ain't no way in Hell i'd have walked up to his ass. Police, ummm yea, this is your call

  • @hardnphirm87 You would have still caught the Superflu, in the book its 94% communicable so unless you were the lucky few survivors when the cops came to talk to you to get your statement you would have caught it.

  • M-O-O-N, that spells "Read the book, it is amazing!". Laws yes!

  • @LelouchLAMPER0UGE I've read both the original and extended edition. The extended edition was quite a bit better because it described a lot of stuff in much more detail, such as Trashman's journey.

  • @fubukifangirl I never read a Stephen King book until I visited my Aunt out of state, and her boyfriend and me got to talking about books. He had the extended edition (and it was his favorite book, out of his whole library) and he let me bring it home with me. So I can't compare to the original... But, the extended in my opinion would defenatly be much more amazing, just because it is nauturally longer. ^^

Have you read any of his other books? If so, which were your favorites?

  • @LelouchLAMPER0UGE I've read Carrie, It, Salem's Lot, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, Pet Cemetary, Misery, Rose Madder, Insomnia,Thinner, The Shining, Gerald's Game, The Running Man and The Long Walk(these were written under the name Richard Bachman), Children of the Corn(this was not really a book), Cujo, and The Tommyknockers. I want to read The Mist, Cycleof the Werewolf, and The DarkTower Series next when I have the time.

  • @LelouchLAMPER0UGE My favorites from all the Stephan King Books are The Stand, Misery, and Rose Madder. Rose Madder will likely piss you off though. It sure did me.

  • @LelouchLAMPER0UGE My favorite of his books or the scariest ? I 'm frightened by dogs and rabies, so Cujo would def be among my scariest, along with Salem's Lot , that baby vampire was horrendous... My favorites would include MIsery, IT, The TOmmyknockers, The Stand, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and Hearts in Atlantis.... also Duma Key

  • @LelouchLAMPER0UGE (Pulls out a pen and notepad) *Writes* Sure is, Tom, Sure is.

  • @LelouchLAMPER0UGE ...good one :)

  • @LelouchLAMPER0UGE ...well said! LOL !!

  • Why lock up that one town? What about all the others the guy passed through?

  • @Tempe1962 Because they have no way of knowing which route he took and just how many towns he went through. It's expensive and difficult enough shutting down one town, much less dozens.

  • Gary Sinise is excellent in this.

  • @lothartheterrible when is he not :) lol

  • @lothartheterrible ...he sure is !

  • @lothartheterrible Lt. Dan never fails

  • Ray McKinnon survived Leland Gaunt on Castle Rock only to die from a man made virus... lol

  • I would not have gone no where hear that guy... He's gagging and looks like hell yet this guy is holding him. STUPID, smh.

    P.S. thanks for uploading.

  • the is way better, but King updated the book, why not this series! it's still good and hard to find on dvd! Thanks B27!

  • Very good job separating chapters. Love this movie.

  • in the book i believe the car was going around 5 mph not 50 !

  • well...there's a .01% chance that nothing will happen.

  • My name is Randall :(

  • I love how Ed Harris' character knows its all over from the start

  • ooooh scarry randal flaggs a ginger :P thanks for uploading these i remember my ma makin me watch with this with her when i was a kid itl probably be way better without her tellin me to cover my eyes every five seconds lol

  • @fuzzyelfxiii - Well, of course. Flagg has no soul, after all!

    -ba dum tss-

  • I remember reading the book many years ago - but did they show this in the UK? I don't remember this. Seems worth watching tho...

  • @SisterSeventies It was on uk TV about 12 years or so ago possibly more!

  • I wish they would make a movie actually based on the Book.

  • @thomasandtanga

    I agree.

Nontheless, I do feel they chose alot of great actors for the roles.

Despite how many characters they left out.

  • Love Ed Harris...

  • Are we heading for this?

  • @voiceofelijah2012 Quite possibly, yes.....

  • The Hot Zone is completely disgusting. Yuck.

  • Now that Marvel has started covering it, I wonder if they could do it "Sin City" style.

  • @esands3

Marvel doesn't exist anymore lol :(

  • It's a pretty terrifying story when you think about it.

  • i loved the book it was awesome!!!

  • This miniseries did some things right, but on the whole, it's just not very good filmmaking. If only a real director had taken over and the production had had more to it than just TV values.

  • I wonder if I'm the only chick who thinks Gary Sinise is so damn good looking. I even thought he was cute in Forrest Gump. I think I have a thing for Gary Sinise.

  • @bebegunn7 i second that!

  • project blue?

    PRICELESS

  • Stu immunized himself.

  • I can't blame Campion. He was just trying to protect his family, I might've done the same thing. But it's just not right, it's just not right that he had to shut down that base. I don't know why...

  • I love this book so much, the Dark Tower is still my favorite

  • in the book wasnt Stu kinda... slow? I think thats how King described him

  • @DarkWolf77 i wouldnt say slow by any means.. just may not have made as much of himself as he could have...

  • @permy7 hmmm I thought I read someplace that Stephen King himself said that Stu was a little slow at times... oh well to each his own I guess...

  • @DarkWolf77 SPOILER COMMENT I never read it in english (im from sweden).. but theres a small passage near the end of the book where stu thinks about his old friends and he mentions what they used to call him. roughly translated to english "They always called him Quiet(mute)Stu , old Stu they said wouldn't say 'Shit' even if his mouth was full of it".... so not slow.. maybe just quiet xD

  • @kickar yes but I remember seeing someplace an interview with King who said that Stu was kinda slow... But ok whatever its not really a big deal

  • @DarkWolf77 Yea, no big deal. I guess it's in the eye of the beholder to call him slow. Great book never the less!

  • @DarkWolf77

nope, your thinking of tom. stu was with franny, he lead the committee of the free world and was the head of law enforcement in boulder.

  • @DarkWolf77 If memory serves - he was not very educated (had to work at an early age) but was plenty intelligent.

  • I wish they would re-make this mini-series now that it has been 16 years since this was on t.v. I can only hope ya know!

  • @lms662002 i heard they are gonna remake the movie series but i prefer getting the marvel comics version of the stand since im too lazy to read the book and the comic is just interesting as the movie since the comics are about 60% of the book and 20% of the movie and 20% original stuff. but i want to get the stand on blu-ray, god willing if it will ever make it.

  • @lms662002 yeah you could make a year long series out of the unabridged book

  • @lms662002

as great as a remake would be, i fell in love with these characters and the way hollywood is i'm afraid it would just get ruined.

i don't have any problem with justin bieber but i can't see him as stu redmond. miley cyrus takes over for molly ringwald as fran?

yes, i understand they're too young for those parts. that's kinda my point.

  • @lms662002 Only remake it if they turn it into a trilogy. It's the only way to do justice to this immense story..

  • @lms662002 well, King waited years to even make a miniseries. Now it could be done right in a movie trilogy. People like trilogies and long movies again and the fan base is definitely there. The effects, too. This is one of those things where the casting has to be perfect. King wanted Lowe as Flagg not the guy who did play him. I need to go back and read the book. Lately I;ve been thinking about it and my favorite characters.

  • @lms662002 i agree! but the origanal was so good and on point with the book that there ain't no need for a remake

  • @lms662002 They just announced they are going to make a new movie adaptation of "The Stand" - they will probably break it into two movies because of its length.

  • @lms662002 They are! Into a movie though... check out imdb.com/title/tt1831804/

  • @lms662002 My friend, your prayers have been answered. There is word in Hollywood that there is a theatrical version of The Stand being considered. Stephen King even wrote a little article about it.

  • @lms662002 That would be great! Although I really would want Gary Sinise to return to reprise his role as East Texas... No one could replace him! Or any of them for that matter...

  • @lms662002 Why remake it? I think this version is great just as it is ::D (And yes, I don't think in general that "remakes" are that great, even if they have more advanced technology today)

  • when the young jump from the shoulders of giants, then the wisdom of the elders is useless.

  • I feel like I need to bathe after watching this... *shudder*

  • Gary Senise is great in this movie.

  • Hell yes he is!

  • @KMdog82 Gary Sinise is great! =]

  • @KMdog82 He was totally Texas.

  • " bodhitaichi"mo but obviously you are dumb ass

  • Gary sinise, yeh csi Ny

  • Is that the guy from SCI New York?

  • no it's liutenant Dan from Forrest Gump

  • Stu's a souped up version of Typhoid Mary.

  • Not Campion. Sorry. The General.

  • Ed Harris playes the role of General Starkey. So I think this is pretty much a yes. (check imdb)

  • Is that Ed Harris as Campion?

  • Wow ... it is now painfully obvious to me what Stephen King was referring to in the introduction of this novel ... there really is no way in the world they could have made a movie from a book that is so good. I've read the book and haven't watched the series yet, but looking at part1 and 2 of this upload, i'm pretty sure nothing will ever be better than the novel. Thanks for the upload, but I really wish the producer would have put in my hard work as Stephen King did. Again, THE GREATEST NOVEL!!

  • i read the book too. it was GREAT!!! but i like seeing at least SOME of it on screen....

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting this flick!

One of my faves. Had on VHS, but a tape broke...=(

  • thomasandtanga, i agree!

  • if u people r thumbing down cos u think O is great, u r soooo deceived. see the series Left Behind. i dont believe in the secret rapture, but everything Carpathia did, O is doing. like killing his grandmother.

  • Can't make sense of what you said. o.O;

  • boy, u people r so stupid. well, u'll find out when O kills u all, or puts u in concentration camps. google operation cable splicer & many others. i feel sorry 4 u. many people r fleeing the US bc they SEE IT

  • @mrsgoatlady77 aw he won't do that.. he'll just make it so that every time you get a raise, you're taking home a smaller percent of your overall profit. That's what they do here in canada. I recently got a small raise. I jumped a tax bracket. now i can't afford my rent anymore. My raise means i have to live in a cheaper house now.

no you're a dramaqueen. I know the type. Everything is exaggerated, everything is gigantic and epic. In reality, your lives will just suck a little more from now on.

  • I love this movie i just wish i had it on dvd...

  • start reading the book, mate.

i think you gonna enjoy it even more than series :]

  • i agree , must have read it 2 or 3 times.

  • the book is much better, more people and more detail. He wanted to make the movie longer but they said peole wouldnt watch it if it were any longer.

  • yea, this movie makes me sick

  • @kithrakat These days they are making season long mini-series like Harper's Island. I could see this done with The Stand. Heck they would have content for years if they made a tv show out of his Gun Slinger series.

  • @kithrakat Hell yeah they would.

  • @kithrakat I think now a days as much as new movies really suck they would watch it

  • @kithrakat

the book really dragged for a while during the middle but it was (as are a lot of king's books) great for a 'getting into it' book. it's almost winter...about time to check out "the shining" again. that and john carpenter's "the thing" are two of my favourite winter time movies.

  • @jen8933 The Stand did not drag on as bad as King's other books like "It"...To me the Stand is one of king's best. His ability to create such dynamic character personalities is amazing, Its one of the best Post Apocalyptic novels I have read.

  • @jrpone

i tried to read "It" but couldn't get into it.

but that said there have been very few of kings books or short stories that aren't great reading.

when i was in my 20s i was reading his story "the crate". i was reading in bed and when it was time to go to sleep i was afraid to get up to turn off the light:)

  • @jen8933 I recommend Nightmares and Dreamscapes. I found the short stories in it engaging and easy to read. Chattery Teeth, Popsy, The Moving Finger, Rainy Season, Suffer the Little Children, and You Know They Have a Hell of a Band were particularly good.

  • @kithrakat Did you read the extended edition? It had a bunch of stuff Stephan King left out of the original.

  • I must have read this book a a thousand times, the movie isn't exact with the book but portrays it really well. Thank you for posting this : ) Its been a while since I've seen it

  • read "The Hot Zone" it's much more frightening when things are real...

  • I've read Hot zone and the stand...

    Biological weapons are terrifying.

  • Thank you for posting this. It must have been a lot of work. Thanks.

  • Randall Flagg isn't the devil.....its said many times.

  • @kingarth143 It's implied in the book that he is the Anti-Christ.

  • if you watch it all the way through it turns out the dark man is the devil...its the apocolypse and the ones that are unaffected are gods chosen..you'l see if you watch the entire thing.

  • Ok I don't know about the movie because this is my first time seeing it, but in the book it clearly states that 1. Flagg is not the Devil. He is only a messenger of the Devil, not the Devil himself. 2. It's not the apocalypse, merely a wager between God and the Devil to see whose side will win the fate of humanity. And 3. Once again No. Not EVERY unaffected person is one of Gods chosen. Some of the survivors go to Flaggs side.

  • He's not the Devil! Fuck, are you stupid?

  • This was Stephen Kings best novel imo. I just finished reading the extended and uncut edition.

  • I repeat myself. If is a June evening in Texas, why the fuck can we see their breath?

  • dramatic effect?

  • True, that's weird...
