Simon, I almost always use your method of sticking pots to wheel for trimming, but without a foot pedal, you should see me trying to catch them when they come loose! Grab for switch with one hand and pot with the other! Quite exciting!
So... you're not in spain any more? Geeze, there are many videos I still have to see. Started with the jug, then the butter dish, then the two part bottle, now the kneading and bowl making.... waaay to go. I keep watching.
Thanx Simon: I recently made 2 turning tools, like the one you're using, and they are also chattering. I made them really sharp, so I'll grind them down a little and see if that reduces the chattering.
Simon, I don't want to badger you. But I'd love to get a hold of one of those took kits you made a while back! If you made a new batch of them to sell on your site, I'd definately buy one
Wow lost my first post. Thanks Simon this video will help me considerably been having a problem with trimming;-} Saw the new Leach Pottery video was great but why don't they have a section for the remaining Leach potters???Shame on them! Sorry about the accident glad to see your okay! Have a great day & say Hi! to Jeni for me! Karen
Hi again, just wanted to let you know that since Mom passed I have been a bit tight with money ,other wise I would be there this week-end! Hope all goes well! Karen
Hi Simon, Glad your okay to bad about the car, dumb tree! This clip may help me quit a bit I have been having a problem trimming lately, think the pots are to soft or maybe I'm working to hard but the way you trim should make some good changes in my trimming;-) One can only hope;-} I watched the new video of Leach Pottery it's wonderful, but I do agree that they should be carrying than area for the remaining Leach potters! Thanks again! Looking for part 2 Have a great day & say Hi! to Jeni
Hi Again, I just searched for "leach pottery, St. Ives" and got a wonderful update on the pottery there. It is heart warming to know that your grandfathers legacy is being preserved so wonderfully. They should however have an additional wing to feature yours, Johnny's, and Jeremys work to make it complete don't you think!!! In the mean time, stay out of those snow banks up there, there usually is something hiding in them like a tree or a BIG rock!!!!!
Thanks for sharing Simon- Enjoyed it and will hold you to continuing (blasted phone!) Sorry about the car, but glad to hear your ok. Will look for that youtube clip as well. Not seeing any adds to click, but have a video add that comes on before your clip each time; Prefer clicking really. Has anyone else noticed youtube not working too well since all the format changes?
Hi Simon, It's always a joy to listen to you talk about your start in pottery. Ya know what "they" say. ."If it wasn't for individuals there would be no variety in life, without variety life would be very boring" Thank you for being the individual you are!!!
Warm regards from Debbie in down-right cold Florida LOL!!
im useing a clay simaler to what you discribe usieng here. its called BEE MIX . good stuff. simaler to porslin or taricata. i also made a tool like that. i bit more crube but it works.
@joealanouf B mix is similiar to porcelain but not at all similiar to tericota or the raku body Simon is using. B mix and porcelain are highfire clays while tericota and raku clays are lowfire. Tericota is used to make earthenware pots and is high in iron, and raku clay is used for raku. Not to be harsh, just thought you should know.
I wish I had a tool like that

If any Leach fans want to help the original Barnard Leach pottery restoration project, you can click to vote for the £100,000 Art Fund Prize.
I can't post anything close to a link here, but if you google the phrase "Art Fund Prize" and click the first link, you can click on "
Vote for your favourite" and help.
It's fast and easy, and will help preserve the Leach legacy as Simon does with his work. Go vote!

The Leach Pottery is at 21% as of 06/03/10, second to Blists Hill Victorian Town .
Come on you potters! It is as easy to vote as PotteryGarage said!
A truly worthwhile 2 minutes!

what are blancs?
rwheeler67 2 years ago
blanks are like test pieces, not intended to bear the potter's personal stamp.
