  • I read that the meaning of the song was that a person can contribute so much to society but he is forgotten simply because what he does is taken for granted, all his life's work is put in a whole and forgotten. She got the idea of using the coffins in the song cuz her previous bf was in a punk band and he had to build a coffin for the cover of his bands album. I love F+TM their music is so metaphoric

  • @feleck21 hole not whole

  • i love this song..

  • I really like this song.. And I'm not even sure why? I guess it's because her voice is so pure, and she hardly needs auto-tune. She sounds beautiful, and she IS beautiful at that.

The lyrics are amazing too. I really don't know what the meaning is, but I still love them. There unique.

  • I just put 6 people in coffin's.... >=)

  • You guys should check out the demo version of this songs. its more jazz style, fuckin awesome

  • one of my favourite florence songs

  • fav songs (in order) from Florence and the Machine

    1. my boy builds coffins

    2. rabbit-hearted girl

    3. between two lungs

    4. cosmic love

    5. falling

    6. howl

    7. blinding

aw, hell, I just love them all. that's pretty rare that I find a band that I'm absolutely in love with every song, but this is it :)

  • @HagarenXneko SAME. EXACT. LIST.

  • im obsessed.

  • This song is not long enough. I love it so much but it ends far too soon. Oh well. -abuses the replay button-

  • Wow, great lyrics. I could never have a boyfriend who does that!

  • i ♥ this song ☺

  • Idk what you guys are talking about this song sucks! AAAHH i was just struke by lightning for blasphemy,

  • Favorite song from Florence And The Machine.

  • @xXGUMIIBEARZXx Same here! My second favorite is Drumming song. What about you?

  • @ilovefluers Howl for sure!

  • @xXGUMIIBEARZXx Cool gotta love Howl!

  • I love living in Britain and being able to be proud of such good singers!!!!

  • This song is beautiful.

  • This could easily be a great poem when written down on paper! Love Florence ;L

  • 1:10- 1:30 I can't even explain how beautiful that is. <3

  • I think what she's trying to express with this song is that death reaches us all. Every life has an end. So that's why 'her boy builds coffins' for pretty much everyone. Love it!

  • best...........song...................ever

  • The lyrics give me chills...

  • this song is sooooooooooooooooo creepy!! ...but i love it!! ;P

  • This song is about how everyone can be different in life, and have such different views, but in the end we all just die. I really like this

  • Isnt it for "better or worst" not of.

  • Looked up the song meaning, turns out its literal, she had a boyfriend who built coffins.

  • @IPodFreak908 She said that in one of her intervews . :)

  • @IPodFreak908 haha sort of, he built on coffin for the cover of a band album, and it got her on the tangent of what it must be like to be the coffin builder, so he wasnt a coffin builder he was in a band, but he did build one ;)

  • @IPodFreak908 I think it came from a literal story, but the way shes phrased it, it just seems to, well for me at least, talk about how death is the great equaliser.

  • @SmileChicky Umineko reference, perchance?

  • @IPodFreak908

A lil morbid. I'd be fairly disturbed if my boyfriend built coffins...then made one for me.

However can't deny she's got a good song out of the story.

  • @Crownedkitty I guess it is a little morbid, but I think the point of the song was that everyone dies, and the boy has come to terms with and accepted death by building his own (and his girlfriend's) coffin. Plus, I bet it'd be a really nice coffin too. XD

  • Could it be that her boy is a criminal???

  • @lovingistheway she must tell her mama! =) xoxo

  • This song describes undertaker from the anime black butler to a t

  • @GublerRussia That's the first thing I thought of when my friend said the name of this song. The lyrics describes him perfectly! xD

  • @RadiantSereneChaos Thank you I'm not the only one! I can so see Grell singing this.... ya I'm a Grell and Undertaker lover. I can't help it there both awesome!!!! Probably the best anime pairing ever! ;)

  • @GublerRussia I have a friend who's the self proclaimed wife of Undertaker, so that's the pairing I think of. xP

  • My goodness. She sings from such a dark and tortured place. Her voice reminds me of a wailing spirit...

  • This is my favorite Florence + the Machine song but I like the acustic one better. But this is still good:)

  • wow. extremely good. her voice is amazing but i love the dark twist in this song in particular :).

  • I'm usually into pop, R&B, Owl City, etc. but this song is hauntingly beautiful and so artistic.

  • @adamyoungfan56 Owl City Has It's Own Music Genre O.O

  • @kisuketoshiro34 "it's"! haha! Hilarious!

  • @kisuketoshiro34 omg i never get top comment and i finally did :D "SQUEEEEE"

  • @kisuketoshiro34 do you watch bleach? :o

  • @vampivampire yup!! :3 Kisuke and Toshiro are the best!! :D

  • @kisuketoshiro34 ikr!? :D my 2 faves

  • @vampivampire though I like Grimmjow, and Ulquiorra too

  • @kisuketoshiro34 yeah Ulquiorra is my second fave tying with Kisuke, how far are you innto bleach?

  • @vampivampire i don't remember I know that they're in the Zanpukto ark right now

  • @kisuketoshiro34 wht genre would that be? o_0 ~totally unrelated though i think

  • @kitkat4973 Owl City would be considered Electronica.

  • @kisuketoshiro34 Ya its called mimicking Postal Service and to a lesser degree the original Death Cab.

  • @kisuketoshiro34 yeah its called horribleness

  • Does anybody find it weird that this song and men of snow are my favorite songs?

  • @ElizaSerenity Not at all. (:

  • This song has always meant something special to me, mainly because my boyfriend does make coffins for a living and he is like a death dealer himself. I love this song so much, and realizing that her 'boy' is death itself make it even better for me.

  • @200mnm Wow! I wish I had a boyfriend who made coffins. :3

  • I like this. It just appeared to me that this "boy" is death.. Now I like it even better, if possible. (:

  • @preuwi It just appeared to you? One of the top comments says that it's death lmao.

  • @KymMorganMakeup I was watching another video without lyrics, and it didn't say in the tp comments, so yes, it just appeared to me. (:

  • @preuwi So you decided to go onto another video of the song and post this? I understand.

  • @KymMorganMakeup I listened to other songs afterwards, and when it appeared to me, I wanted to hear it again, and the other video wouldn't work for some reason. Might sound shitty, but I'm not lying. -.-'

  • it would be pretty rad if Florence Welch's boy make my coffin :P

  • love this song

  • I'm 12 yrs old and Florence & The Machine is my all time favorite band ever. all my friends like the mainstream pop crap and awful disney channel singers like selena gomez. I like music that tells a story. That has lyrics haunting enough to stick with you after you hear them. music that gives you chills. makes you think. keeps you guessing. Florence & The Machine NEEDS to be more popular than it is. This band is incredible.

  • @STARWARSLOVER10 omg same!!!! my friends like that pop shit! that has no meaning no soul!!! thats why i love florence she has meaning (and hes pretty and has a great voice!)

  • Anyone who dislikes this song is as drunk as Florence was when they wrote it;DD

  • comment. lol

  • I wish I could live in the UK where they have good music instead of Mainstream America. -.-

  • @bleepgoesbl00p Canada have better music less crime and cheaper land we how do you guys get the title land of the free home of the brave maybe its because you got to be brave to live in a place with lots killers and rapist on the loose

  • @deadpool514 dude, calm down =)

  • @madsindeep13 sorry im just really patriotic

  • @bleepgoesbl00p so fuckin true

  • @jrtech0 Painfully true

  • @bleepgoesbl00p I blame my parents for it everyday.

  • @iheartjessesmanscarf I do too haha

  • @bleepgoesbl00p Much as I agree with your endorsement of both Florence and Britain in general...

    Hipster.

  • @Gyrfalcon42 hahaha!

  • @bleepgoesbl00p florence and the machine is pretty mainstram too lol. i see them performing on tv often enough and hear them on mainstream radio stations

  • @bleepgoesbl00p what main stream?

  • @bleepgoesbl00p yeah y is all the good stuff like Florence and Harry Potter from the UK?

  • @ilovefluers I have no idea -.-

  • @ilovefluers because america drowns everyone who could even possible write something good in pop culture and shitty music. :(

  • @NobodyDaGreekOne yeah or throws them in shark tanks. double :(

  • 3 people didn't get a coffin made for them:P

  • I want this boy. honestly.

    :D

  • i heard this somewhere ... but i cant remeber where

  • This song has to be a metaphor for God. She has stated that she likes Gospel music and church-like music a lot. If this isn't bout God then I'm a retard and I should be hung...

  • @SPPorygonZ It sure sounds like it (: I thought someone said it was about her ex boyfriend who actually made coffins for a living but I can't be sure and I don't know where the post is.

  • @SmokenTotalled Yeah I saw that somewhere too. I mean I'm sure that was the inspiration but truly when I first heard the song I was like this is about God and as I kept listening to it I was like yeah defenitely bout God

  • @SPPorygonZ It isn't about God, it is about death. It can't be about God, because it says "He's built one for himself." God can't die!

  • @Dasiepooh But can Death die as well? Then, both sides are redundant. I still believe she is talking about Death, but it just doesn't make sense.

  • I wish i could build coffins for a living

  • Daniel Radcliffe once said this song reminded him of Harry. Whenever I listen he's all I hear.

  • some say its a blessing some say its a curse ♥

  • I think Florence is using the coffins as a metaphore when she says He makes them all different and loves each one but they all end up in the ground, so The boy is God, the coffins are people, and the coffins going in the ground are the people dieing.

  • @xILoveChrisColferx

I was thinking something similar. God (or the higher diety of your choice) creates, but also must play the role of Death, sort of like the boy who creates only for something that must occur (that's why the King, Queens, beggars, liars, gypsies, and theives can easily please him, because they all will do that one thing eventually).

  • What if you're cremated? Checkmate, Florence.

  • Only Florence can make such a strange song sound like its the most normal thing in the world.... But thats why we love her right? :) <33333

  • its funny...funerals are for the living that are left behind.

  • My favorite song by her <3

  • This song is about Jesus/God. Im not even Christian...just think about it.

  • @MescudiLife no its not, its about death...its basically saying "everyone dies"

  • @ArchAustin59 Agreed its totally not about god or jesus. Its about death

  • @ArchAustin59 No, it's actually very literal. Florence wrote this about her boyfriend at the time who built a coffin for the cover of his CD. ;)

  • It's kinda sad, saying it doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, we're all gonna end up the same... Dead. But it was kinda funny, he did work hard to make a beautiful and unique coffin, but then it ends up buried in the dirt. Dark humor x)

  • Total thumbs up!!! LOVE Florence!!! But htis song is a bit strange. But thats what I like!

  • thumb up if u think that we should build coffins for the 3 people !

  • I love this song, the way she describes a death by using so many metaphors. It is truly amazing.

  • It's literal, but still good.

  • One of my best guy friend's brother died a few weeks ago. They played this song at his funeral.

  • @splendorpoet Sorry for ur loss. But isn't that a strange song to play at a funeral? I was thinking Luther Vandross or Celine Dion to play at a funeral...amazing song, but i question whether it is approriate for a funeral.

  • I adore this song! I love how 'her boy' represents death itself.

  • @MsYanaGirl what i clever way of thinking i truly thought her boy was a mortician but that is a very cool thought =)

  • @TheBizarregothgyrl82 Haha, thank-you! :)

  • everyone needs a coffin.

  • @crazysingerr99 LoL!!!!!!! Oh my word.... That made me laugh! =D

  • I've never thought about a coffin builder. That could be a cool profession...

  • i love florence, her music is incredible. <3

  • Everyone dies, no matter the curcimstance or the value of the person.

  • @noms3735

    GET OUT OF TOWN.

  • @person71591 Yeah, yeah im serious! Betchya thought it couldnt happen huh? (:

  • this is kinda depressing but i still luv it! :D

  • Amazing. What isn't really acknowledged is how much this song is about people as much as it is about death.

  • i love this song how it says that no matter how u live we eventually all die but how we die depends?...............:)

  • i keep listening to this song and Family Force 5 - Wake the dead............... lol

  • It's morbid but it's so true.

  • Basically the songs's saying that Everyone Is going to DIE at some point in time no matter how rich or poor.

Its Inevitable ppl!!!! Love this song!

  • This song is so interesting.. it reminds me of some creepy fairy tale or book or something.. it's soo awesome!!

  • I love this song! It reminds me of the Undertaker from Kuroshitsuji.

  • @crystalheart857 I completely agree!! :D

  • @crystalheart857 that's what it reminded me of too! XD

  • FOR YOU " "

  • Not strange - true: everybody dies someday!

  • 1:26 that part just makes me melt

  • ah the inevitability of death...

  • i just raped the replay button i luv this song

  • personally my favorite off the album
