  • you da man. i have a question though. i have always closed my left eye when shooting. is this good or bad? normal? just never hear anyone talk about it. thanks for the help

  • @YFZism check to see if you are left eye dominant - frequently people who are using the non-dominant eye (probably the left eye in this case) have to close the dominant eye so they can get the proper eye alignment...

i'm new to archery... thank you.

  • Good video man, thanks a lot :)

  • only i can hold it steady

  • luv the tips!!

  • I am an "intermediate" shooter. I thought the best way to learn archery was to take tips from all of the archerers that I know that have shot for years. I was wrong. I watched this video and realized that most everyone shoots with some sort of defect in their form. After watching this video, I used the tips that Jake gives, and within 20 shots, I was hitting center bull time and time again. Even when I miss I can retrace my steps and find my error. Great Video !!!!

  • loved the video

  • Concise, well thought out, step by step.

This video shows you the most important part of shooting a bow.

    Thanks Jake

  • awsome, every fact in one video, makes it really easy. thank you

  • Great video, thanks. your thoughts on putting the target at the same height as the arrow when you draw the bow naturally. Example a person 5'7" has a different ground to arrow height than a person 6'1'. A person can on the level at the indoor range after sighting in there bow this way shoot a bullseye with there eyes closed. A trick we used in the military. If the target is the same height with the bow sighted in at 20 yards you can then close your eyes and hit the target very close each time.

  • great movie. :D

  • good tips

  • GREAT VIDEOOO!

  • The first useful shooting vid I've seen!

  • nice tips,

  • EXTREMELY helpful. i just got a new razor edge for x-mas and was kinda dissapointed that i cant shoot much in the winter, but after watching this i realize i have a lot i can work on inddors (form!)

  • great tips...especially the one about the anticipation of the bow shooting...thats exactly wat ive been doing...that release grip u talked about will help im sure...thanks

  • good tips but nice bow gotta be a mathews hey

  • gd tips

  • This has been the best video I've found concerning the fundamentals of shooting a bow. It hits all the important factors for any new bow hunter, such as myself. Thanks for sharing.

  • id love to see some video tips on shooting with 3 fingers. I hunt with my father and grandfather and they are old school with the fingers. I know i will achieve more accuracy and consistency with a release but i'm not switching....so. any tips would be nice.

  • This one video tells me more than all the expertvillage videos on youtube.

  • @Jamobra About half way thru this video i was thinkin that exact same thing! great video. thanks archery country

  • so true man haha

  • @Jamobra i hate expert village! way to basic and short! sometimes it even shows false info!

  • @Jamobra dittos for me too

  • Nice video. Thanks alot.

  • Thank you so so so much,

    Great advise!

Can you also also give a video about revurve shooting?

How do you aime without peepsight.(anchor points).

    Thanks!

  • thanks great video

  • that was i fucking awesome and helpful thanks bunches for the vid please keep them comin man

  • Awsome tips

  • Awesome video really really helpful.

  • Great Video. From start to finish you have given great advice. The only thing I can add to what you have told and shown is when you go out to practice focus on one thing. Especially when you are learning correct form. Dont try to practice to many things at once because your muscle memory will not benfit as much. Once you have correct form and shot then you can focus on more than one thing.

  • Interestring (get it?) video. Thanks Jake.

  • your videos have been helpful to me scince i saw them for the first time. 5/5

  • haha i love the huge hoyt banner in a video where he's using a mathew's bow

  • Great Job man, this was very helpful as a young bowman.

  • this was very helpful vid thanx

  • Your not kidin Sideshowbobx. This video was extremely helpful. Thanks Jake

  • this is a brilliant video. ive been shooting for 26 years and i still found it very helpful. it reminded me of my martial arts training in that every step, every motion, is euqualy important. the trigger finger tip was great. keep the videos coming. i look forward to visiting your shop. this is an example of true bow expertise and knowledge of the craft.

  • Good video. I'm going to get my first bow this week and your information was helpful.

  • Now this is finally a video on archery with some information content to it, not like the useless "expertville - idiot hill" BS.

Thanks for making this great video on how to get started in archery.

  • Great vid!! I actually learned something. Thanks

  • thanks for posting

  • Very good and useful advise thank you

  • yes every1 never lsiten to expert village they try to give to much information. and dont explain anything

  • Thanks...very helpful.

  • Great vid, the tips help somewhat. the one thing i do disagree on is the holding the bow in place until the arrow has hit the target, i was always taught to leave my front hand open and relaxed so when i do pull the trigger on the relase i dont jerk with my front hand, the bow follows threw with the arrow. But not cutting on your vid just thats what works for me, i did enjoy the vid tho thanks.

  • nice tips

  • Great video I have replayed it 20 times and get something extra each time.

I hope all your comments are as good.

    Thanks a lot

  • good vid

  • This video pretty much blows eHow and expertvillage out of the water. I learned more from this short video then I have learned from almost all of the other videos I have seen on YouTube.

Thank you very much for posting. =)

  • Thanks so much for this information! Very helpfull!!!

  • haha, everyones using compound bows these days huh? i cant stand them :P im old fashion, good old recurve :D

  • their better for beginners and older people but some use recurves...the guy teaching me to shoot uses a #56 canadian checkmate recurve...said he payed AU$13,00 for it...

  • sweeeeeeeeet

  • im fifteen and i am male.

  • cannot belive^^

  • THANKS FOR THE VIDEO

  • great video. thanks

  • tnx

  • Good advice video.

  • Damn BRO!

Simlpy THE beat 8 minutes of archery instruction I have seen!

MORE. MORE! and a little slower.

    Cover stance -Foot placement.

  • good vid and advice for a new shooter.

    Thanks

  • Good Advice!

  • hey i've been having trouble puting the pin on the bulls eye, and then keeping it in the general area. got any tips?

  • you could always try a stabilizer

  • try focusing on the target and your subconcious mind will keep the pin on your target. I know it sounds crazy but an old guy gave me that advice and it worked for me

  • great video id like to see some more

  • good tips, only thing i noticed that seemed weird, which idk y but when he shot @ 8:00 he had a closed grip but when he released he opened up his hand right away when he released..

  • Really great video kudos

  • buy a new one

  • thnx i use the techniques more often now

  • New to the sport very helpful thanx a lot.
