The closest you can get to old-norwegian nowadays is Icelandic, as they have kept the language more or less alive since the 1300's. Norwegian has transformed and developed since then, and, the Norweigan we have now is a combination of dialects, Swedish, and Danish. Written Norwegian is refined Danish, whereas oral Norwegian is more similar to Swedish. It's researched and proven. Stop the debate - this is just an old form of dialect.
Icelandic is a language with its origin in "norrøn" witch was the language of the norwegian vikings. These two languages are different, but has a lot of resemblences. However, "Old norwegian" is the way they spoke after the age of vikings, and is different because of, like you said, danish, swedish, but also the new influences like cristianity etc, witch resulted in a big change of our language, meaning these lyrics are not in iclandic! its norwegian dialects
I'm from Norway, and I can try to answer your questions.
This song isn't "old-norwegian", 'coz that language died out when the black death (a disease which killed almost more than one third of the Norwegian population). Since then our language has been affected by danish and swedish. So this is a mix between old norwegian and the new, modern norwegian :)
I think it is nice that you try, but "old Norwegian" is now what we call Icelandic, as they havent really "developed" much in their language they keep speaking as Norwegian used to before Norway went into an union with Denmark.
@lurifaks92 That is a fallacy. It's not Icelandic as a language stood still for like a milennium. An Icelandic friend of mine was completely unable to understand "norse" text (13th century).
Hvorfor gir dere meg tommel ned da, brødhoder? "Synger ikke på nynorsk kjære deg. synger på alt fra gammelnorsk til neskrevne dialekter." Sitat Sveinung Sundli.
Carry the message even if the burden is heavy Don't let us down, you who are young Don't listen if they scream you're a coward if your crown quakes, your roots are strong Let the thought of peace fill your whole mind and do not let doubt intrude No one can build with a sword in hand That is not how you strengthen your land We will preserve life along the path we walk no one can harvest where the planter is Death Flowers ill bloom and the grass it will grow We will not soak the ground in blood
@Kathgor Thats a modern written language of Norway, because of the mountains, valleys and fjords we have one of the highest number of dialects in any language (Only Italy has more?). So these old dialects are very different from bokmål.

Really wish I knew what they were saying.

Here's the lyrics translated, may contain some mistakes:)
bring forth the message if the burden is heavy.
don't let us down you who are young.
don't listen if they shout that you're a coward
If your crown shakes, then your root is tough.
let the peacethought fill all of your mind
And don't let the doubt get in
No one shall build with sword in hand
That's not how you run/own? your country

We shall guard life along the road we walk
no one can harvest where death sows
flowers shall bloom and the grass shall grow
we shall not defile the earth with blood
you who are young,
you who are not young and don't let us down you who are young.
