  • this film is truly amazing

  • WHO KNOWS THE NAME OF THE SONG AT THE END?! (C'est belle :3)

  • That last line was cut from the final movie.

  • oh shit there in the t.v wow

  • おもしろかった

  • Love this movie....one of my fav....ever.

  • Fantastic films, so maining hidden meanings ugh brilliant!

  • Yeah, I live in Pleasantville, NY. Not everything is all perfect as they describe in the movie. hahha. ironic

  • I'm on Youtube!? WTF!?

  • So does this mean if they were watching something diffrent like Inception or Planet of the apes would they totally be screwed??

  • One perfect thing about a time like this was that their was a lot less absurdity regarding "political correctness". Nowadays, everyone is offended by everything and anything. And read into the most benign statements.

Life has its up's and down's for everyone. No one is exempt or special.

  • This movie is definitely on my all time favourites list. Seen it many times. I get emotional just watching this trailer. My favourite scene is in the diner when they plug in the juke-box and the girls can't help tapping their foot to Buddy Holly's, Rave On. Then there's the scene when William H. Macy says, "Honey I'm home." and there's no one home. Or the scene when Reese says, "You can pin me any time." But it's the theme of the movie that has me watching it again and again. GREAT MOVIE!

  • fantabolous movie true peice of art

  • 1950's is my favorite era...and I'm only 21 yrs. old.

  • @ChocoSyrupOnMyAbs It's mine too and I'm only 22. I'm a huge fan of retro

  • What ahppened at the end? Jennifer (Reese Witherspoon), stayed at Pleasantville? Why?

  • @ChocoSyrupOnMyAbs she wanted to continue her education there

  • @ChocoSyrupOnMyAbs She found a better life.

  • @ChocoSyrupOnMyAbs Because she could attend college there, and she would continue helping them to get more "normal". I've seen a FAQ in which they state a week there means half an hour in the real world, so after those years, it'd be like she was out for the weekend only.

  • like this film a lot, especially there was a part in the movie they got curious there was no fire in a black in white.

  • this film is beautiful!!

  • @hinnies1 like what? To think freely, to accept all life offers and not try to block out all things "unpleasant"?

  • @zombiefan011 So we should accept murder, rape and robbery and not condemn those actions as well? Because I'm sure not all people consider those things "unpleasant", but actually think these things are what makes life fun.

  • @LCash523 that's not what this movie or myself are saying the message is that bigotry and censorship are wrong and that a "perfect" world can't exist

  • You know, theres not a single black person in this entire movie

  • @candyapplecarnage Just like most TV shows in the 50s...

  • @candyapplecarnage It's called PLEASANTville for a reason...no, I'm sorry, that was racist. But you're right. Not one black person. :)

  • @LoveCowboyBoots It's like the sixties in Australia. Why before 1967 our indigenous were not even counted in the census, they were for all intents considered non persons.

  • @candyapplecarnage Nobody died. So no need. :D

  • @candyapplecarnage the whole point was that everyone was the same. as soon as there were 'colored' people, ppl didnt like it. in the movie, it was taken litterally. but in real life, we say colored people instead of black people. back then, they didnt like change. and black people were seen as different because of their skin. it wasnt wat they were used to. therefore, u can kinda link the colored people in the movie to black people, or people of any different race

  • @candyapplecarnage is that a good thing ??? i think yes

  • @candyapplecarnage that's a big part of the point of the movie.

  • thinking about this movie now, i noticed it has some wrong messages in it

  • I just saw this for the first time last night, it is now one of my favorite movies.

  • Damn, didn't know Spiderman liked Pleasentville.

  • Sooo much thought can go into this movie. One answer always comes out, great movie!!

  • I read this book in school.

  • I love when the dad gets home. "Honey I'm home? ...Where's my dinner?" mWhahahahaaaa

  • i dont get it, does at the end the mother finds out that there from the real world and the father find out his wife's cheating on him with the soda shop owner and does the real world mother find out her daughter's missing?

  • I really liked the movie, but I also wonder if those meddling kids should have just stayed home!

  • lool

  • I'd though It's average movie until I saw it and found out something else ! "Fire! Fire! Fire! - Cat?"

  • this is not about roys shirt r georges dinner the question is about values

something now lost in america a disapointment indeed

  • wow some scenes are inappropriate lol well for that era i wish we still lived in that era there was so much more respect every young lady were so conservative id would love for those values and principles to come back

  • @marielacandie much more respect?? ya, there was so much more respect for blacks, women, and homosexuals. they were so open minded then!!! -.- respect can be looked at both ways. women being conservative can be looked as respecting themselves or not embrasing their beauty, therefore not respecting themselves. it depends how far you take it. but honestly, theres as much respect as there was then, depending on how u look at it.

  • @uwishuwereme123ish when you look at the televsion vary rarely would you see women in bikinis in commercial thats what im talking that kind of respect were women totally covered themselves im not sayiny they might not have flaws but still i wish i would have lived in that era

  • @marielacandie You have no idea how life really was back then besides what you see on tv. Most older folks say they wish they could go back to "simpler times", because most of them were only children at the time. They had nothing to worry about. However, as black woman, I could never go back to such a time. Life was fucked up if you weren't a straight white male. Life was much more conservative back then, but don't act like it was problem free. Women still had sex, modesty or not.

  • 90s trailers >>> 2000s trailers

  • @Madfoot713 BOOM BOOM *EXPLOSION* Giant Metal Robots Attack 3!!! NOW WITH MORE BOOOOM!!!

  • Before Tobey was Spider-Man.

  • does any one know the name of the book this is based on. i read a book like this but i cant remember the name

  • @mizuhokazami1 the giver

  • @roneddy thanks

  • @mizuhokazami1 no problem

  • The song from the Notebook trailer!!!!

  • Love this movie <3

  • i'm supposed to watch this in reading. why is this PG-13?

  • @pokefreak313 well, not to spoil anything, but it has language a sexual prefences

  • @RabbidTea well i think i already know that..........we had to skip some parts

  • @pokefreak313 well, what grade are you in, because if your in highschool about now one scene may be fine, but if your in anything lower on of the scenes they would've skipped

  • a world of reese witherspoons

this movie is my fucking nightmare

  • I was forced to watch this crap in lit. You guys are all fags!

  • @SnakeDoctorSilver and the winner for the most unintelligent statement goes to snake. dont be a jackass be grateful for learning

  • where is paul walker? isn't suppose to be in this movie?

  • Some people still live in black and white. I remember watching it with a friend of mine. When the mother masturbates in the tub, she hadn't a clue what on earth the woman was doing. :(

  • @michaelnorm by fiona apple? well thats because across the universe by fiona apple is a soundtrack from this movie..

  • this movie was really good!! i cant believe that its so underrated and unknown...

  • Lots of Parallels from the conservative/traditionlist 50's to the liberal/cival rights 60's.

  • They just dont make em like this anymore

  • @thedudude220 the women too. now they're fat and chubby with attitude. the cute and fit ones are all hoes going to nightclubs and fucking drunk only date fools with money. some so desperate enough for money end up in porno and bangbros. they dont cook, we gotta order in. fucken women....all sluts

  • @boomercoco1

That how it's always been. Welcome to The American Nightmare.

  • @thedudude220 You mean as they made 'em thirteen years ago?

  • i live in pleasantvile to no joke in iowa

  • @thebanger224 get the fuck out then bro

  • i live in pleasantville

  • saw it at school today really good movie

i would deffinately watch it again! :D

  • I think this movie shows the message better than "American Beauty"!

  • 1:02 paul walker

  • This was actually a really good movie, take it from me, a 15 year old in High School

I watched this in Language Arts class and I thought it would be really boring cus it was in black and white...But then afterwards, I found it to be really interesting and exciting... xD

  • looks beautiful

  • one of the best movies imo.. awesome movie.

  • weird

  • OH EM GEE! REESE WITHERSPOON!

  • IMO, jewish Hollywood made this movie to make fun of gentiles.

  • "We're safe for now, thank goodness we're in a bowling alley" XD

  • @I3liss Yeah, until the zombies find you.

    LOL XD

  • 2:00 Shawshank Redemption much?

  • only watched the trail because i sw it on FX tuesday..

  • You can rarely see the movie where every single character is likeable, even the "bad ones"....I've watched this like 6-7 times and I enjoyed it everytime....the whole point of the movie is perfect, that its not bad to be different and that we shoud try to avoid stereotypes....in amazing way they show us the change in people's minds..beautiful story, actors too, idea couldnt be better and of course 50s..how can u not love 50s?:) one of my favorite movies of all time definitely :) its a MUST :)

  • @tatjana1707 I really struggle to see why people seem to think that this is a good movie. The acting is seriously weak and the storyline full of holes. Not that it mattered seeing as the movie was clearly made to deliver messages. Although its got me stumped as to what the messages really were other than portraying unprotected teenage sex as a good thing. Plus people seem to think that its about racism. If that's what its meant to be about then its clear Gary Ross has no idea what racism is.

  • @JAKEISONFIREEE

I like it cause it has a different story, something unseen.....I dont see any hole in the storyline...what hole(s) do u see?I dont think its about racism,it's about ( I mean how i think it is ) being able to be yourself no matter what anyone else wants u to be,its about runnig from stereotypes and just trying to be different in a good way...its boring to be PERFECT or like anyone else...there's no beauty in it...but ok,u dont have to like pleasantville,i LOVEEEEEEE it :)

  • @JAKEISONFIREEE

oh and maybe people think its about racism cause u have some situations that will lead u to think that ( like when they wrote on the doors of some store : No entrance for people in color ( smth like that ) or when they forbid every color except gray, black and white )....and that's all...nothing more is about racism...i mean i didint see it that way, maybe some people see it differently

  • @JAKEISONFIREEE I think you're missing the point. It's not saying that unprotected sex is a good thing, but that exploring new things and experiences makes us more 3-dimensional, whether it be the hate displayed by that Committee guy or reading a novel for the first time ever. I don't think racism was the main message, but I do think it had some small nods to it. Also, I didn't see any plot holes, so do enlighten me on that one. :)

  • @HikariBun Enlighten you I will. Who were the basketball team playing against? Why did they have a jail cell? Not wanting to get too picky though. The bit that I don't get is why they should have changed. If they were all happy and enjoyed what they were doing which they clearly did then why mess with it? The town wasn't called Pleasantville for nothin.

  • @JAKEISONFIREEE At first Jennifer messed with it because she was wild and wanted to shake things up, but then she continued because she noticed her friends really liked the change. David never wanted to change things, but the people closest to him wanted the change so at the end he ended up supporting them. The young people accepted the change because as happy as they were before the changes they were even happier after, simple as that.

  • @andyrp988 Pretty clear things weren't better afterwards hence the short scene at the start of the film where the teachers are talking about AIDS, global warming and the poor state of the economy. Added to that is the bit at the end when his mum is super cut. Didn't turn out to well ey.

  • @JAKEISONFIREEE The cell appears because as the changes happens, things appropriate with those changes start to appear in the town (Kids start getting wild - A cell appears). As far as the Basketball team goes, I think that's a joke. In Sitcoms, we usually never get to see the town where the rival team comes from, so to the people of Pleasantville it doesn't even exist, they just appear at random.

  • Amazing Film, I don't intend to cause polemic but I believe Pleasantville succeeds where Blue Velvet (1986) fails. Blue Velvet distances itself with its satire of 1950s caricatures. Pleasantville uses these caricatures to explore themes of sociological change and at the end of the film these caricatures are not caricatures but human beings who have discovered their identity.

    Does anyone agree or disagree?

  • @AlexDeLargeisHere Oh wow. You remind me of my English teacher.

  • @Aussiegirl265 That's amusing because I'm 15.

  • @AlexDeLargeisHere holy shit, good analysis.

  • mistrzostwo

  • Fantastic movie. I loved the story and i LOVED the art direction!

  • This is a very VERY good movie. I urge you to watch this movie.

  • wow, watched this when i was little, nice memories..

  • A story about the loss of innocence...

  • One of the best movies I've ever seen, and I love they're song that they have, real rain, at 1:33. It's a shame not too many people have seen this, they're really missing out :)

  • why don't they remake this film with the same star Tobey and Reese!!

  • @6digit Why would they do a remake? It's just over ten years old... the movie was even filmed in HD!

  • next stop fallout 3 universe. lol.

  • !!! SPOILER !!!!! SPOILER !!!!! SPOILER !!!!!!!

@moogle301 : she was turning "colorful" but was ashamed and afraid to show it so she covered it up with white and black make-up :)

  • nah, they should've just adopted Plato's Republic scheme

  • The courtroom scene toward the end of the movie was taken right out of To Kill A Mockingbird.

  • toon terrortory

  • 1:49 cover what up?

  • great film! it's very funny, when the people get colored^^

  • such a thought provoking amazing movie, great meaning and depth behind it, brilliant movie :)

  • colored people

  • funni movie love it to death

  • One of my all time favorite movies.

  • sorry i'm going to be 'that guy' this movie shows a victory of liberalism over conservatism (and the mayor glenn beck) don't let the tea party take us back to un-pleaseantville

  • @oddjob29 typical emotional response. anything racist or bad is automatically associated with only conservatism. if i had to interpret it politically i'd say its mor like a victory of libertarianism over a polarizing pseudo 2 party system. challenge ur beliefs n think outside the box cuz the liberals n conservatives r pretty much the same. neither side is lookin out for our best interest

  • @mikee1911 you're right this movie is very underrated

  • everybody on the planet should sit down on the longest coach ever created in the longest living room ever created, and just watch this movie. world peace would be guarenteed

  • what a beautiful movie. this is one of my all-time favorites. so much emotion went into making this and i think it deserved more recognition for the brilliance of the meanings behind the surface of this movie. destined to be a classic, this is truly touching.

  • This reminds me of how Charlotte, NC is! LOL. The only difference is that there is no real life Reese Witherspoon that wants the change, and I see a lot more pronounced looks like William H. Macy get's when he's not to thrilled about things.

  • underrated movie...

  • awsome music

  • 2:00 shawshank redemption... omigod, i can't believe i never realized that before lol

  • and the great voice over of Hal Douglas

  • Great Film ,but not a good Ending.

  • @JackLivesTogether Yeah, no kidding! Good thing I already watched it.

  • This is a very good movie. Kind of reminds me of Islamic Republic of Iran (Dictatorship) . They stop you from joy and happiness therefore they take away your colour! Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @DrAvesta Yeah, it just reminds me obviously of Adam and Eve! [The rose and the apple!] and theres references to nazi's/jews when they ruin the shop.. and of course racism with the 'coloured people'.

  • Bowling allies are the safe places? Wish I knew that sooner. ;-)

  • Watched this today and loved it!!

  • it looks really good! it seems a lot like the novel "The Giver"

  • @ReklawRemix I agree

  • Listen to this, Honey I`m Home....

  • Davvero un gran bel film

  • Wow beautiful twist from the usual

    Boring western conception of

    "entertainment" worthy material

  • Anyone know what song is playing towards the end of the trailer? Starting around 1:40?

  • @aaavelar "Mural" from the Pleasantville Official Soundtrack

  • @hpathbp25

I've been wondering what that song is, since it turns up everywhere. It's almost as ubiquitous as the themes from Requiem for a Dream and Far and Away.

  • very very good movie

  • Most underrated movie of the 90's.

  • @AshCosgrove

    Boring

  • @AshCosgrove

    For reals huh?

  • @AshCosgrove woow only 55 agreed, but earth is contained with 6,6 billion ppl . 6 600 000 000 -55 hmmm i think more ppl hate it. ok it was just a joke

  • This movie rapresents USA before and after The Beatles came in 1964

  • yea fuckin bitch ruined a perfect world

  • @terrorsquadlith

it wasnt perfect to begin with. it was just happy. the perfect world is the world where good and evil can exist. in essence, they made it perfect.

    go read Beowulf or 1984.
