  • how come CD doesn't make a new Lok game?!.. like if there's fans who will spend 10 months of there lives to make a game for other fans to love and enjoy.. i think CD or whatever owes "Vincent Chevalier" a new Lok game imo.. even if he wasn't aiming for CD to owe him a new Lok game.

    I never played an Amiga game, so I not sure if that's a compliment or not. :P I like to think that the game is placed somewhere between a SuperNES game and a PS1 game. Some effects are a little too sophisticated for SuperNES but it's not up to the PS1 level.

    Anyway,the Commodore Amiga is kind of an enhanced Megadrive.In fact they share the same Cisc 16 bits Cpu (Motorola 68000),but the Amiga features the Ham mode (4096 colours at the same time,though some limitation on specific screen lines) and its audio is definitely far better than the Sega machine (more channels and higher sample frequency). ;-)

    Well, I'm not sure what I would gain from doing a Castlevania fan game. It would pretty much look like, Lok: Revival for the gameplay part. It wouldn't be much of a challenge, so not very interesting for me I think. Besides, there is already a ton of Castlevania games. :)

  • Lol this doesnt just look like castlevania, it pretty much IS castlevania. Castlevania Symphony of the Night to be exact. It looks as if the game was used as a template, then adding Kain and the other various characters. Hell even some of the enemies seem to be pulled right from CSOTN as well! lol

    Hi! It isn't castlevania SOTN, I ripped stuff from many games: many Castlevanias, Demon's Crest, X-Men Mutant apocalypse, etc. I'm not an artist, I can't draw my own sprites. So I ripped stuff from all these games and recolored sprites and backgrounds more or less to them them fit together. I never hid the fact that this game is a metroidvania, I advertise it as such. :)

  • I can't beat the Elder God. By the time I get to his shield, I'm practically dead. I really want to see the ending but I dont think I can do it and not get beyond frustrated. Damn shame. I assume he is the same for any of the endings as well.

  • The game is difficult as hell. I can't conceive how to get to water shield. I know I must place the box on the button to switch off the windpipe but who knows how?

  • Wow this looks very exciting. I would love to see a full quality current-gen 3D LOK sequel, (like the Dark Prophecy), but hats off to Vincent Chevalier! He's doing his part to keep the franchise alive.

  • Well, as promised, I released the Beta version for december 23rd. (In fact I released it a couple of hours early on the 22nd.)

    For those interested in playing the game, I finished developping it a couple of days ago. I didn't upload it yet, because I want to play it a couple of times to solve balancing issues (too hard or too easy at some points). I will upload the game on december 23rd. So you get it for the holidays and I still have a couple of days to polish it.

    Well, not exactly "all" from Catlevania. I used stuff from Demon's Crest that I ripped myself and stuff from X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse. I also used spell effects from many other games, didn't take note of all of them though.

  • For a fan game it looks alright, since this is the beta I am sure he'll improve based on feedback he getsm many obvious points he can improve upon but one that keeps bugging me: Since Defiance Kain keeps his sword kept away in his back, not up front asif he were jerking off, but I guess the developer want to input elements from Blood Omen (Which remains the best in the series so far in my opinion)

  • Most of the sprites and backgrounds are from castlevanias, but I modified some of them to suit my needs. There is also stuff from Demon's Crest (a snes game if you don't know about it). Some special effects and spells are from some other games. And of course, some stuff is entirely original: some sprites are from Raina, some backgrounds are from me, etc.

  • @vkellendil OH, well What I said was more of an observation rather that a criticiscim, of course it will take forever to make the game with only a handful of people (If it's okay to ask, how many are working on this project?). Either way if I could give a suggestion/advice: try to make it as gory and bloddy and dark as posible, as I said BO (in my opinion remains the best to date), a game that should have past off as a zelda rip off, but it was spared that for a few reasons:

  • @vkellendil 1) The core of the LoK series: The story and voice acting

    2)This is something that was toned down in the following installments: The atmosfere, instead of a zelda rip off it came off as the anti-zelda, it was even more extreme than in Doom 3 (and it was), the overhead view made you appreciate it more, Now the CV series tries to input this but they just can't get it, I think it would work great for your project if you could find room for the morbid, dark deprave atmosfere

  • @vkellendil That the other games lost and most series don't even put it, it might help you draw attention away from the fact that your using CV and other games sprites and backrounds, which I am sure I am not the only one who noticed. Either way this is just me talking, you'll know what's best for the game

    I'm the only developper on this project. Except for Raina's sprites and music, it's a one man show.

    The game is more set on the tone of Defiance: it is a direct sequel. So it's not as dark as Bo1.

    It's meant to look like a Castlevania, it is a Metroidvania. Besides, I can't draw. So I just ripped stuff from many CV, Demon's Crest, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse, recolored to make everything fit and that's it.

    No voice acting in this game. Better no voices than cheap immitation.

  • @vkellendil That's too bad, guess us the audience we'll have to settle. Metroidvania was a good directin however, Konami perfected it...and overkilled it. I played the alpha and I am already lost jajaj, I can't get to the block that I use to reach the switch to exit the library, hey is it normal that the alpha version has no sound? Speaking of whch yes you're right, Prodigal Sons (Anothe fan game) tried using voice replacements and didn;t sound good

    Yup, it's normal the alpha version has no sound: I added it after. The alpha version was more a proof of concept than anything, sound wasn't an issue back then.

    To get the block on the ground and push it toward the lever, go into the TK room, jump and use TK to push the block off. If, for some reason, the block is stuck somewhere and you're unable to put it back in place, break it (with reaver) and it will respawn at the original place.

  • @Raziel236 - fraps slowed down the game too much to get more decent combat. Well it is action oriented, so you just need to wait for the game.
