i think that doing a cover of a song is fine.. for example the point of metallica doing garage inc is for them to go back to the garage days when they were starting out. if fans of metallica dont like the song they like it now because metallica did it... or it could introduce you to new bands.. i didnt know much about Motorhead until i heard metallica played it, then i looked em up, and now i like em. but when rappers do covers they steal the beat just so they can have something to rap over.
