  • Excelent playing professotV and I like no vibrato and gut strings very much. Its sounds more mistical this way. By the way, can you tell us which peaces was Bach influenced by when he wrote his partitas and sonatas for solo violin?

  • Arguably... The most beautiful music ever performed...

  • Ahhh..very beautiful!!

  • Mysterious.. is one word of describing this piece and its performance!

  • I'm working on this piece right now, much more satisfying to be able to play it, thanks for sharing.

  • Good luck with the Biber, Bshow1212!

  • This is a good example of woody tone. What I call a woody tone anyway. It`s amazingly beautiful. Fritz Kreisler would have been proud of you.

  • This is my favorite performance of this song. You made this song more enjoyable for me. Thank you.

  • Hi Ramboozler. Thanks, I appreciate that very much! Check out Andrew Manze and Reinhard Goebel playing it. They are fantastic.

  • Biber > Bieber

  • What a truly lovely piece. I appreciate your sharing your research in regards to the Baroque. During our last rehearsal, our orchestra conductor had us play without vibrato for our Baroque piece. That simple change has created a totally different sound, which I am sure is true for this piece.

  • Wow. Love those first four notes! I could listen to just that over and over again (without the variations). They're just so beautiful in a rich, mournful way. Love the harmonics in them and the way they taper off.

The whole song is, great, though. I love how the rest of it pulls you back to those same four notes, too.

  • Ah, thank you so much, Sarah. Very kind comments!

  • This is amazing.

  • Fantastic playing Todd, I love it! Your tone is so warm and your interpretation is vast. Your use of different articulations is immense. I will be listening to your recording over and over. Thank you for sharing! I look forward to more. Brad

  • Thank you, Brad! what a kind comment... I wish I could have played it for you in person, like the old days.

  • Bravo professorv! I loved this so much, it warmed my heart.

  • Thank you, fiddlejamie!

  • Todd you are awesome, I wish I could play as epic as you. Wonderful piece, excellent played.

  • I'd have preferred you played in front a camera and shown us this beautiful music being played.!!

    Maybe next video?

  • YUCK!!! Sheep Intestine?

    Great playing though!! :D

  • Great sound with those strings and wonderfull performance ProfessorV. Thanks a lot, I love it !

  • I'm so sorry. My question below blurs.

I asked from whom is the pictures of apresentation of the piece.

    Paulo

  • Congratulations for perfomance!

    I'd like to know frohanks.

    Paulo

  • Fantastic! It sounded like you were in some medieval gigantic stone cathedral!

    Parabens

  • Nice sound I love the baroque period.

  • ALOHA! Where was this recorded? Not only is your perfomance gorgeous, so are the acoustics!

    Miss T,

  • Thanks, violaduck, I just recorded it at my house, so the acoustics are all electronic. I'd prefer a stone church but don't have access to that!

For those interested, I used a Rode NT1A mic, a Focusrite ISA One preamp, Lexicon Reverb unit and a Sony DAT recorder.

  • wow... like always good stuff!

  • nice, I´m trying to learn how to play violin... =S

  • Thank you professorV. It´s a monumental piece!! Biber seldom performed publicly. BTW, is this procedure called Scordatura? Congrats!!

  • Amazing as always ! Why can't we see you Todd ? :-)

  • That's something like a baroque-pop song. From the1600s.

  • This is the first time I've heard gut strings o.o And I must say, it's really quite suitable for this melody, I can't imagine it being played any better than with these xD

  • Sounds very unusual, but very special. :)

  • I love this song and a beautiful performance, great, the baroque violin is marvelous, nice melody.

  • Dear Professor, I'd say it's introspective ♥ ... and your preferred embellishments remind me of the Highlands ♥ ... please allow me to share this one. Thank you !!! :-)

  • Wow, amazing. Would love to see you play this :)

  • The tuning is half step below?, or you have another score?

thanks for upload it and interpret i

  • Hi ineymatov, Thanks, yes It's tuned to A=415, or about 1/2 step below moder pitch. You'll hear this frequently with early music performances on gut strings.

  • You are indeed amazing Mr. Ehle!

  • You've taught me to love this beautiful melody.

    Thanks a lot for that!

  • Hi Linuxica!

  • Well done, Todd! I enjoyed that very much. I like the sound quality of the strings. Best regards. Dave
